Deuteronomy 4

1 “And now, O Israel, listen to the precepts and judgments which I am teaching to you, so that, by doing these, you may live, and you may enter and possess the land, which the Lord, the God of your fathers, will give to you.	1 Most pedig, Izrael, hallgass azokra a parancsokra és rendeletekre, amelyekre tanítalak, hogy megtartsd őket, s így élhess és elérhesd és birtokolhasd azt a földet, amelyet az Úr, atyáitok Istene majd nektek ad.
2 You shall not add to the word which I speak to you, neither shall you take away from it. Preserve the commandments of the Lord your God which I am teaching to you.	2 Ne tegyetek hozzá semmit se ahhoz az igéhez, amelyet hozzátok intézek, se el ne vegyetek belőle: tartsátok meg az Úrnak, a ti Isteneteknek parancsolatait, amelyeket parancsolok nektek.
3 Your eyes have seen all that the Lord has done against Baal-peor, in what manner he has crushed all of his worshippers from among you.	3 Tulajdon szemetek látta mindazt, amit az Úr Beelfegor miatt tett, hogy miképp veszített el mindenkit, aki annak hódolt közületek;
4 But you who adhere to the Lord your God are all still alive, to the present day.	4 ti pedig, akik ragaszkodtatok az Úrhoz, a ti Istenetekhez, mindannyian éltek mind a mai napig.
5 You know that I have taught you precepts as well as justices, just as the Lord my God has commanded me. And so shall you do in the land that you will possess.	5 Tudjátok, hogy parancsolatokra és rendeletekre tanítottalak titeket, amint az Úr, az én Istenem parancsolta nekem, hogy szerintük cselekedjetek azon a földön, amelyet elfoglalni készültök.
6 And you shall observe and fulfill these in practice. For this is your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the peoples, so that, upon hearing all these precepts, they may say: ‘Lo, a wise and understanding people, a great nation.’	6 Tartsátok meg tehát őket, és azok szerint cselekedjetek, mert ez lesz a ti bölcsességtek és értelmességtek bizonysága a népek előtt, hogy amikor meghallják mindezeket a parancsokat, azt mondják: ‘Íme, bölcs és értelmes nép ez a nagy nemzet.’
7 Neither is there any other nation so great, which has its gods so near to them, as our God is present to all our petitions.	7 Nincs is más ilyen nagy nemzet, amelyhez istenei olyan közel lennének, mint amilyen közel mihozzánk van a mi Urunk, Istenünk, valahányszor kérjük.
8 For what other nation is there so renowned as to have ceremonies, and just judgments, and the entire law that I will set forth today before your eyes?	8 Vagy melyik az a másik ilyen dicső nemzet, amelynek olyan szertartásai, olyan igazságos rendeletei lennének, mint ez az egész törvény, amelyet ma én szemetek elé tárok?
9 And so, guard yourself and your soul carefully. You should not forget the words that your eyes have seen, and do not let them be cut away from your heart, throughout all the days of your life. You shall teach them to your sons and to your grandsons,	9 Gondosan vigyázz tehát magadra és lelkedre: el ne feledd azokat a dolgokat, amelyeket tulajdon szemed látott, ne távozzanak szívedtől egész életedben, ismertesd meg őket fiaiddal s unokáiddal.
10 from the day on which you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when the Lord spoke to me, saying: ‘Gather the people to me, so that they may listen to my words, and may learn to fear me, throughout all the time that they are alive on earth, and so that they may teach their children.’	10 Meg ne feledkezzél arról a napról, amelyen az Úr, a te Istened előtt álltál a Hóreben, amikor az Úr szólt hozzám és mondta: ‘Gyűjtsd elém a népet, hogy hallják szavaimat, s megtanuljanak félni engem minden időben, míg a földön élnek, s fiaikat is megtanítsák rá.’
