1 Then David went away from there, and he fled to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all of his father’s house had heard of it, they descended to him there.	1 David partit de là et se mit en sûreté dans la grotte d’Adoullam. Ses frères et sa famille l’apprirent et descendirent vers lui en ce lieu.
2 And all those left in distress, or oppressed by debt to strangers, or bitter in soul, gathered themselves to him. And he became their leader, and about four hundred men were with him.	2 Tous ceux qui avaient des ennuis se rassemblèrent également autour de lui, tous ceux qui étaient poursuivis par un créancier ou qui étaient mécontents. Il devint leur chef, et avec lui ils étaient environ 400.
3 And David set out from there to Mizpah, which is of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “I beg you, let my father and my mother remain with you, until I know what God will do for me.”	3 De là David alla à Mispé de Moab. Il dit au roi de Moab: “J’aimerais que mon père et ma mère se retirent chez toi jusqu’à ce que je sache ce que Dieu me réserve.”
4 And he left them before the face of the king of Moab. And they stayed with him for all the days that David was in the stronghold.	4 Il conduisit ses parents chez le roi de Moab et ils restèrent là jusqu’au jour où David quitta le refuge.
5 And the prophet Gad said to David: “Do not choose to stay in the stronghold. Set out and go into the land of Judah.” And so, David set out, and he went into the forest of Hereth.	5 Le prophète Gad dit un jour à David: “Ne reste pas au refuge, va et rentre au pays de Juda.” David s’en alla et arriva à la forêt de Hérèt.
6 And Saul heard that David, and the men who were with him, had been seen. Now while Saul was staying in Gibeah, and while he was in the forest that is in Ramah, holding a spear in his hand, with all his servants standing around him,	6 Saül apprit que l’on avait des nouvelles de David et des hommes qui étaient avec lui. Saül siégeait à ce moment à Guibéa sous le tamaris qui est sur la colline: il avait sa lance à la main et tous ses serviteurs étaient debout autour de lui.
7 he said to his servants who were assisting him: “Listen now, you sons of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give to all of you fields and vineyards, and will he make all of you tribunes or centurions,	7 Saül dit alors à ses serviteurs réunis autour de lui: “Écoutez donc, hommes de Benjamin! Croyez-vous que le fils de Jessé vous donnera aussi à tous des champs et des vignes, et qu’il fera de vous tous des chefs de mille et des chefs de cent?
8 so that you would all conspire against me, and so that there is no one to inform me, especially when even my son has formed a pact with the son of Jesse? There is no one among you who grieves for my situation, or who would report to me. For my son has raised up my servant against me, seeking to betray me, even to this day.”	8 Pourquoi êtes-vous tous d’accord contre moi? Personne ne m’a prévenu que mon fils avait fait une alliance avec le fils de Jessé. Nul d’entre vous ne s’inquiète pour moi, pas un ne m’a révélé que mon fils avait soulevé contre moi mon serviteur et m’en avait fait un adversaire, comme c’est le cas aujourd’hui.”
9 Then Doeg, the Edomite, who was standing near, and who was first among the servants of Saul, responding, said: “I saw the son of Jesse, in Nob, with Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, the priest.	9 Doëg l’Édomite, qui était l’un des chefs des serviteurs de Saül, prit alors la parole: “J’ai vu le fils de Jessé quand il arrivait à Nob chez Ahimélek fils d’Ahitoub.
10 And he consulted the Lord for him, and he gave him food. Moreover, he gave him the sword of Goliath, the Philistine.”	10 Celui-ci a consulté Yahvé pour lui, il lui a donné des provisions et lui a remis l’épée de Goliath le Philistin.”
11 Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech, the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all of his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob, and they all came before the king.	11 Alors Saül fit appeler le prêtre Ahimélek fils d’Ahitoub, et toute sa famille, les prêtres de Nob; ils arrivèrent tous chez le roi.
