LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Cercate scampo, o figli di Beniamino, fuori di Gerusalemme; in Tekòa suonate la tromba e su Bet-Chèrem alzate il segnale, perché è imminente dal nord sventura e disastro grande.	1 Flee, sons of Benjamin, out of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa, raise a signal over Beth-haccherem; For evil threatens from the north, and mighty destruction.
2 Io voglio distruggere il paese e la delizia della figlia di Sion.	2 O lovely and delicate daughter Zion, you are ruined!
3 In essa entreranno pastori e le loro greggi; pianteranno contro di lei le tende all'intorno, pasceranno ciascuno la parte sua.	3 Against her, shepherds come with their flocks; all around, they pitch their tents, each one grazes his portion.
4 Proclamate contro di essa la guerra santa. Orsù, assaltiamola a mezzogiorno! Infelici noi! Declina il giorno; si allungano le ombre della sera!	4 "Prepare for war against her, Up! let us rush upon her at midday! Alas! the day is waning, evening shadows lengthen;
5 Orsù, assaltiamola di notte e distruggiamo i suoi palazzi!	5 Up! let us rush upon her by night, destroy her palaces!"
6 Così, infatti, dice il Signore degli eserciti: "Tagliate i suoi alberi e stendete contro Gerusalemme un terrapieno. Essa è la città punita, tutta intera è oppressione nel suo interno!	6 For thus says the LORD of hosts: Hew down her trees, throw up a siege mound against Jerusalem. Woe to the city marked for punishment; nought but oppression within her!
7 Come fa scaturire un pozzo le sue acque, così essa fa scaturire la sua malvagità: violenza e devastazione si ode in essa; davanti a me sta costantemente dolore e percossa.	7 As the well gushes out its waters, so she gushes out her wickedness. Violence and destruction resound in her; ever before me are wounds and blows.
8 Làsciati correggere, o Gerusalemme, altrimenti s'allontana da te l'anima mia, altrimenti ti ridurrò a una desolazione, a un paese non abitato".	8 Be warned, O Jerusalem, lest I be estranged from you; Lest I turn you into a desert, a land where no man dwells.
9 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: "Racimolate accuratamente come nella vigna il resto di Israele; ripassa la tua mano come il vendemmiatore sopra i tralci".	9 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Glean, glean like a vine the remnant of Israel; Pass your hand, like a vintager, repeatedly over the tendrils.
10 A chi parlerò e chi scongiurerò perché ascolti? Ecco: incirconciso è il loro orecchio e non possono dare ascolto; ecco: la parola del Signore è divenuta per essi vituperio e non si compiacciono in essa.	10 To whom shall I speak? whom shall I warn, and be heard? See! their ears are uncircumcised, they cannot give heed; See, the word of the LORD has become for them an object of scorn, which they will not have.
11 E io sono pieno dello sdegno del Signore, mi sono stancato nel trattenerlo. "Riversalo sul lattante nella strada e sui giovani riuniti insieme, perché sia l'uomo che la donna saran catturati, sia il vecchio che l'uomo pieno di giorni.	11 Therefore my wrath brims up within me, I am weary of holding it in; I will pour it out upon the child in the street, upon the young men gathered together. Yes, all will be taken, husband and wife, graybeard with ancient.
12 Ad altri passeranno le loro case, i campi e le donne insieme, poiché io stenderò la mia mano sugli abitanti del paese". Oracolo del Signore.	12 Their houses will fall to strangers, their fields and their wives as well; For I will stretch forth my hand against those who dwell in this land, says the LORD.
13 Sì, dal più piccolo al più grande, ognuno di essi si applica all'avarizia; dal profeta al sacerdote, ognuno di essi agisce falsamente.	13 Small and great alike, all are greedy for gain; prophet and priest, all practice fraud.
14 Essi curano la ferita del mio popolo alla leggera. Dicono: "Salute! Salute!", ma non c'è salute!	14 They would repair, as though it were nought, the injury to my people: "Peace, peace!" they say, though there is no peace.
