LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 In quel tempo, Giuda si separò dai suoi fratelli e rizzò la sua tenda presso un uomo di Adullam, di nome Chira.	1 At that time Juda went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Odollamite, named Hiras.
2 Qui Giuda vide la figlia di un uomo Cananeo, il quale si chiamava Sua; se la prese in moglie e si unì a lei.	2 And he saw there the daughter of a man of Chanaan, called Sue: and taking her to wife, he went in unto her.
3 Essa concepì e partorì un figlio, che egli chiamò Er.	3 And she conceived, and bore a son, and called his name Her.
4 Poi concepì ancora e partorì un figlio, che chiamò Onan.	4 And conceiving again, she bore a son, and called him Onan.
5 Ancora un'altra volta partorì un figlio, che chiamò Sela. Essa si trovava in Chezib, quando lo partorì.	5 She bore also a third: whom she called Sela. after whose birth, she ceased to bear any more.
6 Giuda prese una moglie per il suo primogenito Er, la quale si chiamava Tamar.	6 And Juda took a wife for Her his firstborn, whose name was Thamar.
7 Ma Er, il primogenito di Giuda, era perverso agli occhi del Signore, e il Signore lo fece morire.	7 And Her, the firstborn of Juda, was wicked in the sight of the Lord: and was slain by him.
8 Allora Giuda disse a Onan: "Accostati alla moglie di tuo fratello, fa' il dovere di cognato nei suoi riguardi e fa' sussistere così una posterità per tuo fratello".	8 Juda, therefore add to Onan his son: Go in to thy brother's wife and marry her, that thou mayst raise seed to thy brother.
9 Ma Onan, sapendo che la prole non sarebbe stata sua, ogni volta che si univa alla moglie di suo fratello, disperdeva per terra, per non dare una posterità a suo fratello.	9 He knowing that the children should not be his, when he went in to his brother's wife, spilled his seed upon the ground, lest children should be born in his brother's name.
10 Ciò ch'egli faceva dispiacque agli occhi del Signore, che fece morire anche lui.	10 And therefore the Lord slew him, because he did a detestable thing.
11 Allora Giuda disse alla nuora Tamar: "Ritorna a casa di tuo padre come vedova, fin quando mio figlio Sela diverrà grande". Perché temeva che anche questi morisse come gli altri fratelli! Così Tamar se ne andò e ritornò alla casa di suo padre.	11 Wherefore Juda said to Thamar his daughter in law: Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Sela my son grow up: for he was afraid lest he also might die, as his brethren did. She went her way and dwelt in her father's house.
12 Passarono molti giorni e morì la figlia di Sua, la moglie di Giuda. Quando Giuda ebbe finito il lutto, salì da quelli che tosavano il suo gregge a Timna, e con lui vi era Chira, il suo amico di Adullam.	12 And after many days were past, the daughter of Sue the wife of Juda died: and when he had taken comfort after his mourning, he went up to Thamnas, to the shearers of his sheep, he and Hiras the Odollamite the shepherd of his flock.
13 Ne fu informata Tamar con questi termini: "Ecco che il tuo suocero sale a Timna per la tosatura del suo gregge".	13 And it was told Thamar that her father in law was come up to Thamnas to shear his sheep.
14 Allora Tamar svestì i suoi abiti vedovili, si coprì con un velo, si profumò, poi si pose seduta alla porta di Enaim, che è sulla strada verso Timna. Aveva visto infatti che Sela era ormai diventato adulto, ma lei non gli era stata data in moglie.	14 And she put off the garments of her widowhood, and took a veil: and changing her dress, sat in the cross way, that leadeth to Thamnas: because Sela was grown up, and she had not been married to him.
15 Giuda la vide e la credette una meretrice, perché essa si era coperta la faccia.	15 dummy verses inserted by amos
16 Egli deviò il cammino verso di lei e disse: "Suvvia, permetti che io mi accosti a te!". Non sapeva infatti che quella fosse la sua nuora. Essa disse: "Che cosa mi darai per accostarti a me?".	16 When Juda saw her, he thought she was a harlot: for she had covered her face, lest she should be known.
