1 - Nell'anno nono di Sedecia, re di Giuda, nel decimo mese, Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia con tutto il suo esercito venne a Gerusalemme e la strinse di assedio.	1 In the tenth month of the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army marched against Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 E nell'anno undecimo di Sedecia, nel quarto mese, ai cinque del mese, il muro della città fu sfondato.	2 On the ninth day of the fourth month, in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, a breach was made in the city's defenses.
3 E tutti i principi del re di Babilonia entrarono e si fermarono alla porta di mezzo: Neregel, Sereser, Semegarnabu, Sarsachim, Rabsares, Neregel, Sereser, Rebmag e tutti gli altri principi del re di Babilonia.	3 All the princes of the king of Babylon came and occupied the middle gate: Nergal-sharezer, of Simmagir, the chief officer, Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and all the other princes of the king of Babylon. . . .

He was brought to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, where Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, pronounced sentence upon him.

7 fece poi cavare gli occhi a Sedecia, e lo caricò di catene per essere condotto in Babilonia.	7 He then blinded Zedekiah and bound him in chains to bring him to Babylon.
8 I Caldei inoltre diedero alle fiamme il palazzo del re e le case dei privati e smantellarono le mura di Gerusalemme.	8 The Chaldeans set fire to the king's palace and the houses of the people, and demolished the walls of Jerusalem.
9 E il resto della popolazione che era rimasta in città; i fuggiaschi che erano passati al nemico furono con tutto il popolo rimasto, da Nabuzardan, capo delle soldatesche, deportati in Babilonia.	9 Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, deported to Babylon the rest of the people left in the city, those who had deserted to him, and the rest of the workmen.
10 E quelli della bassa plebe che non possedavano nulla, Nabuzardan, capo delle soldatesche, lasciò nella terra di Giuda e loro diede vigne e cisterne, quel giorno stesso.	10 But some of the poor who had no property were left in the land of Judah by Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and were given at the same time vineyards and farms.
11 Quanto poi a Geremia, Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, aveva dato ordine a Nabuzardan, capo delle soldatesche, dicendogli:	11 Concerning Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, gave the following orders through Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard:
12 «Prendilo e usagli riguardo e non fargli alcun male, ma prestati in tutto quello che desidera».	12 "Take him and look after him; let no harm befall him, but treat him as he himself requests."
13 Allora Nabuzardan, capo delle soldatesche, e Nabusezban, Rabsares e Neregel e Sereser e Rebmag e tutti i graduati del re di Babilonia,	13 Thereupon Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and Nergal-sharezer, the chief officer, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon,
14 mandarono a prendere Geremia dal cortile del carcere, e lo consegnarono a Godolia, figlio di Aicam, figlio di Safan, per dargli casa in cui entrare e potesse abitare in mezzo al popolo.	14 had Jeremiah taken out of the quarters of the guard, and entrusted to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to be brought home. And so he remained among the people.
15 A Geremia poi, mentre stava ancora chiuso nel cortile del carcere, il Signore aveva comunicato la sua parola dicendogli:	15 While Jeremiah was still imprisoned in the quarters of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him:
16 «Va', e dirai così ad Abdemelec l'etiope: -Così dice il Signore degli eserciti il Dio d'Israele: "Ecco che io darò alle mie parole contro questa città un triste e non felice adempimento, e tu ne sarai spettatore nel giorno che sarà.	16 Go, tell this to Ebed-melech the Cushite: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am now fulfilling the words I spoke against this city, for evil and not for good; and this before your very eyes.
17 Ma in quel giorno io ti libererò, dice il Signore, e non sarai dato nelle mani degli uomini che tu paventi.	17 But on that day I will rescue you, says the LORD; you shall not be handed over to the men of whom you are afraid.
18 Sarai risparmiato e io ti libererò e non cadrai sotto la spada, ma avrai sana e salva la vita, perchè hai confidato in me, dice il Signore"-».	18 I will make certain that you escape and do not fall by the sword. Your life shall be spared as booty, because you trusted in me, says the LORD.
