1 Then Samuel took a little vial of oil, and poured it on his head. And he kissed him, and said: “Behold, the Lord has anointed you as first ruler over his inheritance. And you shall free his people from the hands of their enemies, who are all around them. And this shall be a sign for you that God has anointed you as ruler:	1 E Samuel tolse uno vasello d' olio, e versoglielo sopra il capo, e baciollo, e disse: ecco che il Signore t' hae unto principe sopra la sua eredità, e tu libererai il popolo [suo] delle mani de' suoi nemici che sono d' intorno. E che il Signore t' abbia unto principe, questo ti sarà segnale.
2 When you will have departed from me this day, you will find two men beside the sepulcher of Rachel, in the parts of Benjamin to the south. And they will say to you: ‘The donkeys have been found, which you had been seeking as you traveled. And your father, forgetting about the donkeys, has been anxious for you, and he says, “What shall I do about my son?” ’	2 Quando tu sarai partito oggi da me, troverai due uomini presso al sepolcro di Rachel ne' confini di Beniamin, nel mezzo dì (facendo due grandi cave), e dirannoti: le asine, le quali voi eravate andati cercando, sono ritrovate; e il tuo padre, interlasciate le asine, è sollecito di voi, e dice: che farò io del mio figliuolo?
3 And when you will have departed from there, and will have traveled farther, and will have arrived at the oak of Tabor, in that place three men, who are going up to God at Bethel, will find you. One will be bringing three young goats, and another three loaves of bread, and another will be carrying a bottle of wine.	3 E quando tu sarai partito indi, e passerai più oltre, e sarai venuto alla quercia di Tabor, troverai tre uomini, li quali ascenderanno a Dio in Betel; l'uno porterà tre capretti, l'altro tre tortelli di pane, e l'altro una mezzina di vino.
4 And when they will have greeted you, they will give you two loaves. And you shall accept these from their hand.	4 E quando t' avranno salutato, ti daranno due pani, e torraili delle loro mani.
5 After these things, you shall arrive at the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. And when you will have entered the city there, you will meet a company of prophets, descending from the high place, with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp before them, and they will be prophesying.	5 Dopo questo tu verrai nel colle del Signore, dove che è la mansione de' Filistei: e quando tu sarai entrato nella città, tu ti riscontrerai in uno gregge di profeti li quali discenderanno dal monte, e dinanzi da loro sarà uno salterio e uno timpano, e tibia e citara, e loro profetando.
6 And the Spirit of the Lord will spring up within you. And you shall prophesy with them, and you shall be changed into another man.	6 E lo spirito di Dio verrà in te, e profeterai con esso loro, e sarai mutato in uno altro uomo.
7 Therefore, when these signs will have happened to you, do whatever your hand will find, for the Lord is with you.	7 E quando tutti questi segni ti saranno venuti, fa ciò che la tua mano troverà, però che il Signore sì è teco.
8 And you shall descend before me into Gilgal, (for I will descend to you), so that you may offer an oblation, and may immolate victims of peace. For seven days, you shall wait, until I come to you, and reveal to you what you should do.”	8 E discenderai dinanzi a me in Galgala, e io discenderò a te, acciò che offeri offerta e vittime pacifiche; e sette dì aspetterai, tanto ch' io vegna a te, e dimostriti quello che tu facci.
9 And so, when he had turned his shoulder, so that he might go away from Samuel, God changed him to another heart. And all these signs occurred on that day.	9 E volgendo egli le reni per partirsi da Samuel, Iddio gli mutò uno altro cuore; e tutti questi segnali vennero in quel dì.
10 And they arrived at the above-stated hill, and behold, a group of prophets met him. And the Spirit of the Lord leapt up within him, and he prophesied in their midst.	10 E vennero al predetto colle, ed ecco una compagnia di profeti incontro a lui; e lo Spirito di Dio venne in lui, e profetò in mezzo di loro.
11 Then all those who had known him yesterday and the day before, seeing that he was with the prophets, and that he was prophesying, said to one other: “What is this thing that has happened to the son of Kish? Could Saul also be among the prophets?”	11 E veggendolo tutti quelli che l'aveano conosciuto ieri e l'altro dì, ch' era co' profeti e profetava, diceano l'uno all' altro: che cosa è questa, ch' è intervenuta al figliuolo di Cis? or non è egli Saul tra profeti?
12 And one would respond to the other, saying, “And who is their father?” Because of this, it turned into a proverb, “Could Saul also be among the prophets?”	12 E rispuose l'altro all' altro, dicendo: e chi è il padre suo? E però tornò in proverbio: or non è egli Saul tra i profeti?
