Judges 10

1 After Abimelech, a leader rose up in Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the paternal uncle of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, who lived in Shamir on mount Ephraim.	1 Après Abimélek, se leva pour sauver Israël Tola, fils de Pua, fils de Dodo. Il était d'Issachar et ilhabitait Shamir dans la montagne d'Ephraïm.
2 And he judged Israel for twenty-three years, and he died and was buried at Shamir.	2 Il fut juge en Israël pendant 23 ans, puis il mourut et fut enseveli à Shamir.
3 After him succeeded Jair, a Gileadite, who judged Israel for twenty-two years,	3 Après lui se leva Yaïr de Galaad, qui jugea Israël pendant 22 ans.
4 having thirty sons sitting upon thirty young donkeys, and who were leaders of thirty cities, which from his name were called Havvoth Jair, that is, the towns of Jair, even to the present day, in the land of Gilead.	4 Il avait 30 fils qui montaient 30 ânons et ils possédaient 30 villes, qu'on appelle encore aujourd'huiles Douars de Yaïr au pays de Galaad.
5 And Jair died, and he was buried in the place which is called Kamon.	5 Puis Yaïr mourut et il fut enseveli à Qamôn.
6 But the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, joining new sins to old, and they served idols, the Baals and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria and Sidon, and of Moab and the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines. And they abandoned the Lord, and they did not worship him.	6 Les Israélites recommencèrent à faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé. Ils servirent les Baals et lesAstartés, ainsi que les dieux d'Aram et de Sidon, les dieux de Moab, ceux des Ammonites et des Philistins. Ilsabandonnèrent Yahvé et ne le servirent plus.
7 And the Lord, becoming angry against them, delivered them into the hands of the Philistines and the sons of Ammon.	7 Alors la colère de Yahvé s'alluma contre Israël et il le livra aux mains des Philistins et aux mains desAmmonites.
8 And they were afflicted and vehemently oppressed for eighteen years, all who were living beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead,	8 Ceux-ci écrasèrent et opprimèrent les Israélites à partir de cette année-là pendant dix-huit ans, tousles Israélites qui habitaient au-delà du Jourdain, dans le pays amorite en Galaad.
9 to such a great extent that the sons of Ammon, crossing over the Jordan, laid waste to Judah and Benjamin and Ephraim. And Israel was exceedingly afflicted.	9 Les Ammonites passèrent le Jourdain pour combattre aussi Juda, Benjamin et la maison d'Ephraïm etla détresse d'Israël devint extrême.
10 And crying out to the Lord, they said: “We have sinned against you. For we have forsaken the Lord our God, and we have served the Baals.”	10 Alors les Israélites crièrent vers Yahvé, disant: "Nous avons péché contre toi, car nous avonsabandonné Yahvé notre Dieu pour servir les Baals."
11 And the Lord said to them: “Did not the Egyptians, and the Amorites, and the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines,	11 Et Yahvé dit aux Israélites: "Quand des Egyptiens et des Amorites, des Ammonites et desPhilistins,
12 and also the Sidonians, and Amalek, and Canaan, oppress you, and so you cried out to me, and I rescued you from their hand?	12 quand les Sidoniens, Amaleq et Madiân vous opprimaient et que vous avez crié vers moi, ne vousai-je pas sauvés de leurs mains?
13 And yet you have forsaken me, and you have worshipped foreign gods. For this reason, I will not continue to free you any more.	13 Mais vous, vous m'avez abandonné et vous avez servi d'autres dieux. C'est pourquoi je ne voussauverai plus.
14 Go, and call upon the gods whom you have chosen. Let them free you in the time of anguish.”	14 Allez! Criez vers les dieux que vous avez choisis! Qu'ils vous sauvent, eux, au temps de votredétresse!"
15 And the sons of Israel said to the Lord: “We have sinned. You may repay us in whatever way pleases you. Yet free us now.”	15 Les Israélites répondirent à Yahvé: "Nous avons péché! Agis envers nous comme il te semblerabon, seulement, aujourd'hui délivre-nous!"
16 And saying these things, they cast out all the idols of the foreign gods from their regions, and they served the Lord God. And he was touched by their miseries.	16 Ils firent disparaître de chez eux les dieux étrangers qu'ils avaient et ils servirent Yahvé. AlorsYahvé ne supporta pas plus longtemps la souffrance d'Israël.
17 And then the sons of Ammon, shouting out together, pitched their tents in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together against them, and they made camp at Mizpah.	17 Les Ammonites se réunirent et campèrent à Galaad. Les Israélites se rassemblèrent et campèrent àMiçpa.
18 And the leaders of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever among us will be the first to begin to contend against the sons of Ammon, he shall be the leader of the people of Gilead.”	18 Alors le peuple, les chefs de Galaad, se dirent les uns aux autres: "Quel est l'homme quientreprendra d'attaquer les fils d'Ammon? Celui-là sera le chef de tous les habitants de Galaad."