15 Arrossiscano perché compiono abominazioni! Di nessuna onta arrossiscono più, né sanno più vergognarsi! "Per questo cadranno tra quelli che cadono: nel tempo che saran visitati saranno prostrati", dice il Signore!	15 They are odious; they have done abominable things, yet they are not at all ashamed, they know not how to blush. Hence they shall be among those who fall; in their time of punishment they shall go down, says the LORD.
16 Così dice il Signore: "Arrestatevi sulle vie e osservate e informatevi dei sentieri antichi; camminate per quella che è la via migliore e troverete riposo per voi stessi". Ma risposero: "Non vogliamo camminarvi!".	16 Thus says the LORD: Stand beside the earliest roads, ask the pathways of old Which is the way to good, and walk it; thus you will find rest for your souls. But they said, "We will not walk it."
17 "Ho posto su di voi delle sentinelle: badate allo squillo della tromba!". Ma risposero: "Non vi badiamo!".	17 When I raised up watchmen for them: "Hearken to the sound of the trumpet!" they said, "We will not hearken."
18 "Perciò ascoltate, o nazioni, e sappi, o assemblea, quello che farò contro di loro.	18 Therefore hear, O nations, and know, O earth, what I will do with them:
19 Ascolta, o paese! Ecco: io farò venire la sventura su questo popolo qual frutto dei loro pensieri, perché non badarono alle mie parole né alla mia legge e prevaricarono contro di essa.	19 See, I bring evil upon this people, the fruit of their own schemes, Because they heeded not my words, because they despised my law.
20 Cosa m'importa che venga incenso da Saba e cannella ottima da paese lontano? I vostri olocausti non sono di mio gradimento e i vostri sacrifici non mi piacciono".	20 Of what use to me incense that comes from Sheba, or sweet cane from far-off lands? Your holocausts find no favor with me, your sacrifices please me not.
21 Per questo così dice il Signore: "Ecco: io tenderò contro questo popolo dei lacci e inciamperanno contro di essi, padri e figli insieme, l'amico e il suo vicino insieme".	21 Therefore, thus says the LORD: See, I will place before this people obstacles to bring them down; Fathers and sons alike, neighbors and friends shall perish.
22 Così dice il Signore: "Ecco: un popolo viene dal paese del nord e una nazione grande si muove dall'estremità della terra.	22 Thus says the LORD: See, a people comes from the land of the north, a great nation, roused from the ends of the earth.
23 Impugnano saldamente arco e lancia, sono crudeli e non hanno compassione; il loro grido è come mare che si agita e galoppano sopra cavalli. Sono pronti come un guerriero contro di te, figlia di Sion".	23 Bow and javelin they wield; cruel and pitiless are they. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride forth on steeds, Each in his place, for battle against you, daughter Zion.
24 "Abbiamo inteso la sua fama, sono cadute le nostre mani; l'angustia ci ha afferrati, come lo spasimo di una partoriente".	24 We hear the report of them; helpless fall our hands, Anguish takes hold of us, throes like a mother's in childbirth.
25 Non uscire al campo, non camminare per via, perché la spada del nemico è spavento all'intorno.	25 Go not forth into the field, step not into the street, Beware of the enemy's sword; terror on every side!
26 Figlia del popolo mio, cingiti di sacco, ravvolgiti nella polvere; fa' lutto come per un figlio unico, pianto amarissimo, perché all'improvviso verrà il distruttore contro di noi!	26 O daughter of my people, gird on sackcloth, roll in the ashes. Mourn as for an only child with bitter wailing, For sudden upon us comes the destroyer.
27 Qual esperto ti posi tra il mio popolo, quale fortezza, perché conoscessi ed esaminassi la loro condotta.	27 A tester among my people I have appointed you, to search and test their way.
28 Tutti sono ribelli, vanno sparlando; rame e ferro, tutti sono corruttori.	28 Arch-rebels are they all, dealers in slander, all of them corrupt.
29 Il mantice sbuffa perché sia liquefatto il piombo; invano fonde il fonditore mentre le scorie non si staccano.	29 The bellows roars, the lead is consumed by the fire; In vain has the smelter refined, the wicked are not drawn off.
30 "Argento di rifiuto" chiamateli, perché il Signore li ha rifiutati.	30 "Silver rejected" they shall be called, for the LORD has rejected them.