13 Then he ceased to prophesy, and he went to the high place.	13 E restò di profetare, e andò nel monte.
14 And the uncle of Saul said to him, and to his servant, “Where did you go?” And they responded: “To seek the donkeys. But when we did not find them, we went to Samuel.”	14 E il fratello del padre suo disse a lui e al suo servo: dove andaste voi? E loro rispuosono: a cercare delle asine, le quali non le trovando, andammo a Samuel.
15 And his uncle said to him, “Tell me what Samuel said to you.”	15 E disse loro il zio suo: dichiara a me quello che ti ha detto Samuel.
16 And Saul said to his uncle, “He told us that the donkeys would be found.” But the word about the kingdom, which Samuel had spoken to him, he did not reveal to him.	16 E disse Saul a suo zio: Samuel ci manifestò che le asine erano ritrovate. Ma delle parole del regno non gli manifestò quello che Samuel gli avea detto.
17 And Samuel called the people together, to the Lord at Mizpah.	17 E Samuel chiamò il popolo a Dio in Masfa.
18 And he said to the sons of Israel: “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: I led Israel away from Egypt, and I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians, and from the hand of all the kings who were afflicting you.	18 E disse ai figliuoli d' Israel: questo dice Iddio d'Israel: io trassi Israel d' Egitto, e libera'vi delle mani degli Egizii, e delle mani di tutti i re che affligeano voi.
19 But today you have rejected your God, who alone saved you from all your evils and tribulations. And you have said: ‘By no means! Instead, appoint a king over us.’ Now therefore, stand in the sight of the Lord, by your tribes and by your families.”	19 E oggi avete gettato via il vostro Signore Iddio, il quale solo vi salvò da tutti i mali e tribulazioni vostre; e diceste: non sarà così, anzi ordina sopra di noi re. Ora istate dinanzi a Dio (vostro) secondo le vostre tribù e le vostre famiglie.
20 And Samuel brought near all the tribes of Israel, and the lot fell upon the tribe of Benjamin.	20 E mise Samuel le sorti sopra tutte le tribù d'Israel; e caddero le sorti sopra la tribù di Beniamin.
21 And he brought near the tribe of Benjamin, with its families, and the lot fell upon the family of Matri. And then it went to Saul, the son of Kish. Therefore, they sought him, but he was not found.	21 E anche mise le sorti sopra la tribù di Beniamin, e sopra tutte le cognazioni; e caddero le sorti sopra la cognazione di Metri, e pervennero insino a Saul figliuolo di Cis. Onde cercando per lui, e' non fu trovato.
22 And after these things, they consulted the Lord as to whether he would soon arrive there. And the Lord responded, “Behold, he is hidden at home.”	22 E dopo questo domandarono a Dio, se lui dovesse venire là. E Iddio respuose: egli è nascoso in casa.
23 And so they ran and brought him there. And he stood in the midst of the people, and he was taller than the entire people, from the shoulders upward.	23 E corsero, e tolserlo indi; e istette nel mezzo del popolo, ed era più alto che tutto il popolo dall'omero in suso.
24 And Samuel said to all the people: “Certainly, you see the one whom the Lord has chosen, that there is not anyone like him among all the people.” And all the people cried out and said, “Long live the king!”	24 E Samuel disse a tutto il popolo: certo voi vedete colui il quale Iddio hae eletto, chè non è simile a lui in tutto il popolo. E tutto il popolo gridava: viva il re (così dicendo tra loro).
25 Then Samuel spoke to the people the law of the kingdom, and he wrote it in a book, and he stored it in the sight of the Lord. And Samuel dismissed all the people, each one to his own house.	25 E Samuel disse al popolo la legge del regno, e scrissela nel libro, e ripuosela nel cospetto di Dio; e lasciò Samuel andare il popolo, ciascuno alla sua casa.
26 And then Saul went away to his own house at Gibeah. And a portion of the army, whose hearts had been touched by God, went away with him.	26 E anco Saul n' andò alla sua casa in Gabaa: e con esso lui andò parte del popolo, delli quali Iddio avea toccato il cuore.
27 Yet the sons of Belial said, “How could this one be able to save us?” And they despised him, and they brought him no presents. But he pretended not to hear them.	27 E i figliuoli del diavolo dissero: come ci potrà salvare costui? E ispregiarolo, e non gli portarono doni; ma ello dimostrava di non intendergli.
