1 Partirono da Elim e tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele arrivò nel deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e il Sinai, il quindicesimo giorno del secondo mese da quando erano usciti dal paese d'Egitto.	1 And they set out from Elim. And the entire multitude of the sons of Israel arrived at the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, after they departed from the land of Egypt.
2 Tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele mormorò contro Mosè ed Aronne nel deserto.	2 And the entire congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3 I figli d'Israele dissero loro: "Perché non siamo morti per mano del Signore nel paese d'Egitto, quando stavamo presso la pentola di carne e mangiavamo a sazietà? Perché ci avete fatto uscire in questo deserto per far morire di fame tutta questa moltitudine?".	3 And the sons of Israel said to them: “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat around bowls of meat and ate bread until filled. Why have you led us away, into this desert, so that you might kill the entire multitude with famine?”
4 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Ecco, faccio piovere su di voi dal cielo del pane: il popolo uscirà e raccoglierà ogni giorno la razione del giorno. Voglio infatti provarlo, se cammina o no nella mia legge.	4 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Let the people go out and collect what is sufficient for each day, so that I may test them, as to whether or not they will walk in my law.
5 E il sesto giorno, quando prepareranno quello che avranno portato, ci sarà il doppio di quanto avevano raccolto giorno per giorno".	5 But on the sixth day, let them prepare what they use for carrying, and let there be double what they were accustomed to collect on a single day.”
6 Mosè ed Aronne dissero a tutti i figli d'Israele: "Alla sera saprete che è il Signore che vi ha fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto,	6 And Moses and Aaron said to the sons of Israel: “In the evening, you will know that the Lord has led you away from the land of Egypt.
7 e al mattino vedrete la gloria del Signore, poiché ha sentito le vostre mormorazioni contro di lui: noi che cosa siamo perché mormoriate contro di noi?".	7 And in the morning, you will see the glory of the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring against the Lord. But as for us, truly what are we, that you would whisper against us?”
8 Mosè disse: "Il Signore vi darà alla sera carne da mangiare e al mattino pane a sazietà, poiché il Signore ha ascoltato le vostre mormorazioni contro di lui. Noi infatti che cosa siamo? Non contro di noi sono le vostre mormorazioni, ma contro il Signore".	8 And Moses said: “In the evening, the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning, bread in fullness. For he has heard your murmurings that you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.”
9 Mosè disse ad Aronne: "Di' a tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele: "Avvicinatevi davanti al Signore, poiché ha udito le vostre mormorazioni".	9 Moses also said to Aaron: “Say to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Approach before the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring.’ ”
10 E mentre Aronne parlava a tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele, si voltarono verso il deserto, ed ecco che la gloria del Signore apparve nella nube.	10 And when Aaron spoke to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. And behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.
11 Il Signore disse a Mosè:	11 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
12 "Ho udito le mormorazioni dei figli d'Israele. Parla loro così: "Tra le due sere mangerete carne e al mattino vi sazierete di pane; saprete che io sono il Signore, vostro Dio".	12 “I have heard the murmuring of the sons of Israel. Say to them: ‘In the evening, you will eat flesh, and in the morning, you will be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”
13 Alla sera salirono le quaglie e coprirono l'accampamento e al mattino ci fu uno strato di rugiada intorno all'accampamento.	13 Therefore, it happened in the evening: quails, rising up, covered the camp. Likewise, in the morning, a dew lay all around the camp.
14 Lo strato di rugiada se ne andò, ed ecco sulla superficie del deserto qualcosa di fine, granuloso, minuto come la brina sulla terra.	14 And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared, in the wilderness, small and as if crushed with a pestle, similar to hoar-frost on the ground.
15 I figli d'Israele videro e si dissero l'un l'altro: "Cos'è quello?", perché non sapevano che cosa era. Mosè disse loro: "Quello è il pane che il Signore vi ha dato da mangiare.	15 When the sons of Israel had seen it, they said one to another: “Manhu?” which means “What is this?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
16 Ecco quello che il Signore vi ordina: "Raccoglietene ognuno per quanto ne mangia, un omer a testa, prendetene secondo il numero di quanti siete, ognuno nella propria tenda".	16 This is the word that the Lord has instructed. Let each one collect as much of it as is sufficient to eat. One omer for each head. According to the number of your souls which live in a tent, so will you take of it.”
17 I figli d'Israele fecero così, e raccolsero chi molto, chi poco.	17 And the sons of Israel did so. And they collected: some more, others less.
