1 And they went across the strait of the sea into the region of the Gerasenes.	1 Giunsero all’altra riva del mare, nel paese dei Gerasèni.
2 And as he was departing from the boat, he was immediately met, from among the tombs, by a man with an unclean spirit,	2 Sceso dalla barca, subito dai sepolcri gli venne incontro un uomo posseduto da uno spirito impuro.
3 who had his dwelling place with the tombs; neither had anyone been able to bind him, even with chains.	3 Costui aveva la sua dimora fra le tombe e nessuno riusciva a tenerlo legato, neanche con catene,
4 For having been bound often with shackles and chains, he had broken the chains and smashed the shackles; and no one had been able to tame him.	4 perché più volte era stato legato con ceppi e catene, ma aveva spezzato le catene e spaccato i ceppi, e nessuno riusciva più a domarlo.
5 And he was always, day and night, among the tombs, or in the mountains, crying out and cutting himself with stones.	5 Continuamente, notte e giorno, fra le tombe e sui monti, gridava e si percuoteva con pietre.
6 And seeing Jesus from afar, he ran and adored him.	6 Visto Gesù da lontano, accorse, gli si gettò ai piedi
7 And crying out with a loud voice, he said: “What am I to you, Jesus, the Son of the Most High God? I beseech you by God, that you not torment me.”	7 e, urlando a gran voce, disse: «Che vuoi da me, Gesù, Figlio del Dio altissimo? Ti scongiuro, in nome di Dio, non tormentarmi!».
8 For he said to him, “Depart from the man, you unclean spirit.”	8 Gli diceva infatti: «Esci, spirito impuro, da quest’uomo!».
9 And he questioned him: “What is your name?” And he said to him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.”	9 E gli domandò: «Qual è il tuo nome?». «Il mio nome è Legione – gli rispose – perché siamo in molti».
10 And he entreated him greatly, so that he would not expel him from the region.	10 E lo scongiurava con insistenza perché non li cacciasse fuori dal paese.
11 And in that place, near the mountain, there was a great herd of swine, feeding.	11 C’era là, sul monte, una numerosa mandria di porci al pascolo.
12 And the spirits entreated him, saying: “Send us into the swine, so that we may enter into them.”	12 E lo scongiurarono: «Mandaci da quei porci, perché entriamo in essi».
13 And Jesus promptly gave them permission. And the unclean spirits, departing, entered into the swine. And the herd of about two thousand rushed down with great force into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea.	13 Glielo permise. E gli spiriti impuri, dopo essere usciti, entrarono nei porci e la mandria si precipitò giù dalla rupe nel mare; erano circa duemila e affogarono nel mare.
14 Then those who pastured them fled, and they reported it in the city and in the countryside. And they all went out to see what was happening.	14 I loro mandriani allora fuggirono, portarono la notizia nella città e nelle campagne e la gente venne a vedere che cosa fosse accaduto.
15 And they came to Jesus. And they saw the man who had been troubled by the demon, sitting, clothed and with a sane mind, and they were afraid.	15 Giunsero da Gesù, videro l’indemoniato seduto, vestito e sano di mente, lui che era stato posseduto dalla Legione, ed ebbero paura.
16 And those who had seen it explained to them how he had dealt with the man who had the demon, and about the swine.	16 Quelli che avevano visto, spiegarono loro che cosa era accaduto all’indemoniato e il fatto dei porci.
17 And they began to petition him, so that he would withdraw from their borders.	17 Ed essi si misero a pregarlo di andarsene dal loro territorio.
18 And as he was climbing into the boat, the man who had been troubled by the demons began to beg him, so that he might be with him.	18 Mentre risaliva nella barca, colui che era stato indemoniato lo supplicava di poter restare con lui.
19 And he did not permit him, but he said to him, “Go to your own people, in your own house, and announce to them how great are the things that Lord has done for you, and how he has taken pity on you.”	19 Non glielo permise, ma gli disse: «Va’ nella tua casa, dai tuoi, annuncia loro ciò che il Signore ti ha fatto e la misericordia che ha avuto per te».
20 And he went away and began to preach in the Ten Cities, how great were the things that Jesus had done for him. And everyone wondered.	20 Egli se ne andò e si mise a proclamare per la Decàpoli quello che Gesù aveva fatto per lui e tutti erano meravigliati.
21 And when Jesus had crossed in the boat, over the strait again, a great crowd came together before him. And he was near the sea.	21 Essendo Gesù passato di nuovo in barca all’altra riva, gli si radunò attorno molta folla ed egli stava lungo il mare.