17 Rispose: "Io ti manderò un capretto del gregge". Essa riprese: "Se tu mi dai un pegno fin quando me lo manderai...".
18 Egli disse: "Qual è il pegno che ti devo dare?". Rispose: "Il tuo sigillo, il tuo cordone e il bastone che hai in mano". Giuda glieli diede, le si accostò, ed essa concepì da lui.	18 He said: I will send thee a kid out of the flock. And when she said again: I will suffer what thou wilt, if thou give a pledge, till thou send what thou promisest,
19 Poi essa si levò e se ne andò; si tolse di dosso il velo e si rivestì dei suoi abiti vedovili.	19 Juda said: What wilt thou have for a pledge ? She answered: Thy ring and bracelet, and the staff which thou holdest in thy hand. The woman therefore at one copulation conceived.
20 Giuda poi mandò il capretto per mezzo del suo amico di Adullam, per riprendere il pegno dalle mani di quella donna, ma quello non la trovò.	20 And she arose and went her way: and putting off the apparel which she had taken, put on the garments of her widowhood.
21 Domandò agli uomini di quel luogo: "Dov'è quella prostituta che stava in Enaim sulla strada?". Essi risposero: "Non c'è stata qui nessuna prostituta".	21 And Juda sent a kid by his shepherd, the Odollamite, that he might receive the pledge again, which he had given to the woman: but he, not finding her,
22 Così tornò da Giuda e disse: "Non l'ho trovata, e anche gli uomini del luogo dicevano: "Non c'è stata qui nessuna prostituta".	22 asked the men of that place : Where is the woman that sat in the cross way? And when they all made answer: There was no harlot in this place,
23 Allora Giuda disse: "Si tenga per sé il pegno e noi non si sia nel disprezzo. Vedi bene che le ho mandato questo capretto, ma tu non l'hai trovata".	23 He returned to Juda, and said to him: I have not found her; moreover the men of that place said to me, that there never sat a harlot there.
24 Or avvenne, circa tre mesi dopo, che fu portata a Giuda una notizia in questi termini: "Si è prostituita tua nuora Tamar, ed anzi è incinta in conseguenza della sua prostituzione". Giuda rispose: "Conducetela fuori e sia bruciata!".	24 Juda said : Let her take it to herself ; surely she cannot charge us with a,lie: I sent the kid which I promised: and thou didst not find her.
25 Mentre la si faceva uscire, essa mandò a dire al suocero: "L'uomo, a cui appartengono questi oggetti, mi ha reso incinta". E aggiunse: "Riscontra, di grazia, di chi siano questo sigillo, questi cordoni e questo bastone".	25 And behold after three months they told a lie, saying: Thamar, thy daughter in law hath played the harlot, and she appeareth to have a big belly. And Juda said : Bring her out that she may be burnt.
26 Allora Giuda li riconobbe e disse: "Essa è più giusta di me. Infatti è perché io non l'ho data al mio figlio Sela". E non ebbe più rapporti con lei.	26 dummy verses inserted by amos
27 Quando essa fu giunta al momento di partorire, ecco che aveva nel ventre due gemelli.	27 But when she was led to execution, she sent to her father in law, saying: By the man, to whom these things belong, I am with child. See whose ring, and bracelet, and staff this is.
28 Durante il parto uno di loro mise fuori una mano e la levatrice prese un filo scarlatto e lo legò attorno a quella mano, dicendo: "E' questo che è uscito per primo".
29 Ma quando questo ritirò la sua mano, ecco che uscì suo fratello. Allora essa disse: "Come ti sei aperta una breccia?" e lo si chiamò Perez.	29 And when she was ready to be brought to bed, there appeared twins in her womb: and in the very delivery of the infants, one put forth a hand, whereon the midwife tied a scarlet thread, saying:
30 Poi uscì suo fratello, che aveva il filo scarlatto attorno alla mano e lo si chiamò Zerach.	30 This shall come forth the first.