18 Misuravano a omer, e non ne aveva troppo chi aveva raccolto molto e non ne mancava a chi aveva raccolto poco: ognuno aveva raccolto secondo quanto mangiava.	18 And they measured by the measure of an omer. He who collected more, did not have too much; nor did he who prepared less, find too little. But each one gathered according to what they were able to eat.
19 Mosè disse loro: "Nessuno ne avanzi per domani".	19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it behind until morning.”
20 Essi non ascoltarono Mosè e alcuni ne presero di più per l'indomani: sorsero dei vermi e si corruppe. Mosè si adirò contro di loro.	20 And they did not listen to him, but they left some of it behind until morning, and it began to swarm with worms, and it putrefied. And Moses became angry against them.
21 Ne raccoglievano ogni mattina, ognuno secondo quanto ne mangiava: quando il sole scaldava, si scioglieva.	21 Then each one collected, in the morning, as much as would be sufficient to eat. And after the sun became hot, it melted.
22 Il sesto giorno raccolsero il doppio di quel pane, due omer ognuno, e tutti i capi della comunità lo dissero a Mosè.	22 But on the sixth day, they collected a double portion, that is, two omers for each man. Then all the leaders among the multitude came, and they discoursed with Moses.
23 Egli disse loro: "E' quello che ha detto il Signore: domani è giorno di riposo, un sabato santo per il Signore: quello che dovete cuocere, cuocetelo, e quello che dovete bollire, bollitelo, e quello che resta in più riponetelo, per conservarlo fino a domani".	23 And he said to them: “This is what the Lord has spoken: Tomorrow, the rest day of the Sabbath, has been sanctified to the Lord. Whatever would be done, do it now. And whatever would be cooked, cook it now. Then anything that will have been left over, store it until morning.”
24 Lo riposero fino all'indomani, come aveva ordinato Mosè, e non si corruppe e non ci furono vermi.	24 And they did just as Moses had instructed, and it did not putrefy, nor were there any worms found in it.
25 Mosè disse: "Mangiatelo oggi, perché oggi è sabato per il Signore: oggi non ne troverete all'aperto.	25 And Moses said: “Eat it today, because it is the Sabbath of the Lord. Today it will not be found in the field.
26 Per sei giorni ne raccoglierete, nel settimo giorno, sabato, non ce ne sarà".	26 Gather for six days. But on the seventh day, it is the Sabbath of the Lord, for which reason it will not be found.”
27 Alcuni del popolo uscirono il settimo giorno per raccogliere, ma non ne trovarono.	27 And the seventh day arrived. And some of the people, going out to collect it, did not find it.
28 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Fino a quando rifiuterete di osservare i miei precetti e le mie leggi?	28 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will you be unwilling to keep my commandments and my law?
29 Vedete: il Signore vi ha dato il sabato, perciò vi dà al sesto giorno il pane per due giorni. Ognuno dimori a casa sua e nessuno esca dal suo luogo al settimo giorno".	29 See how the Lord has given you the Sabbath, and, because of this, on the sixth day he distributes to you a double portion. Let each one remain with his own, and let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day.”
30 Il popolo riposò nel settimo giorno.	30 And the people kept the Sabbath on the seventh day.
31 La casa d'Israele lo chiamò manna: era come seme di coriandolo, bianco, con il gusto di focaccia di miele.	31 And the house of Israel called its name ‘Manna.’ It was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wheat flour with honey.
32 Mosè disse: "Ecco quello che ha ordinato il Signore: "Riempitene un omer da conservare per le vostre generazioni, perché vedano il pane che vi ho fatto mangiare nel deserto, quando vi ho fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto".	32 Then Moses said: “This is the word that the Lord has instructed: Fill an omer of it, and let it be kept for future generations hereafter, so that they may know the bread, with which I nourished you in the wilderness, when you had been led away from the land of Egypt.”
33 Mosè disse ad Aronne: "Prendi un vaso, riempilo di un omer di manna e riponilo davanti al Signore, per conservarlo per le vostre generazioni".	33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take one vessel, and put manna into it, as much as an omer is able to hold. And store it in the sight of the Lord, to keep for your generations,
34 Come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè, Aronne lo pose davanti alla "testimonianza" per la conservazione.	34 just as the Lord instructed Moses.” And so, Aaron placed it in the tabernacle, in reserve.
35 I figli d'Israele mangiarono la manna quarant'anni, fino a quando giunsero alla terra abitata: mangiarono la manna fino a quando giunsero al confine della terra di Canaan.	35 Now the sons of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they arrived in a habitable land. With this food they were nourished, even until they touched the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 L'omer è un decimo dell'efa.	36 Now an omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