11 And you approached the base of the mountain, which was burning even toward heaven. And there was a darkness upon it, and a cloud, and a mist.	11 Erre ti odajárultatok a hegy tövéhez: s az égett mind az égig és sötétség, felhő és homály volt rajta.
12 And the Lord spoke to you from the midst of fire. You heard the voice of his words, but you did not see any form at all.	12 Ekkor szólt hozzátok az Úr a tűz közepéből, szavak hangzását hallottátok, de alakot egyáltalában nem láttatok.
13 And he revealed his covenant to you, which he instructed you to carry out, and the ten words which he wrote on two tablets of stone.	13 Így hirdette ki nektek szövetségét, amelynek teljesítését nektek megparancsolta: a tíz igét, amelyet ráírt két kőtáblára.
14 And he commanded me, at that time, that I should teach you the ceremonies and judgments which you must carry out, in the land that you shall possess.	14 Ugyanakkor nekem megparancsolta, hogy tanítsalak meg titeket azokra a szertartásokra és rendeletekre, amelyeket meg kell tennetek azon a földön, amelyet elfoglalni készültök.
15 And so, guard your souls carefully. You saw no likeness on the day that the Lord God spoke to you on Horeb from the midst of fire.	15 Gondosan vigyázzatok tehát lelketekre! Nem láttatok semmiféle alakot sem azon a napon, amelyen szólt hozzátok az Úr a Hóreben a tűz közepéből!
16 Otherwise, perhaps being deceived, you might have made a graven image, or an image of male or female,	16 Meg ne tévedjetek tehát valahogy, és ne csináljatok magatoknak valamilyen faragott hasonmást, képmást férfiról vagy asszonyról,
17 a likeness of any of the beasts, which are upon the earth, or of birds, which fly under heaven,	17 hasonmást valamilyen állatról, amely a földön van, vagy madárról, amely az ég alatt repül,
18 or of reptiles, which move across the earth, or of fish, which abide in the waters under the earth.	18 vagy csúszómászóról, amely a földön mozog, vagy halról, amely a föld alatt, a vízben van.
19 Otherwise, perhaps lifting up your eyes to heaven, you might look upon the sun and the moon and all the stars of heaven, and being deceived by error, you might adore and worship these things, which the Lord your God created for the service of all the nations, which are under heaven.	19 Ha felemeled szemedet az égre és látod a napot, a holdat s az ég minden csillagát, meg ne ejtsen valahogy a tévedés és ne imádd és ne tiszteld őket! Ezeket az Úr, a te Istened mindazoknak a népeknek a szolgálatára teremtette, amelyek az ég alatt vannak.
20 But the Lord has taken you up, and led you away from the iron furnaces of Egypt, in order to have a people of inheritance, just as it is to the present day.	20 Titeket azonban vett az Úr, és kihozott Egyiptom vaskohójából, hogy tulajdon népévé legyetek, mint ahogy az a mai napon meg is van.
21 And the Lord became angry against me because of your words, and he swore that I would not cross over the Jordan, nor enter into the excellent land, which he will give to you.	21 Rám megharagudott az Úr a ti dolgaitok miatt, s megesküdött, hogy nem megyek át a Jordánon, s nem jutok be arra az igen jó földre, amelyet nektek fog adni.
22 Behold, I shall die on this soil. I shall not cross over the Jordan. You shall cross it, and you shall possess the singular land.	22 Íme, meghalok ezen a földön, nem megyek át a Jordánon: ti átmentek, s elfoglaljátok azt a kiváló földet.
23 Be careful, lest you at sometime forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he has formed with you, and lest you make for yourselves a graven likeness of those things which the Lord has prohibited to be made.	23 Vigyázz, hogy soha meg ne feledkezz az Úr, a te Istened szövetségéről, amelyet veled kötött, és ahogy az Úr megtiltotta neked, ne készíts faragott képmást semmiről,
24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.	24 mert az Úr, a te Istened emésztő tűz, féltékeny Isten.
