CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
And after six days, Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John; and he led them separately to a lofty mountain alone; and he was transfigured before them.1 Y les decía: «Les aseguro que algunos de los que están aquí presentes no morirán antes de haber visto que el Reino de Dios ha llegado con poder».
And his vestments became radiant and exceedingly white like snow, with such a brilliance as no fuller on earth is able to achieve.2 Seis días después, Jesús tomó a Pedro, Santiago y Juan, y los llevo a ellos solos a un monte elevado. Allí se transfiguró en presencia de ellos.
And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were speaking with Jesus.3 Sus vestiduras se volvieron resplandecientes, tan blancas como nadie en el mundo podría blanquearlas.
And in response, Peter said to Jesus: “Master, it is good for us to be here. And so let us make three tabernacles, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”4 Y se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, conversando con Jesús.
For he did not know what he was saying. For they were overwhelmed by fear.5 Pedro dijo a Jesús: «Maestro, ¡qué bien estamos aquí! Hagamos tres carpas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías».
And there was a cloud overshadowing them. And a voice came from the cloud, saying: “This is my most beloved Son. Listen to him.”6 Pedro no sabía qué decir, porque estaban llenos de temor.
And immediately, looking around, they no longer saw anyone, except Jesus alone with them.7 Entonces una nube los cubrió con su sombra, y salió de ella una voz: «Este es mi Hijo muy querido, escúchenlo».
And as they were descending from the mountain, he instructed them not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until after the Son of man will have risen again from the dead.8 De pronto miraron a su alrededor y no vieron a nadie, sino a Jesús solo con ellos.
And they kept the word to themselves, arguing about what “after he will have risen from the dead” might mean.9 Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les prohibió contar lo que habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de entre los muertos.
And they questioned him, saying: “Then why do the Pharisees and the scribes say that Elijah must arrive first?”10 Ellos cumplieron esta orden, pero se preguntaban qué significará «resucitar de entre los muertos».
And in response, he said to them: “Elijah, when he will arrive first, shall restore all things. And in the manner that it has been written about the Son of man, so must he suffer many things and be condemned.11 Y le hicieron esta pregunta: «¡Por qué dicen los escribas que antes debe venir Elías?».
But I say to you, that Elijah also has arrived, (and they have done to him whatever they wanted) just as it has been written about him.”12 Jesús les respondió: «Sí, Elías debe venir antes para restablecer el orden en todo. Pero, ¿no dice la Escritura que el Hijo del hombre debe sufrir mucho y ser despreciado?
And approaching his disciples, he saw a great crowd surrounding them, and the scribes were arguing with them.13 Les aseguro que Elías ya ha venido e hicieron con él lo que quisieron, como estaba escrito».
And soon all the people, seeing Jesus, were astonished and struck with fear, and hurrying to him, they greeted him.14 Cuando volvieron a donde estaban los otros discípulos, los encontraron en medio de una gran multitud, discutiendo con algunos escribas.
And he questioned them, “What are you arguing about among yourselves?”15 En cuanto la multitud distinguió a Jesús, quedó asombrada y corrieron a saludarlo.
And one from the crowd responded by saying: “Teacher, I have brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit.16 El les preguntó: «¿Sobre qué estaban discutiendo?».
And whenever it takes hold of him, it throws him down, and he foams and gnashes with his teeth, and he becomes unconscious. And I asked your disciples to cast him out, and they could not.”17 Uno de ellos le dijo: «Maestro, te he traído a mi hijo, que está poseído de un espíritu mudo.
And answering them, he said: “O unbelieving generation, how long must I be with you? How long shall I endure you? Bring him to me.”18 Cuando se apodera de él, lo tira al suelo y le hace echar espuma por la boca; entonces le crujen sus dientes y se queda rígido. Le pedí a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran pero no pudieron».
And they brought him. And when he had seen him, immediately the spirit disturbed him. And having been thrown to the ground, he rolled around foaming.19 «Generación incrédula, respondió Jesús, ¿hasta cuando estaré con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuando tendré que soportarlos? Tráiganmelo».
And he questioned his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” But he said: “From infancy.20 Y ellos se lo trajeron. En cuanto vio a Jesús, el espíritu sacudió violentamente al niño, que cayó al suelo y se revolcaba, echando espuma por la boca.
And often it casts him into fire or into water, in order to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, help us and take pity on us.”21 Jesús le preguntó al padre: «¿Cuánto tiempo hace que está así?». «Desde la infancia, le respondió,
But Jesus said to him, “If you are able to believe: all things are possible to one who believes.”22 y a menudo lo hace caer en el fuego o en el agua para matarlo. Si puedes hacer algo, ten piedad de nosotros y ayúdanos».
And immediately the father of the boy, crying out with tears, said: “I do believe, Lord. Help my unbelief.”23 «¡Si puedes...!», respondió Jesús. «Todo es posible para el que cree».
