Prima lettera di Pietro 3

1 - Similmente anche le donne sian soggette ai loro mariti, affinchè, anche se alcuni non credono alla parola siano guadagnati, senza la parola, dalla condotta esemplare delle loro mogli,	1 Similarly also, wives should be subject to their husbands, so that, even if some do not believe the Word, they may benefit without the Word, through the behavior of these wives,
2 poichè considereranno la vostra condotta casta e rispettosa.	2 as they consider with fear your chaste behavior.
3 L'ornamento delle mogli non sia all'esterno, come l'acconciatura dei capelli, la moltitudine dei gioielli o lo sfoggio di vesti diverse;	3 For you, there should be no unnecessary adornment of the hair, or surrounding with gold, or the wearing of ornate clothing.
4 sia invece l'interiore, il cuore, [l'ornamento] incorruttibile d'uno spirito tranquillo e modesto, che è tanto prezioso agli occhi di Dio.	4 Instead, you should be a hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit, rich in the sight of God.
5 Così, di fatto, una volta si adornavano le sante donne che speravano in Dio, stando soggette ai loro mariti,	5 For in this way, in past times also, holy women adorned themselves, hoping in God, being subject to their own husbands.
6 come Sara, che ubbidiva ad Abramo, chiamandolo «signore»; [quella Sara] della quale voi siete figliuole se fate il bene senza lasciarvi sbigottire da qualsiasi spavento.	6 For so Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You are her daughters, well-behaved and unafraid of any disturbance.
7 E anche voi, o mariti, convivete con saggezza con le mogli e rendete loro onore come a vaso più fragile, essendo anche le donne coeredi della grazia della vita; affinchè le vostre orazioni non abbiano da essere impedite.	7 Similarly, you husbands should live with them in accord with knowledge, bestowing honor on the female as the weaker vessel and as co-heirs of the life of grace, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
8 Insomma [siate] tutti concordi, compassionevoli, amanti dei fratelli, misericordiosi, modesti, umili;	8 And finally, may you all be of one mind: compassionate, loving brotherhood, merciful, meek, humble,
9 non rendete male per male, nè maledizione per maledizione; ma invece benedite, perchè a questo siete stati chiamati: a possedere in eredità la benedizione.	9 not repaying evil with evil, nor slander with slander, but, to the contrary, repaying with blessings. For to this you have been called, so that you may possess the inheritance of a blessing.
10 Poichè chi vuol amare la vita e vedere giorni beati, raffreni la sua lingua dal male e le sue labbra non parlino inganno.	10 For whoever wants to love life and to see good days should restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips, so that they utter no deceit.
11 Schivi il male e faccia il bene, cerchi la pace e le vada dietro;	11 Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.
12 perchè gli occhi del Signore sono sopra i giusti e le sue orecchie [attente] alle loro orazioni; ma la faccia del Signore sta contro coloro che fanno il male.	12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the just, and his ears are with their prayers, but the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil.
13 E chi potrà farvi del male, se sarete zelanti del bene?	13 And who is it who can harm you, if you are zealous in what is good?
14 Ma anche se aveste a soffrire qualcosa per la giustizia, beati voi! Nessuna loro minaccia vi sgomenti e vi conturbi.	14 And yet, even when you suffer something for the sake of justice, you are blessed. So then, do not be afraid with their fear, and do not be disturbed.
15 Ma benedite nei vostri cuori Cristo Signore, pronti sempre a dar soddisfazione a chiunque vi domandi ragione della speranza che è in voi;	15 But sanctify Christ the Lord in your hearts, being always ready to give an explanation to all who ask you the reason for that hope which is in you.
16 ma [ciò farete] con modestia e rispetto, forti della vostra buona coscienza, in guisa che quando sparlano di voi, rimangano confusi quelli che calunniano la vostra buona condotta in Cristo.	16 But do so with meekness and fear, having a good conscience, so that, in whatever matter they may slander you, they shall be confounded, since they falsely accuse your good behavior in Christ.
17 Poichè è meglio che soffriate (se tale è la volontà di Dio) facendo il bene, che facendo il male;	17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if it is the will of God, than for doing evil.
18 perchè anche Cristo è morto una volta per i nostri peccati, - Egli giusto per gli ingiusti, - per offrire voi a Dio; messo a morte quanto alla carne, ma vivificato per lo Spirito.	18 For Christ also died once for our sins, the Just One on behalf of the unjust, so that he might offer us to God, having died, certainly, in the flesh, but having been enlivened by the Spirit.
19 Nel quale [Spirito] andò a predicare anche a quelli spiriti che erano in carcere,	19 And in the Spirit, he preached to those who were in prison, going to those souls
20 i quali eran stati una volta increduli, allorchè la pazienza di Dio stava aspettando ai giorni di Noè, mentre si fabbricava l'arca, nella quale pochi, cioè otto anime, scamparono dall'acqua.	20 who had been unbelieving in past times, while they waited for the patience of God, as in the days of Noah, when the ark was being built. In that ark, a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.
21 Figura codesta di quel battesimo che ora vi salva, - non ripulimento delle sozzure della carne, ma contratto di buona coscienza fatto con Dio, - per mezzo della risurrezione di Gesù Cristo,	21 And now you also are saved, in a similar manner, by baptism, not by the testimony of sordid flesh, but by the examination of a good conscience in God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
22 il quale sta alla destra di Dio Padre, dopo aver ingoiata la morte perchè noi diventassimo eredi della vita eterna. Egli, andato in cielo, si è assoggettati gli angeli, le Potestà e le Virtù.	22 He is at the right hand of God, devouring death, so that we may be made heirs to eternal life. And since he has journeyed to heaven, the Angels and powers and virtues are subject to him.
