Deuteronomy 32

1 “Listen, O heavens, to what I am saying. Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.	1 «Escucha, cielo, y hablaré. oiga la tierra las palabras de mi boca.
2 Let my doctrine accumulate like the rain. Let my eloquence form like the dew, like a mist upon the plants, and like water droplets upon the grass.	2 Que mi enseñanza descienda como lluvia y mi palabra caiga como rocío, como aguacero sobre la hierba, como chaparrones sobre el pasto
3 For I will invoke the name of the Lord. Acknowledge the magnificence of our God!	3 Yo voy a proclamar el nombre del Señor: ¡den gloria a nuestro Dios!
4 The works of God are perfect, and all his ways are judgments. God is faithful and without any iniquity. He is just and upright.	4 El es la Roca: su obra es perfecta, todos sus caminos son justos; es un Dios fiel y sin falsedad, justiciero y recto.
5 They have sinned against him, and in their filth they are not his sons. They are a depraved and perverse generation.	5 Pero se comportaron mal con él los que ya no son sus hijos, a causa de su depravación. esa generación tortuosa y perversa.
6 How can this be the return you would offer to the Lord, O foolish and senseless people? Is he himself not your Father, who has possessed you, and made you, and created you?	6 ¿Así le pagas al Señor, pueblo necio e insensato? ¿Acaso él no es tu padre y tu creador, el que te hizo y te afianzó?
7 Remember the days of antiquity. Consider each generation. Question your father, and he will declare it to you. Question your elders, and they will tell it to you.	7 Acuérdate de los días lejanos, considera las épocas pasadas; pregúntale a tu padre, y él te informará, a los ancianos, y ellos te lo dirán:
8 When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated the sons of Adam, he appointed the limits of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.	8 Cuando el Altísimo dio una herencia a cada nación, cuando distribuyó a los hombres, él fijó las fronteras de los pueblos según el número de los hijos de Dios.
9 But the Lord’s portion is his people: Jacob, the lot of his inheritance.	9 Pero la parte del Señor es su pueblo. la porción de su herencia es Jacob.
10 He discovered him in a desert land, in a place of horror and a vast wilderness. He led him around and taught him, and he guarded him like the pupil of his eye,	10 Lo encontró en una tierra desierta. en la soledad rugiente de la estepa: lo rodeó y lo cuidó. lo protegió como a la pupila de sus ojos.
11 just as an eagle encourages its young to fly, and, flying above them, stretches out its wings, and takes them up, and carries them on its shoulders.	11 Como el águila que impulsa a su nidada. revoloteando sobre sus pichones. así extendió sus alas, lo tomó y lo llevó sobre sus plumas.
12 The Lord alone was his leader, and there was no strange god with him.	12 El Señor solo lo condujo, no había a su lado ningún dios extranjero.
13 He stood him upon an exalted land, so that he might eat the fruits of the fields, so that he might eat honey from the rock, and oil from the hardest stone,	13 Lo puso encima de las alturas del país, para que comiera los frutos de los campos; lo alimentó con miel de los peñascos, con aceite de la roca dura;
14 butter from the herd, and milk from the sheep, with fat from the lambs, and with rams and goats from the sons of Bashan, with the kernel of the wheat, and so that he might drink the undiluted blood of the grape.	14 con cuajada de vaca y leche de oveja, con la gordura de corderos y cameros; con toros de Basán y con cabritos, y con la mejor harina de trigo; y le dio como bebida, la sangre espumante de la uva.
15 The beloved grew fat, and he kicked. Having grown fat and thick and wide, he abandoned God, his Maker, and he withdrew from God, his Savior.	15 Así engordó lesurún y dio patadas –¡sí, engordaste, te pusiste obeso y corpulento!–. El rechazó al Dios que lo creó, despreció a su Roca salvadora.
16 They provoked him with strange gods, and they stirred him to anger by their abominations.	16 Provocaron sus celos con dioses extraños, lo irritaron con abominaciones.
17 They immolated to demons and not to God, to gods whom they did not know, who were new and recent arrivals, whom their fathers did not worship.	17 Ofrecieron sacrificios a demonios que no son Dios. a dioses que no conocían, a dioses nuevos, recién llegados, que sus padres no habían venerado.
18 You have forsaken the God who conceived you, and you have forgotten the Lord who created you.	18 Así despreciaste a la Roca que te engendró. olvidaste al Dios que te hizo nacer.