And when Jesus saw the crowd rushing together, he admonished the unclean spirit, saying to him, “Deaf and mute spirit, I command you, leave him; and do not enter into him anymore.”24 Inmediatamente el padre del niño exclamó: «Creo, ayúdame porque tengo poca fe».
And crying out, and convulsing him greatly, he departed from him. And he became like one who is dead, so much so that many said, “He is dead.”25 Al ver que llegaba más gente, Jesús increpó al espíritu impuro, diciéndole: «Espíritu mudo y sordo, yo te lo ordeno, sal de él y no vuelvas más».
But Jesus, taking him by the hand, lifted him up. And he arose.26 El demonio gritó, sacudió violentamente al niño y salió de él, dejándolo como muerto, tanto que muchos decían: «Está muerto».
And when he had entered into the house, his disciples questioned him privately, “Why were we unable to cast him out?”27 Pero Jesús, tomándolo de la mano, lo levantó, y el niño se puso de pie.
And he said to them, “This kind is able to be expelled by nothing other than prayer and fasting.”28 Cuando entró a la casa y quedaron solos, los discípulos le preguntaron: «¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsarlo?».
And setting out from there, they passed through Galilee. And he intended that no one know about it.29 El les respondió: «Esta clase de demonios se expulsa sólo con la oración».
Then he taught his disciples, and he said to them, “For the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and having been killed, on the third day he will rise again.”30 Al salir de allí atravesaron la Galilea; Jesús no quería que nadie lo supiera,
But they did not understand the word. And they were afraid to question him.31 porque enseñaba y les decía: «El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres; lo matarán y tres días después de su muerte, resucitará».
And they went to Capernaum. And when they were in the house, he questioned them, “What did you discuss on the way?”32 Pero los discípulos no comprendían esto y temían hacerle preguntas.
But they were silent. For indeed, on the way, they had disputed among themselves as to which of them was greater.33 Llegaron a Cafarnaúm y, una vez que estuvieron en la casa, les preguntó: «¿De qué hablaban en el camino?».
And sitting down, he called the twelve, and he said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be the last of all and the minister of all.”34 Ellos callaban, porque habían estado discutiendo sobre quién era el más grande.
And taking a child, he set him in their midst. And when he had embraced him, he said to them:35 Entonces, sentándose, llamó a los Doce y les dijo: «El que quiere ser el primero, debe hacerse el último de todos y el servidor de todos».
“Whoever receives one such child in my name, receives me. And whoever receives me, receives not me, but him who sent me.”36 Después, tomando a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos y, abrazándolo, les dijo:
John responded to him by saying, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name; he does not follow us, and so we prohibited him.”37 «El que recibe a uno de estos pequeños en mi Nombre, me recibe a mí, y el que me recibe, no es a mí al que recibe, sino a aquel que me ha enviado».
But Jesus said: “Do not prohibit him. For there is no one who can act with virtue in my name and soon speak evil about me.38 Juan le dijo: «Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu Nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo porque no es de los nuestros».
For whoever is not against you is for you.39 Pero Jesús les dijo: «No se lo impidan, porque nadie puede hacer un milagro en mi Nombre y luego hablar mal de mí.
For whoever, in my name, will give you a cup of water to drink, because you belong to Christ: Amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.40 Y el que no está contra nosotros, está con nosotros.
And whoever will have scandalized one of these little ones who believe in me: it would be better for him if a great millstone were placed around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.41 Les aseguro que no quedará sin recompensa el que les dé de beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que ustedes pertenecen a Cristo.
And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life disabled, than having two hands to go into Hell, into the unquenchable fire,42 Si alguien llegara a escandalizar a uno de estos pequeños que tienen fe, sería preferible para él que le ataran al cuello una piedra de moler y lo arrojaran al mar.
where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.43 Si tu mano es para ti ocasión de pecado, córtala, porque más te vale entrar en la Vida manco, que ir con tus dos manos a la Gehena, al fuego inextinguible.
But if your foot causes you to sin, chop it off: it is better for you to enter into eternal life lame, than having two feet to be cast into the Hell of unquenchable fire,
where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.45 Y si tu pie es para ti ocasión de pecado, córtalo, porque más te vale entrar lisiado en la Vida, que ser arrojado con tus dos pies a la Gehena.
But if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out: it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into the Hell of fire,
where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.47 Y si tu ojo es para ti ocasión de pecado, arráncalo, porque más te vale entrar con un solo ojo en el Reino de Dios, que ser arrojado con tus dos ojos a la Gehena,
For all shall be salted with fire, and every victim shall be salted with salt.48 donde el gusano no muere y el fuego no se apaga.
Salt is good: but if the salt has become bland, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace among yourselves.”49 Porque cada uno será salado por el fuego.