25 When you will have conceived sons and grandsons while abiding in the land, and if, having been deceived, you make for yourselves any likeness, accomplishing evil in the sight of the Lord your God, so as to provoke him to wrath,	25 Ha majd fiakat és unokákat nemzetek, és ott tartózkodtok azon a földön, s megtévedtek, s valamilyen képmást csináltok magatoknak, s így azt cselekszitek, ami gonosz az Úr, a ti Istenetek előtt, hogy őt haragra ingereljétek.
26 I call heaven and earth as witnesses this day, that you shall quickly perish from the land, which, when you have crossed over the Jordan, you will possess. You will not live in it for a long time; instead, the Lord will destroy you.	26 Bizonyságul hívom fel ma az eget és a földet, hogy hamarosan elvesztek arról a földről, amelynek elfoglalására átkeltek a Jordánon. Nem laktok rajta hosszú ideig, hanem eltöröl róla az Úr titeket.
27 And he will scatter you among all the nations, and few of you will remain among those nations, to which the Lord will lead you.	27 Szétszór minden nép közé, és csak kevesen maradtok meg azok között a nemzetek között, amelyek közé az Úr elvisz majd titeket.
28 And there, you will serve gods which were fabricated by the hands of men: gods of wood and of stone, who neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.	28 Ott aztán szolgálni fogtok emberi kéz alkotta isteneknek, fának és kőnek, amelyek nem látnak, nem hallanak, nem esznek és nem szagolnak.
29 And when you will seek the Lord your God in that place, you shall find him, if only you seek him with all your heart, and in all the tribulation of your soul.	29 Ha azonban majd keresed ott az Urat, a te Istenedet, megtalálod őt, feltéve, hogy egész szívedből és lelked egész eltökéltségével keresed.
30 After all these things which have been foretold have found you, in the end time, you shall return to the Lord your God, and you will hear his voice.	30 Miután utolért téged mindaz, amit az előbb mondtam, az utolsó időben visszatérsz az Úrhoz, a te Istenedhez és hallgatni fogsz szavára.
31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not abandon you, nor will he entirely destroy you, nor will he forget the covenant, which he swore to your fathers.	31 Irgalmas Isten ugyanis az Úr, a te Istened nem hagy el téged, s nem töröl el teljesen, s nem feledkezik meg arról a szövetségről, amelyre atyáitoknak megesküdött.
32 Inquire concerning the days of antiquity, which were before you, from the day when God created man upon the earth, from one end of heaven to another, if anything similar has ever occurred, or whether any such thing has ever been known,	32 Kérdezősködj csak a régi napok felől, amelyek te előtted voltak, attól a naptól kezdve, hogy Isten megteremtette az embert a földön – kérdezősködj az ég egyik szélétől a másikig, történt-e valaha ilyesfajta dolog, vagy lehetett-e hallani,
33 that a people would hear the voice of God, speaking from the midst of fire, just as you have heard it, and live,	33 hogy hallja egy nép Isten szavát, aki a tűz közepéből szól, mint ahogy te hallottad, s életben maradtál!
34 whether God has acted so as to enter and take for himself a nation from the midst of the nations, by means of tests, signs, and wonders, by means of fighting, and a strong hand, and an outstretched arm, and terrible visions, in accord with all the things which the Lord your God has accomplished for you in Egypt, in the sight of your eyes.	34 Vagy hogy megtette-e Isten, hogy elmegy és nemzetet választ magának a nemzetek közül próbák, jelek, csodák, harc, erős kéz, kinyújtott kar és rettenetes látványok által, mindent aszerint, amit tiértetek tett az Úr, a ti Istenetek Egyiptomban, szemed láttára,
35 So may you know that the Lord himself is God, and there is no other beside him.	35 hogy megtudd, hogy az Úr az Isten, s rajta kívül nincs más.