22 And one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, approached. And seeing him, he fell prostrate at his feet.	22 E venne uno dei capi della sinagoga, di nome Giàiro, il quale, come lo vide, gli si gettò ai piedi
23 And he beseeched him greatly, saying: “For my daughter is near the end. Come and lay your hand on her, so that she may be healthy and may live.”	23 e lo supplicò con insistenza: «La mia figlioletta sta morendo: vieni a imporle le mani, perché sia salvata e viva».
24 And he went with him. And a great crowd followed him, and they pressed upon him.	24 Andò con lui. Molta folla lo seguiva e gli si stringeva intorno.
25 And there was a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years.	25 Ora una donna, che aveva perdite di sangue da dodici anni
26 And she had endured much from several physicians, and she had spent everything she owned with no benefit at all, but instead she became worse.	26 e aveva molto sofferto per opera di molti medici, spendendo tutti i suoi averi senza alcun vantaggio, anzi piuttosto peggiorando,
27 Then, when she had heard of Jesus, she approached through the crowd behind him, and she touched his garment.	27 udito parlare di Gesù, venne tra la folla e da dietro toccò il suo mantello.
28 For she said: “Because if I touch even his garment, I will be saved.”	28 Diceva infatti: «Se riuscirò anche solo a toccare le sue vesti, sarò salvata».
29 And immediately, the source of her bleeding was dried up, and she sensed in her body that she had been healed from the wound.	29 E subito le si fermò il flusso di sangue e sentì nel suo corpo che era guarita dal male.
30 And immediately Jesus, realizing within himself that power that had gone out from him, turning to the crowd, said, “Who touched my garments?”	30 E subito Gesù, essendosi reso conto della forza che era uscita da lui, si voltò alla folla dicendo: «Chi ha toccato le mie vesti?».
31 And his disciples said to him, “You see that the crowd presses around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ”	31 I suoi discepoli gli dissero: «Tu vedi la folla che si stringe intorno a te e dici: “Chi mi ha toccato?”».
32 And he looked around to see the woman who had done this.	32 Egli guardava attorno, per vedere colei che aveva fatto questo.
33 Yet truly, the woman, in fear and trembling, knowing what had happened within her, went and fell prostrate before him, and she told him the whole truth.	33 E la donna, impaurita e tremante, sapendo ciò che le era accaduto, venne, gli si gettò davanti e gli disse tutta la verità.
34 And he said to her: “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace, and be healed from your wound.”	34 Ed egli le disse: «Figlia, la tua fede ti ha salvata. Va’ in pace e sii guarita dal tuo male».
35 While he was still speaking, they arrived from the ruler of the synagogue, saying: “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”	35 Stava ancora parlando, quando dalla casa del capo della sinagoga vennero a dire: «Tua figlia è morta. Perché disturbi ancora il Maestro?».
36 But Jesus, having heard the word that was spoken, said to the ruler of the synagogue: “Do not be afraid. You need only believe.”	36 Ma Gesù, udito quanto dicevano, disse al capo della sinagoga: «Non temere, soltanto abbi fede!».
37 And he would not permit anyone to follow him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.	37 E non permise a nessuno di seguirlo, fuorché a Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni, fratello di Giacomo.
38 And they went to the house of the ruler of the synagogue. And he saw a tumult, and weeping, and much wailing.	38 Giunsero alla casa del capo della sinagoga ed egli vide trambusto e gente che piangeva e urlava forte.
39 And entering, he said to them: “Why are you disturbed and weeping? The girl is not dead, but is asleep.”	39 Entrato, disse loro: «Perché vi agitate e piangete? La bambina non è morta, ma dorme».
40 And they derided him. Yet truly, having put them all out, he took the father and mother of the girl, and those who were with him, and he entered to where the girl was lying.	40 E lo deridevano. Ma egli, cacciati tutti fuori, prese con sé il padre e la madre della bambina e quelli che erano con lui ed entrò dove era la bambina.
41 And taking the girl by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koumi,” which means, “Little girl, (I say to you) arise.	41 Prese la mano della bambina e le disse: «Talità kum», che significa: «Fanciulla, io ti dico: àlzati!».
42 And immediately the young girl rose up and walked. Now she was twelve years old. And they were suddenly struck with a great astonishment.	42 E subito la fanciulla si alzò e camminava; aveva infatti dodici anni. Essi furono presi da grande stupore.
43 And he instructed them sternly, so that no one would know about it. And he told them to give her something to eat.	43 E raccomandò loro con insistenza che nessuno venisse a saperlo e disse di darle da mangiare.