19 The Lord saw, and he was stirred to anger. For his own sons and daughters provoked him.	19 Al ver esto, el Señor se indignó y desechó a sus hijos y a sus hijas.
20 And he said: ‘I will hide my face from them, and I will consider their very end. For this is a perverse generation, and they are unfaithful sons.	20 Entonces dijo: Les ocultaré mi rostro, para ver en qué terminan. Porque son una generación perversa, hijos faltos de lealtad.
21 They have provoked me with that which was not God, and they have angered me with their emptiness. And so, I will provoke them with that which is not a people, and I will anger them with a foolish nation.	21 Provocaron mis celos con algo que no es Dios. me irritaron con sus ídolos vanos; yo provocaré sus celos con algo que no es un pueblo, los irritaré con una nación insensata
22 A fire has been kindled in my fury, and it will burn even to the deepest Hell, and it will devour the earth with its produce, and it will burn the foundations of the mountains.	22 Porque se ha encendido el fuego de mi ira y arderá hasta el fondo del abismo; consumirá la tierra y sus cosechas y abrasará los cimientos de las montañas.
23 I will heap evils upon them, and I will expend my arrows among them.	23 Amontonaré desastres sobre ellos, lanzaré contra ellos todas mis flechas.
24 They will be consumed by famine, and birds with a very bitter bite will devour them. I will send forth the teeth of wild beasts among them, along with the fury of creatures that scurry across the ground, and of serpents.	24 Quedarán extenuados por el hambre, consumidos por la fiebre y la peste maligna; enviaré contra ellos los dientes de las fieras y el veneno de reptiles que se arrastran sobre el polvo.
25 Outside, the sword will devastate them; and inside, there will be dread, as much for the young man as for the maiden, and as much for the newborn as for the old man.	25 Afuera los diezmará la espada. y adentro, el terror. tanto al joven como a la muchacha, al niño de pecho como al anciano.
26 I said: Where are they? I will cause their memory to cease from among men.	26 Yo me propuse reducirlos a polvo y borrar su recuerdo de entre los hombres,
27 But because of the wrath of the enemies, I have delayed it. Otherwise, perhaps their enemies would be arrogant and would say: “Our exalted hand, and not the Lord, has done all these things.”	27 pero temí que sus enemigos se jactaran, que cayeran en el error y dijeran: «Nuestra mano ha prevalecido, no es el Señor el que hizo todo esto».
28 They are a nation without counsel and without prudence.	28 Porque esa gente ha perdido el juicio y carece de inteligencia.
29 I wish that they would be wise and understanding, and would provide for the very end.’	29 Si fueran sensatos entenderían estas cosas. comprenderán la suerte que les espera
30 How is it that one pursues a thousand, and two chases ten thousand? Is it not because their God has sold them, and because the Lord has enclosed them?	30 ¿Cómo podría uno solo desbandar a mil y dos, poner en fuga a diez mil, si su Roca no los hubiera vendido y el Señor no los hubiera entregado?
31 For our God is not like their gods. And our enemies are judges.	31 Porque la roca de ellos no es como nuestra Roca: nuestros mismos enemigos lo confirman.
32 Their vines are of the vines of Sodom, but from the suburbs of Gomorrah. Their grapes are the grapes of gall, and their grape clusters are most bitter.	32 Su viña es un retoño de la viña de Sodoma. de las plantaciones de Gomorra. Sus uvas son uvas venenosas. sus racimos tienen un sabor amargo.
33 Their wine is the gall of snakes, and it is the incurable venom of asps.	33 Su vino es veneno de serpientes, un terrible veneno de víboras.
34 ‘Have not these things been stored up with me, and sealed up amid my treasures?	34 ¿Acaso no está esto registrado y sellado en mis archivos?
35 Vengeance is mine, and I will repay them in due time, so that their foot may slip and fall. The day of perdition is near, and the time rushes to appear.’	35 Mía será la venganza y la retribución en el momento que vacilen sus pies, porque está cerca el día de su ruina y ya se precipita el desenlace.
