1 - Guardatevi dal fare le vostre buone opere dinanzi agli uomini per essere veduti da loro, altrimenti non ne avrete la ricompensa dal Padre vostro che è nei cieli.	1 “Pay attention, lest you perform your justice before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you shall not have a reward with your Father, who is in heaven.
2 Quando dunque fai l'elemosina non sonare la tromba davanti a te, come fanno gli ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade per essere onorati dagli uomini. In verità vi dico che han già ricevuto il loro premio.	2 Therefore, when you give alms, do not choose to sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the towns, so that they may be honored by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
3 Ma quando fai elemosina, non sappia la tua sinistra quello che fa la destra,	3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4 cosicchè la tua elemosina sia fatta in segreto, e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa.	4 so that your almsgiving may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
5 Quando pregate, non fate come gl'ipocriti, i quali amano di stare a pregare nelle sinagoghe e agli angoli delle piazze per essere visti dagli uomini; in verità vi dico che essi han già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.	5 And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
6 Ma tu, quando vuoi pregare, entra nella tua camera, chiudi la porta e prega il Padre tuo in segreto, e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti esaudirà.	6 But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
7 Nel pregare poi, non abbondare di parole come fanno i pagani, che credono di essere esauditi moltiplicando le parole.	7 And when praying, do not choose many words, as the pagans do. For they think that by their excess of words they might be heeded.
8 Non imitateli, perchè il Padre vostro sa ciò che vi occorre anche prima che glielo domandiate.	8 Therefore, do not choose to imitate them. For your Father knows what your needs may be, even before you ask him.
9 Voi, dunque, pregherete così:- Padre nostro, che sei nei cieli,Sia santificato il tuo nome;	9 Therefore, you shall pray in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven: May your name be kept holy.
10 Venga il tuo regno; Sia fatta la tua volontà, come in cielo così in terra.	10 May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.
11 Dacci oggi il pane necessario alla nostra sussistenza.	11 Give us this day our life-sustaining bread.
12 E perdona a noi i nostri debiti, come anche noi li perdoniamo ai nostri debitori.	12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13 E non c'indurre in tentazione, ma liberaci dal male. Così sia. -	13 And lead us not into temptation. But free us from evil. Amen.
14 Perchè se voi perdonate agli uomini le loro mancanze, anche a voi le perdonerà il Padre vostro celeste;	14 For if you will forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father also will forgive you your offenses.
15 ma se non perdonate agli uomini, nemmeno il Padre vostro vi perdonerà i vostri peccati.	15 But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your sins.
16 Quando poi digiunate, non vogliate imitare gli ipocriti, che prendono un'aria malinconica e sfigurano la faccia per far vedere agli uomini che digiunano. In verità, vi dico che han già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.	16 And when you fast, do not choose to become gloomy, like the hypocrites. For they alter their faces, so that their fasting may be apparent to men. Amen I say to you, that they have received their reward.
17 Tu invece quando digiuni, ungiti il capo e lavati la faccia,	17 But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 affinchè non agli uomini tu appaia come uno che digiuni, ma al Padre tuo, che è nel segreto; ed il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti darà la ricompensa.	18 so that your fasting will not be apparent to men, but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
19 Non accumulate tesori sulla terra, ove la ruggine e il tarlo li consumano e dove i ladri li dissotterrano e li rubano;	19 Do not choose to store up for yourselves treasures on earth: where rust and moth consume, and where thieves break in and steal.
20 accumulate invece tesori nel cielo, ove nè la ruggine nè il tarlo li consumano e dove i ladri non li dissotterrano nè li rubano.	20 Instead, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither rust nor moth consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 Poichè dov'è il tuo tesoro, là v'è anche il tuo cuore.	21 For where your treasure is, there also is your heart.
22 La lucerna del tuo corpo è il tuo occhio: se il tuo occhio è sano, tutto il tuo corpo sarà illuminato;	22 The lamp of your body is your eye. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light.
23 ma se il tuo occhio è torbido tutto il tuo corpo sarà nelle tenebre. Se adunque la luce che è in te, è oscurità, quanto grandi saranno le tenebre!	23 But if your eye has been corrupted, your entire body will be darkened. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great will that darkness be!
24 Nessuno può servire a due padroni, perchè od odierà l'uno e amerà l'altro, o si attaccherà all'uno e disprezzerà l'altro. Non potete servir Dio e Mammona.	24 No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will have hatred for the one, and love the other, or he will persevere with the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
25 Perciò vi dico: - Non siate troppo solleciti per la vostra vita, di quel che mangerete o berrete, nè per il vostro corpo, di quel di cui vi vestirete. La vita non vale più del nutrimento e il corpo più del vestito?	25 And so I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, as to what you will eat, nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26 Osservate gli uccelli dell'aria, che non seminano, non mietono e non raccolgono nei granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre. Ora, non siete voi molto di più di essi?	26 Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are?
27 E chi di voi, a furia di pensarci su, può aggiungere un cubito alla propria statura?	27 And which of you, by thinking, is able to add one cubit to his stature?
28 E perchè darvi tanta pena per il vestito? Considerate come crescono i gigli del campo; essi non lavorano e non filano.	28 And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither work nor weave.
29 Tuttavia vi dico che neppur Salomone, con tutto il suo splendore, fu mai vestito come uno di essi.	29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon, in all his glory, was arrayed like one of these.
30 Se dunque Dio riveste così l'erba del campo, che oggi è e domani vien buttata nel forno, quanto a maggior ragione vestirà voi, o uomini di poca fede?-	30 So if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and cast into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he care for you, O little in faith?
31 Non vogliate dunque preoccuparvi, dicendo: Cosa mangeremo? - oppure: - Cosa berremo? o di che ci vestiremo? -	31 Therefore, do not choose to be anxious, saying: ‘What shall we eat, and what shall we drink, and with what shall we be clothed?’
32 Sono i Gentili che cercan tutto ciò, mentre il Padre vostro sa che n'avete bisogno.	32 For the Gentiles seek all these things. Yet your Father knows that you need all these things.
33 Cercate prima il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia e tutto il resto vi sarà dato per giunta.	33 Therefore, seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added to you as well.
34 Non preoccupatevi dunque per il domani, poichè il domani sarà sollecito di se stesso. A ciascun giorno basta il suo affanno.	34 Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow; for the future day will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its evil.”