12 And Saul said to Ahimelech, “Listen, son of Ahitub.” He responded, “Here I am, lord.”	12 Saül dit: “Écoute-moi donc, fils d’Ahitoub.” Il répondit: “Me voici, mon seigneur.”
13 And Saul said to him: “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse? For you gave him bread and a sword, and you consulted the Lord for him, so that he might rise up against me, continuing as a traitor even to this day.”	13 Saül lui dit: “Pourquoi avez-vous conspiré contre moi, toi et le fils de Jessé? Tu lui as donné du pain et une épée, tu as consulté Dieu pour lui, pour qu’il se soulève contre moi, et il s’est fait mon adversaire, comme on le voit aujourd’hui.”
14 And responding to the king, Ahimelech said: “But who among all your servants is as faithful as David? And he is the son-in-law of the king, and he goes forth at your order, and he is a glory within your house.	14 Ahimélek répondit au roi: “Qui était fidèle comme David parmi tous les serviteurs du roi? Il est le gendre du roi, il est affecté à sa garde personnelle, il est honoré dans sa maison.
15 Did I begin to consult the Lord for him today? May this be far from me! Let not the king suspect this kind of thing against his servant, nor against anyone in all my father’s house. For your servant did not know anything about this matter, either small or great.”	15 Assurément, ce n’est pas la première fois que j’ai consulté Dieu pour lui. Que le roi ne me reproche rien, pas plus qu’à toute la maison de mon père, ton serviteur ne savait rien de tout cela, absolument rien.”
16 And the king said, “You shall die a death, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!”	16 Mais le roi dit: “Ahimélek, tu vas mourir, toi et toute la maison de ton père avec toi.”
17 And the king said to the emissaries who were standing around him: “You shall turn, and put to death the priests of the Lord. For their hand is with David. They knew that he had fled, and they did not reveal it to me.” But the servants of the king were not willing to extend their hands against the priests of the Lord.	17 Puis le roi dit aux soldats qui étaient autour de lui: “Avancez et mettez à mort les prêtres de Yahvé, car eux aussi soutiennent David. Ils savaient qu’il s’enfuyait loin de moi et ils ne m’ont rien dit.” Mais les serviteurs du roi ne voulurent pas frapper les prêtres de Yahvé.
18 And the king said to Doeg, “You shall turn and rush against the priests.” And Doeg, the Edomite, turned and rushed against the priests. And he massacred, on that day, eighty-five men, vested with the linen ephod.	18 Alors le roi dit à Doëg: “Avance toi, et frappe les prêtres.” Et Doëg l’Édomite s’avança et frappa les prêtres. Ce jour-là il mit à mort 85 hommes qui portaient le pagne de lin.
19 Then he struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword; he struck down men and women, little ones and infants, as well as ox and donkey and sheep, with the edge of the sword.	19 Nob, la ville des prêtres, fut passée au fil de l’épée: hommes et femmes, enfants et nourrissons, on passa tout au fil de l’épée, y compris les bœufs, les ânes et les moutons.
20 But one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, whose name was Abiathar, escaping, fled to David.	20 Seul échappa un fils d’Ahimélek fils d’Ahitoub, il s’appelait Ébyatar. Il courut rejoindre David.
21 And he reported to him that Saul had slain the priests of the Lord.	21 Ébyatar raconta à David comment Saül avait tué les prêtres de Yahvé,
22 And David said to Abiathar: “I knew, on that day when Doeg, the Edomite was there, that without doubt he would report it to Saul. I am guilty of all the souls of your father’s house.	22 et David lui dit: “Doëg l’Édomite était présent ce jour-là et je savais bien qu’il préviendrait Saül. C’est moi qui ai causé la mort de toute ta famille.
23 You should remain with me. Do not be afraid. For he who seeks my life, seeks your life also, but with me you shall be saved.”	23 Reste donc avec moi et ne crains rien, celui qui s’en prend à ta vie s’en prend à la mienne: à côté de moi tu seras bien gardé.”
