1 Amazia divenne re a venticinque anni e regnò ventinove anni in Gerusalemme. Il nome di sua madre era Ioaddan, da Gerusalemme.	1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jehoaddan, from Jerusalem.
2 Fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore, ma non con cuore perfetto.	2 And he accomplished good in the sight of the Lord. Yet truly, not with a perfect heart.
3 Quando il regno fu rinsaldato nelle sue mani, egli uccise gli ufficiali che avevano assassinato il re, suo padre,	3 And when he saw himself to be strengthened in his rule, he cut the throats of the servants who had killed his father, the king.
4 ma non mise a morte i loro figli, perché sta scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè il comando del Signore: "I padri non moriranno per colpa dei figli e i figli non moriranno per colpa dei padri, ma ognuno morirà per il suo peccato".	4 But he did not put to death their sons, just as it was written in the book of the law of Moses, where the Lord instructed, saying: “The fathers shall not be slain because of the sons, nor the sons because of their fathers. Instead, each one shall die for his own sin.”
5 Amazia riunì il popolo di Giuda e lo distribuì secondo i casati, ponendo tutto Giuda e Beniamino sotto capi di migliaia e capi di centinaia. Poi fece un censimento di quanti avevano vent'anni e più. Trovò che c'erano trecentomila uomini scelti, atti alla guerra, che maneggiavano la lancia e lo scudo.	5 And then Amaziah gathered together Judah, and he organized them by families, and tribunes, and centurions, throughout all of Judah and Benjamin. And he numbered them from twenty years old and upward. And he found three hundred thousand young men, who could go forth to battle, and who could hold spear and shield.

For the Lord is not with Israel, nor with all the sons of Ephraim.
8 Se egli viene, non ti gioverà essere forte in battaglia! Dio ti farà stramazzare davanti al nemico, perché Dio ha il potere di aiutare e di abbattere".	8 But if you think that a war stands by the strength of the army, God will cause you to be overwhelmed by the enemies. For indeed, it belongs to God to assist, and to put to flight.”
9 Amazia rispose all'uomo di Dio: "Che ne sarà dei cento talenti che ho dato per l'esercito d'Israele?". L'uomo di Dio replicò: "Il Signore può darti molto di più di questo".	9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, “Then what will become of the one hundred talents, which I gave to the soldiers of Israel?” And the man of God responded to him, “The Lord has that from which he is able to give much more than this to you.”
10 Allora Amazia congedò l'esercito che si era unito a lui da Efraim perché se ne ritornasse a casa sua. Ma l'ira di costoro si accese vivamente contro Giuda e se ne ritornarono a casa propria pieni di sdegno.	10 And so, Amaziah separated the army, which had come to him from Ephraim, so that they would return to their place. But having become very angry against Judah, they returned to their own region.
11 Fattosi animo, Amazia si mise a capo del suo esercito conducendolo nella valle del Sale, dove sconfisse i figli di Seir in numero di diecimila.	11 Then Amaziah confidently led forth his people. And he went away to the Valley of the Salt Pits, and he struck down ten thousand of the sons of Seir.
12 Quelli di Giuda ne fecero prigionieri diecimila vivi e, condottili sulla cima d'una roccia, li precipitarono giù: tutti si sfracellarono.	12 And the sons of Judah captured another ten thousand of the men. And they led them to the precipice of a certain rock. And they threw them from the summit, and they were all broken apart.
13 Quanto agli uomini della schiera che Amazia aveva rimandato perché non partecipassero con lui alla battaglia, essi fecero incursioni nelle città di Giuda, da Samaria fino a Bet-Oròn, uccidendovi tremila persone e facendo un ricco bottino.	13 But the army that Amaziah had sent away, so that they would not go with him into battle, spread out among the cities of Judah, from Samaria as far as Beth-horon. And having killed three thousand, they took away much plunder.
14 Dopo che Amazia ritornò dalla strage compiuta sugli Edomiti, fece portare gli dèi dei figli di Seir e se li costituì come dèi, prostrandosi davanti a loro e offrendo loro incenso.	14 Truly, after the slaughter of the Edomites, and when the gods of the sons of Seir were brought, Amaziah chose them as gods for himself. And he was adoring them, and burning incense to them.
