Acts of the Apostles 14

CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
Now it happened in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and they spoke in such a way that a copious multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed.1 Εν δε τω Ικονιω εισελθοντες ομου εις την συναγωγην των Ιουδαιων, ελαλησαν ουτως ωστε επιστευσε πολυ πληθος Ιουδαιων τε και Ελληνων.
Yet truly, the Jews who were unbelieving had incited and enflamed the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers.2 Οσοι δε Ιουδαιοι δεν επειθοντο παρωξυναν και διεστρεψαν τας ψυχας των εθνικων κατα των αδελφων.
And so, they remained for a long time, acting faithfully in the Lord, offering testimony to the Word of his grace, providing signs and wonders done by their hands.3 Ικανον λοιπον καιρον διετριψαν λαλουντες μετα παρρησιας περι του Κυριου, οστις εμαρτυρει εις τον λογον της χαριτος αυτου, και εδιδε να γινωνται σημεια και τερατα δια των χειρων αυτων.
Then the multitude of the city was divided. And certainly, some were with the Jews, yet truly others were with the Apostles.4 Εσχισθη δε το πληθος της πολεως, και οι μεν ησαν μετα των Ιουδαιων, οι δε μετα των αποστολων.
Now when an assault had been planned by the Gentiles and the Jews with their leaders, so that they might treat them with contempt and stone them,5 Και οτε ωρμησαν οι εθνικοι και οι Ιουδαιοι μετα των αρχοντων αυτων εις το να υβρισωσι και να λιθοβολησωσιν αυτους,
they, realizing this, fled together to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the entire surrounding region. And they were evangelizing in that place.6 εννοησαντες κατεφυγον εις τας πολεις της Λυκαονιας Λυστραν και Δερβην και τα περιχωρα,
And a certain man was sitting at Lystra, disabled in his feet, lame from his mother’s womb, who had never walked.7 και εκει εκηρυττον το ευαγγελιον.
This man heard Paul speaking. And Paul, gazing at him intently, and perceiving that he had faith, so that he might be healed,8 Εν δε τοις Λυστροις εκαθητο ανηρ τις αδυνατος τους ποδας, χωλος υπαρχων εκ κοιλιας μητρος αυτου, οστις ποτε δεν ειχε περιπατησει.
said with a loud voice, “Stand upright upon your feet!” And he leaped up and walked around.9 Ουτος ηκουε τον Παυλον λαλουντα? οστις ατενισας εις αυτον και ιδων οτι εχει πιστιν δια να σωθη,
But when the crowds had seen what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice in the Lycaonian language, saying, “The gods, having taken the likenesses of men, have descended to us!”10 ειπε μετα μεγαλης φωνης? Σηκωθητι επι τους ποδας σου ορθος. Και επηδα και περιεπατει.
And they called Barnabas, ‘Jupiter,’ yet truly they called Paul, ‘Mercury,’ because he was the lead speaker.11 Οι δε οχλοι, ιδοντες τουτο το οποιον εκαμεν ο Παυλος, υψωσαν την φωνην αυτων, λεγοντες Λυκαονιστι? Οι θεοι ομοιωθεντες με ανθρωπους κατεβησαν προς ημας.
Also, the priest of Jupiter, who was outside the city, in front of the gate, bringing in oxen and garlands, was willing to offer sacrifice with the people.12 Και ωνομαζον τον μεν Βαρναβαν Δια, τον δε Παυλον Ερμην, επειδη αυτος ητο ο αρχηγος του λογου.
And as soon as the Apostles, Barnabas and Paul, had heard this, tearing their tunics, they leapt into the crowd, crying out13 Και ο ιερευς του Διος, του οντος εμπροσθεν της πολεως αυτων, εφερε ταυρους και στεμματα εις τας πυλας μετα του οχλου και ηθελε να προσφερη θυσιαν.
and saying: “Men, why would you do this? We also are mortals, men like yourselves, preaching to you to be converted, from these vain things, to the living God, who made heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them.14 Ακουσαντες δε οι αποστολοι Βαρναβας και Παυλος, διεσχισαν τα ιματια αυτων και επηδησαν εις το μεσον του οχλου, κραζοντες
In previous generations, he permitted all nations to walk in their own ways.15 και λεγοντες?
But certainly, he did not leave himself without testimony, doing good from heaven, giving rains and fruitful seasons, filling their hearts with food and gladness.”16 οστις εν ταις παρελθουσαις γενεαις αφηκε παντα τα εθνη να περιπατωσιν εν ταις οδοις αυτων.
And by saying these things, they were barely able to restrain the crowds from immolating to them.17 καιτοι δεν αφηκεν αμαρτυρητον εαυτον αγαθαποιων, διδων εις ημας ουρανοθεν βροχας και καιρους καρποφορους, γεμιζων τροφης και ευφροσυνης τας καρδιας ημων.
Now certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium arrived there. And having persuaded the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him outside of the city, thinking him to be dead.18 Και ταυτα λεγοντες μολις εμποδισαν τους οχλους, ωστε να μη προσφερωσι θυσιαν εις αυτους.
But as the disciples were standing around him, he got up and entered the city. And the next day, he set out with Barnabas for Derbe.19 Εν τουτω δε ηλθον Ιουδαιοι εξ Αντιοχειας και Ικονιου, και πεισαντες τους οχλους και λιθοβολησαντες τον Παυλον, εσυραν εξω της πολεως, νομισαντες οτι απεθανεν.
And when they had evangelized that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch,20 Οτε δε περιεκυκλωσαν αυτον οι μαθηται, σηκωθεις εισηλθεν εις την πολιν και τη επαυριον εξηλθε μετα του Βαρναβα εις Δερβην.
strengthening the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them that they should remain always in the faith, and that it is necessary for us to enter into the kingdom of God through many tribulations.21 Και αφου εκηρυξαν το ευαγγελιον εν τη πολει εκεινη και εμαθητευσαν ικανους, υπεστρεψαν εις την Λυστραν και Ικονιον και Αντιοχειαν,
And when they had established priests for them in each church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed.22 επιστηριζοντες τας ψυχας των μαθητων, προτρεποντες να εμμενωσιν εις την πιστιν, και διδασκοντες οτι δια πολλων θλιψεων πρεπει να εισελθωμεν εις την βασιλειαν του Θεου.
And traveling by way of Pisidia, they arrived in Pamphylia.23 Και αφου εχειροτονησαν εις αυτους πρεσβυτερους κατα πασαν εκκλησιαν, προσευχηθεντες με νηστειας, αφιερωσαν αυτους εις τον Κυριον, εις τον οποιον ειχον πιστευσει.
And having spoken the word of the Lord in Perga, they went down into Attalia.24 Και διελθοντες την Πισιδιαν ηλθον εις Παμφυλιαν,
And from there, they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had now accomplished.25 και κηρυξαντες τον λογον εν Περγη, κατεβησαν εις Ατταλειαν,
And when they had arrived and had gathered together the church, they related what great things God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.26 και εκειθεν απεπλευσαν εις Αντιοχειαν, οθεν ησαν παραδεδομενοι εις την χαριν του Θεου δια το εργον, το οποιον εξετελεσαν.
And they remained for no small amount of time with the disciples.27 Ελθοντες δε και συναξαντες την εκκλησιαν, ανηγγειλαν οσα εκαμεν ο Θεος δι' αυτων, και οτι ηνοιξεν εις τα εθνη θυραν πιστεως.
Και διετριβον εκει ουκ ολιγον καιρον μετα των μαθητων.
