1 Consider, most beloved, this second epistle which I am writing to you, in which I stir up, by admonition, your sincere mind,	1 Queridos hermanos, esta es la segunda carta que les escribo. En las dos les he recomendado algunas cosas, para que tengan un criterio exacto.
2 so that you may be mindful of those words that I preached to you from the holy prophets, and of the precepts of the Apostles of your Lord and Savior.	2 No olviden lo que ha sido anunciado por los santos profetas, así como tampoco el mandamiento del Señor Salvador, que los Apóstoles les han transmitido.
3 Know this first: that in the last days there will arrive deceitful mockers, walking according to their own desires,	3 Sepan, en primer lugar, que en los últimos días vendrán hombres burlones y llenos de sarcasmo, que viven de acuerdo con sus pasiones,
4 saying: “Where is his promise or his advent? For from the time that the fathers have slept, all things have continued just as they were from the beginning of creation.”	4 y que dirán: «¿Dónde está la promesa de su Venida? Nuestros padres han muerto y todo sigue como al principio de la creación».
5 But they willfully ignore this: that the heavens existed first, and that the earth, from water and through water, was established by the Word of God.	5 Al afirmar esto, ellos no tienen en cuenta que hace mucho tiempo hubo un cielo, y también una tierra brotada del agua que tomó consistencia en medio de las aguas por la palabra de Dios.
6 By water, the former world then, having been inundated with water, perished.	6 A causa de esas aguas, el mundo de entonces pereció sumergido por el diluvio.
7 But the heavens and the earth that exist now were restored by the same Word, being reserved unto fire on the day of judgment, and unto the perdition of impious men.	7 Esa misma palabra de Dios ha reservado el cielo y la tierra de ahora para purificarlos por el fuego en el día del Juicio y de la perdición de los impíos.
8 Yet truly, let this one thing not escape notice, most beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day.	8 Pero ustedes, queridos hermanos, no deben ignorar que, delante del Señor, un día es como mil años y mil años como un día.
9 The Lord is not delaying his promise, as some imagine, but he does act patiently for your sake, not wanting anyone to perish, but wanting all to be turned back to penance.	9 El señor no tarda en cumplir lo que ha prometido, como algunos se imaginan, sino que tiene paciencia con ustedes porque no quiere que nadie perezca, sino que todos se conviertan.
10 Then the day of the Lord shall arrive like a thief. On that day, the heavens shall pass away with great violence, and truly the elements shall be dissolved with heat; then the earth, and the works that are within it, shall be completely burned up.	10 Sin embargo, el Día del Señor, llegará como un ladrón, y ese día, los cielos desaparecerán estrepitosamente; los elementos serán desintegrados por el fuego, y la tierra, con todo lo que hay en ella, será consumida.
11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what kind of people ought you to be? In behavior and in piety, be holy,	11 Ya que todas las cosas se desintegrarán de esa manera, ¡qué santa y piadosa debe ser la conducta de ustedes,
12 waiting for, and hurrying toward, the advent of the day of the Lord, by which the burning heavens shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt from the heat of the fire.	12 esperando y acelerando la venida del Día del Señor! Entonces se consumirán los cielos y los elementos quedarán fundidos por el fuego.
13 Yet truly, in accord with his promises, we are looking forward to the new heavens and the new earth, in which justice lives.	13 Pero nosotros, de acuerdo con la promesa del Señor, esperamos un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva donde habitará la justicia.
14 Therefore, most beloved, while awaiting these things, be diligent, so that you may be found to be immaculate and unassailable before him, in peace.	14 Por eso, queridos hermanos, mientras esperan esto, procuren vivir de tal manera que él los encuentre en paz, sin mancha ni reproche.
15 And let the longsuffering of our Lord be considered salvation, as also our most beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,	15 Tengan en cuenta que la paciencia del Señor es para nuestra salvación, como les ha escrito nuestro hermano Pablo, conforme a la sabiduría que le ha sido dada,
16 just as he also spoke in all of his epistles about these things. In these, there are certain things which are difficult to understand, which the unlearned and the unsteady distort, as they also do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.	16 y lo repite en todas las cartas donde trata este tema. En ellas hay pasajes difíciles de entender, que algunas personas ignorantes e inestables interpretan torcidamente –como, por otra parte, lo hacen con el resto de la Escritura– para su propia perdición.
17 But since you, brothers, know these things beforehand, be cautious, lest by being drawn into the error of the foolish, you may fall away from your own steadfastness.	17 Hermanos míos, ustedes están prevenidos. Manténganse en guardia, no sea que, arrastrados por el extravío de los que hacen el mal, pierdan su firmeza.
18 Yet truly, increase in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory, both now and in the day of eternity. Amen.	18 Crezcan en la gracia y en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. ¡A él sea la gloria, ahora y en la eternidad!