15 Ma l'ira del Signore si accese contro Amazia e gli mandò un profeta per dirgli: "Perché ti sei rivolto agli dèi, che non sono stati capaci di liberare il loro popolo dalla tua mano?".	15 For this reason, the Lord became angry against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who would say to him, “Why have you adored gods who did not free their own people from your hand?”
16 Mentre stava ancora parlando, il re lo interruppe: "Forse ti abbiamo costituito consigliere del re? Smettila! Perché ti si dovrebbe uccidere!". Il profeta smise, ma poi disse: "So che Dio ha deciso di distruggerti, perché hai fatto questo e non hai prestato ascolto al mio consiglio".	16 And after he spoke these things, he responded to him: “Are you the counselor of the king? Be quiet! Otherwise I will put you to death.” And departing, the prophet said, “I know that God has decided to kill you, because you have done this evil, and also because you have not agreed to my counsel.”
17 Preso consiglio, Amazia, re di Giuda, mandò a dire a Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, figlio di Ieu, re d'Israele: "Orsù, affrontiamoci!".	17 And so Amaziah, the king of Judah, undertaking a very wicked counsel, sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying: “Come, let us see one another.”
18 Ma Ioas, re d'Israele, inviò questa risposta ad Amazia, re di Giuda: "Il cardo del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: Da' la tua figlia in moglie a mio figlio. Ma una bestia selvatica del Libano, passando, calpestò il cardo.	18 But he sent back messengers, saying: “The thistle which is in Lebanon sent to the cedar of Lebanon, saying: ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife.’ And behold, the beasts that were in the forest of Lebanon passed through, and they trampled the thistle.
19 Tu ti sei detto: "Ecco, ho sconfitto Edom", e il tuo cuore ti spinge ad inorgoglirti. Ora stattene a casa tua. Perché vorresti provocare una sciagura e cadere tu e Giuda con te?".	19 You said, ‘I struck down Edom.’ And for this reason, your heart is lifted up with pride. Settle in your own house. Why do you provoke evil against yourself, so that you may fall, and then Judah with you?”
20 Ma Amazia non prestò ascolto; del resto era volontà di Dio che fossero consegnati nelle mani del nemico, perché si erano rivolti agli dèi di Edom.	20 Amaziah was not willing to listen to him, because it was the will of the Lord that he be delivered into the hands of the enemies, because of the gods of Edom.
21 Ioas, re d'Israele, si mise in marcia e ambedue, lui e Amazia, re di Giuda, si scontrarono a faccia a faccia a Bet-Semes, che appartiene a Giuda.	21 And so Joash, the king of Israel, ascended, and they presented themselves within the sight of one another. Now Amaziah, the king of Judah, was in Beth-shemesh of Judah.
22 Giuda fu sconfitto davanti a Israele e ognuno fuggì nella sua tenda.	22 And Judah fell before Israel. And each one fled to his own tent.
23 Ioas, re d'Israele, fece prigioniero a Bet-Semes Amazia, re di Giuda, figlio di Ioas, figlio di Acazia. Condottolo a Gerusalemme, aprì una breccia nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim fino alla porta dell'Angolo, per quattrocento cubiti.	23 Then Joash, the king of Israel, captured Amaziah, the king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and he led him to Jerusalem. And he destroyed its walls, from the gate of Ephraim as far as the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits.
24 Prese tutto l'oro, l'argento e tutti gli oggetti che si trovavano nel tempio di Dio, affidati a Obed-Edom, i tesori del palazzo reale e alcuni ostaggi; quindi ritornò in Samaria.	24 Also, he brought back to Samaria all the gold and silver, and all the vessels, which he had found in the house of God, and with Obededom in the treasuries of the king’s house, as well as sons for hostages.
25 Dopo la morte di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d'Israele, Amazia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni.	25 Then Amaziah, the son of Joash, the king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the king of Israel.
26 Il resto delle imprese di Amazia, le prime come le ultime, non sono forse scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele?	26 Now the rest of the words of Amaziah, the first and the last, have been written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27 Dopo che Amazia si era allontanato dal Signore, si organizzò una congiura contro di lui in Gerusalemme. Egli fuggì a Lachis, ma fu inseguito a Lachis e quivi ucciso.	27 And after he withdrew from the Lord, they set up an ambush against him in Jerusalem. But since he had fled into Lachish, they sent and killed him in that place.
28 Lo caricarono su cavalli e lo seppellirono con i suoi padri nella Città di Davide.	28 And having carried him back upon horses, they buried him with his fathers in the City of David.
