1 - Davide adunque vecchio e molto avanzato negli anni costituì Salomone, suo figlio, re sopra Israele	1 Then David, being old and full of days, appointed his son Solomon as king over Israel.
2 e riunì tutti i principi e tutti i sacerdoti e i leviti.	2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests as well as the Levites.
3 Furono contati i leviti dai trent'anni in su e si trovò che essi erano trentottomila.	3 And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward. And there were found thirty-eight thousand men.
4 Tra questi, ventiquattromila furono eletti e distribuiti nei vari servizi della casa del Signore; seimila furono fatti capi e giudici;	4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were chosen and distributed to the ministry of the house of the Lord. Then six thousand were overseers and judges.
5 quattromila furono nominati portieri e altrettanti cantori che cantavano al Signore con gli strumenti che erano stati fatti per il canto.	5 Moreover, four thousand were porters. And the same number were the singers of psalms to the Lord, with the musical instruments which he had made for the music.
6 E Davide li distribuì secondo le classi dei figli di Levi, cioè Gerson, Caat e Merari.	6 And David distributed them into courses according to the sons of Levi, specifically, Gershom, and Kohath, and Merari.
7 I figli di Gerson: Leedan e Semei.	7 The sons of Gershom: Ladan and Shimei.
8 I figli di Leedan furon tre: Jaiel, capo, Zetan e Joel.	8 The sons of Ladan: the leader Jahiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9 I figli di Semei furono tre: Salomit, Osiel e Aran. Questi furono i capi della famiglia di Leedan.	9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the leaders of the families of Ladan.
10 Altri figli di Semei: Let, Ziza, Jaus e Baria. Questi quattro furono figli di Semei.	10 Then the sons of Shimei: Jahath, and Zizah, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei, four.
11 Leet era il primo, Ziza il secondo; Jeus e Baria non ebbero molti figli, e furono considerati perciò come formanti una sola famiglia ed una sola casa.	11 Now Jahath was first, Zizah second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, and for this reason they were reckoned as one family and one house.
12 I figli di Caat furono quattro: Amram, Isaar, Ebron e Oziel.	12 The sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel, four.
13 Figli di Amram furono: Aronne e Mosè. Aronne fu scelto per servire nel Santo dei Santi, egli e i figli suoi in perpetuo, per bruciare incenso al Signore secondo il rito e per benedire il nome di lui in perpetuo.	13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Now Aaron was separated so that he might minister in the Holy of Holies, he and his sons forever, and so that he might burn incense to the Lord, according to his rite, and so that he might bless his name in perpetuity.
14 Anche i figli di Mosè, uomo di Dio, vennero contati nella tribù di Levi.	14 The sons of Moses, the man of God, were also numbered in the tribe of Levi.
15 Furono figli di Mosè: Gersom ed Eliezer.	15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16 Il figlio di Gersom fu Subuel il primo.	16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the first.
17 Furono poi figli di Eliezer: Roobia il primo; ed Eliezer non ebbe altri figli: ma i figli di Roobia si moltiplicarono assai.	17 Now the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the first. And there were no other sons for Eliezer. But the sons of Rehabiah were multiplied exceedingly.
18 Isaar ebbe Salomit come primogenito.	18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the first.
19 Ebron ebbe primo Jeriau, secondo Amaria, terzo Jaaziel, quarto Jeemaam.	19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.
20 I figli di Oziel furono il primo Mica e Jesia il secondo.	20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first, Isshiah the second.
21 I figli di Merari furono: Mooli e Musi. I figli di Mooli: Eleazar e Cis.	21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22 Morto poi Eleazar senza figli, ma solamente con figlie, queste si sposarono ai figli di Cis loro parenti.	22 Then Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters. And so the sons of Kish, their brothers, married them.
23 I figli di Musi furono questi tre: Mooli, Eder e Jerimot.	23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 Questi furono i figli di Levi secondo le loro parentele e famiglie, i capi delle varie classi e il numero dei singoli capi, che servivano nella casa del Signore dai venti anni in su,	24 These are the sons of Levi, in their kindred and families, leaders in turns, and the number of each of the heads who were doing the works of the ministry of the house of the Lord, from twenty years of age and upward.
25 poichè Davide aveva detto: «Il Signore Dio di Israele ha dato al popolo la pace e l'abitazione di Gerusalemme per sempre.	25 For David said: “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and a habitation in Jerusalem even unto eternity.
26 Perciò i leviti non dovranno più portare il tabernacolo e tutti i vasi occorrenti per il ministero».	26 Neither shall it be the office of the Levites any more to carry the tabernacle with all its equipment for use in the ministry.”
27 Secondo ordini recenti di Davide il numero dei leviti dovrebbe computarsi dai venti anni in su:	27 Also, according to the last precepts of David, the sons of Levi shall be counted by number from twenty years of age and upward.
28 essi dovranno stare soggetti, per ciò che riguarda il culto del tempio nei vestiboli, nelle stanze, nel luogo della purificazione, nel santuario e in tutte le opere del servizio del tempio del Signore, ai figli di Aronne.	28 And they shall be under the hand of the sons of Aaron, in the care of the house of the Lord, in the vestibule, and in the chambers, and in the place of purification, and in the sanctuary, and in all the works of the ministry of the temple of the Lord.
29 I sacerdoti poi dovranno attendere ai pani della proposizione, alle offerte da farsi con fior di farina, alle schiacciate senza lievito, ai pani che si cuociono, alle cose che si friggono nella padella o che devono essere arrostite e inoltre ad ogni peso e misura.	29 But the priests shall be over the bread of the presence, and the sacrifice of fine wheat flour, and the unleavened cakes, and the frying pan, and the roasting, and over every weight and measure.
30 I leviti attenderanno a lodar e a cantare al Signore ogni mattina e ogni sera,	30 Yet truly, the Levites shall stand to confess and to sing to the Lord, in the morning, and similarly in the evening,
31 quando si offrono olocausti al Signore durante i sabati e le calende e le altre solennità secondo il numero e gli ordini prescritti per ciascuna cosa dinanzi al Signore.	31 as much in the oblation of the holocausts of the Lord, as in the Sabbaths and new moons and other solemnities, according to the number and ceremonies for each and every matter, perpetually before the Lord.
32 Dovranno inoltre custodire tutte le prescrizioni riguardanti il tabernacolo dell'alleanza, il rito del santuario e le prescrizioni dei figli di Aronne loro fratelli per compiere il loro ministero nella casa del Signore.	32 And let them keep the observances of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the rituals of the sanctuary, and the observance of the sons of Aaron, their brothers, so that they may minister in the house of the Lord.