36 He has caused you to hear his voice from heaven, so that he might teach you. And he showed you his exceedingly great fire on earth, and you heard his words from the midst of the fire.	36 Az égből szavát hallatta veled, hogy oktasson téged, a földön megmutatta neked felette nagy tüzét, s hallottad igéit a tűz közepéből,
37 For he loved your fathers, and he chose their offspring after them. And he led you away from Egypt, advancing before you with his great power,	37 mivel szerette atyáidat, s kiválasztotta utódaikat. Éppen azért az ő nagy erejével kihozott téged Egyiptomból, s előtted járt,
38 so as to wipe away, upon your arrival, nations, very great and stronger than you, and so as to lead you in, and to present to you their land as a possession, just as you discern in the present day.	38 hogy igen nagy, s nálad erősebb nemzeteket eltöröljön utadból, s téged bevigyen helyükre és neked adja földjüket birtokul, mint ahogy azt ma is láthatod.
39 Therefore, know on this day and consider in your heart, that the Lord himself is God in heaven above, and on earth below, and there is no other.	39 Ismerd el tehát ma, és vésd a szívedbe, hogy az Úr az Isten fönn az égben és lenn a földön és senki más!
40 Keep his precepts and commandments, which I am teaching to you, so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, and so that you may remain for a long time upon the land, which the Lord your God will give to you.”	40 Tartsd meg parancsait és rendeleteit, amelyeket parancsolok neked, hogy jó dolgod legyen neked, s utánad fiaidnak és hosszú ideig maradhass azon a földön, amelyet az Úr, a te Istened majd ad neked.«
41 Then Moses set aside three cities, across the Jordan toward the eastern region,	41 Ekkor Mózes kiválasztott három várost a Jordánon túl, a keleti oldalon,
42 so that anyone might flee to these if he has killed his neighbor unwillingly, who was not his enemy a day or two earlier, and so that he would be able to escape to one of these cities:	42 hogy aki felebarátját akaratlanul, s a nélkül, hogy neki egy s más nap előtt az ellensége lett volna, megölte, oda menekülhessen, s e városok egyikében menedéket találhasson:
43 Bezer in the wilderness, which is situated in the plains of the tribe of Ruben; and Ramoth in Gilead, which is in the tribe of Gad; and Golan in Bashan, which is in the tribe of Manasseh.	43 Bószort a pusztában, a sík földön, Rúben törzsében, továbbá Rámótot, Gileádban, Gád törzsében és Gólánt Básánban, Manassze törzsében.
44 This is the law, which Moses set forth before the sons of Israel.	44 Ez az a törvény, amelyet Mózes Izrael fiai elé terjesztett,
45 And these are the testimonies and ceremonies as well as judgments, which he spoke to the sons of Israel, when they departed from Egypt,	45 s ezek azok a bizonyságok, szertartások és rendeletek, amelyeket Izrael fiainak elmondott, amikor kijöttek Egyiptomból,
46 across the Jordan, in the valley opposite the shrine of Peor, in the land of Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses struck down. Accordingly, the sons of Israel, having departed from Egypt,	46 a Jordánon túl, a völgyben, Fogor házával szemben, Szihonnak, az amoriták királyának földjén, aki Hesebonban lakott, s akit Mózes megvert. Amikor ugyanis Izrael fiai kijöttek Egyiptomból,
47 possessed his land, and the land of Og, the king of Bashan, the land of the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, toward the rising of the sun:	47 elfoglalták az ő földjét meg Ógnak, Básán királyának a földjét – az amoriták két királyáét, akik a Jordánon túl, a keleti oldalon voltak –
48 from Aroer, which is situated above the bank of the torrent Arnon, as far as Mount Zion, which is also called Hermon,	48 Ároertől kezdve, amely az Arnon patak partján fekszik, egészen a Szion hegyig, vagyis a Hermonig,
49 the entire plain across the Jordan, from its eastern region, as far as the sea of the wilderness, and even to the base of Mount Pisgah.	49 meg az egész Síkságot a Jordánon túl, a keleti oldalon, egészen a Puszta tengeréig, a Piszga hegy tövéig.