36 The Lord will judge his people, and he will take pity on his servants. He will see that their hand has been weakened, and that those who have been enclosed have likewise failed, and that those who have been left behind have been consumed.	36 Sí, el Señor hará justicia con su pueblo y tendrá compasión de sus servidores. Cuando vea que sus manos flaquean y ya no quedan esclavos ni hombres libres,
37 And he shall say: ‘Where are their gods, in whom they had confidence?	37 él dirá: ¿Dónde están sus dioses, la roca donde buscaron un refugio
38 They ate the fat of their victims, and they drank the wine of their libations. So let these rise up, and bring relief to you, and protect you in your distress.	38 los que comían la grasa de sus sacrificios y bebían el vino de sus libaciones? Que se levanten y vengan en su ayuda, que sean para ustedes un refugio.
39 See that I am alone, and there is no other god beside me. I will kill, and I will cause to live. I will strike, and I will heal. And there is no one who is able to rescue from my hand.	39 Miren bien que yo, sólo yo soy, y no hay otro dios junto a mí. Yo doy la muerte y la vida. yo hiero y doy la salud. y no hay nadie que libre de mi mano
40 I will lift up my hand to heaven, and I will say: I live in eternity.	40 Yo levanto mi mano hacia el cielo y juro: Tan cierto como que vivo eternamente,
41 When I sharpen my sword like lightning, and my hand takes hold of judgment, then I will render vengeance to my enemies, and I will repay those who hate me.	41 cuando afile mi espada fulgurante y mi mano empuñe la justicia, me vengaré de mis enemigos y daré su merecido a mis adversarios.
42 I will inebriate my arrows with blood, and my sword will devour flesh: from the blood of the slain and from the captive, from the exposed head of the enemies.’	42 Embriagaré mis flechas con sangre mi espada devorará carne: sangre de muertos y cautivos, cabezas de jefes enemigos.
43 You nations, praise his people! For he will avenge the blood of his servants. And he will distribute vengeance to their enemies. And he will be merciful to the land of his people.”	43 Naciones, aclamen a su pueblo, porque él vengará la sangre de sus servidores, se vengará de sus enemigos y purificará su tierra y su pueblo».
44 Therefore, Moses went and spoke all the words of this canticle to the ears of the people, both he and Joshua, the son of Nun.	44 Moisés fue con Josué, hijo de Nun, y recitó delante del pueblo todas las palabras de este poema.
45 And he completed all these words, speaking to all of Israel.	45 Cuando Moisés terminó de recitar estas palabras a todo Israel,
46 And he said to them: “Set your hearts upon all the words which I am testifying to you this day. So shall you command your sons, to keep, and to do, and to fulfill all the things that have been written in this law.	46 les dijo: «Presten atención a todas las palabras de esta Ley, con las que hoy atestiguo contra ustedes. Prescríbanselas a sus hijos, para que ellos practiquen cuidadosamente todas las palabras de esta Ley.
47 For these things have not been entrusted to you to no purpose, but so that each one would live by them, and so that, in doing these, you may continue for a long time in the land, which you will enter upon crossing the Jordan in order to possess it.”	47 Porque esta no es una palabra vana, sino que es la vida de ustedes, y por ella vivirán muchos años en la tierra que van a poseer después que crucen el Jordán».
48 And the Lord spoke to Moses on the same day, saying:	48 Aquel mismo día, el Señor dijo a Moisés:
49 “Ascend this mountain, Abarim, (that is, of crossings) onto Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho, and look upon the land of Canaan, which I will deliver to the sons of Israel to obtain it. And you shall die upon the mountain.	49 «Sube a esa montaña de los Abarím, al monte Nebo que está en el país de Moab, frente a Jericó, y contempla la tierra de Canaán que yo doy en propiedad a los israelitas.
50 After climbing it, you will be joined to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor, and was placed with his people.	50 Tú morirás en la montaña a la que vas a subir e irás a reunirte con los tuyos, como tu hermano Aarón murió en el monte Hor y fue a reunirse con los suyos.
51 For you trespassed against me in the midst of the sons of Israel, at the Waters of Contradiction, in Kadesh, in the desert of Sin. And you did not sanctify me among the sons of Israel.	51 Porque ustedes fueron infieles a mí junto a las aguas de Meribá de Cades, en el desierto de Sin, y no manifestaron mi santidad en medio de los israelitas.
52 You shall see the land opposite you, which I will give to the sons of Israel, but you shall not enter into it.”	52 Por eso no entrarás en la tierra que yo daré a los israelitas, sino que solamente la verás de lejos».
