1 “The kingdom of heaven is like the father of a family who went out in early morning to lead workers into his vineyard.	1 Infatti, il regno dei cieli è simile a un padrone di casa, il quale uscì di buon mattino ad ingaggiare operai per la sua vigna.
2 Then, having made an agreement with the workers for one denarius per day, he sent them into his vineyard.	2 Essendosi accordato con gli operai per un denaro al giorno, li mandò nella sua vigna.
3 And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace.	3 Uscito verso l'ora terza, trovò altri che stavano nella piazza inoperosi;
4 And he said to them, ‘You may go into my vineyard, too, and what I will give you will be just.’	4 disse loro: "Andate anche voi nella mia vigna e vi darò la giusta ricompensa". Essi andarono.
5 So they went forth. But again, he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and he acted similarly.	5 Di nuovo uscì verso l'ora sesta e l'ora nona e fece altrettanto.
6 Yet truly, about the eleventh hour, he went out and found others standing, and he said to them, ‘Why have you stood here idle all day?’	6 Uscì anche verso l'ora undecima e trovò altri che stavano là; dice loro: "Perché state qui tutto il giorno inoperosi?".
7 They say to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also may go into my vineyard.’	7 Gli rispondono: "Perché nessuno ci ha ingaggiati". Dice loro: "Andate anche voi nella vigna".
8 And when evening had arrived, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last, even to the first.’	8 Venuta la sera, il padrone della vigna dice al suo fattore: "Chiama gli operai e da' loro la mercede cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi".
9 And so, when those who had arrived about the eleventh hour came forward, each received a single denarius.	9 Vennero quelli dell'undecima ora e ricevettero un denaro ciascuno.
10 Then when the first ones also came forward, they considered that they would receive more. But they, too, received one denarius.	10 Quando giunsero i primi, pensavano che avrebbero ricevuto di più, ma ricevettero anch'essi un denaro ciascuno.
11 And upon receiving it, they murmured against the father of the family,	11 Nel prenderlo mormoravano contro il padre di famiglia
12 saying, ‘These last have worked for one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who worked bearing the weight and heat of the day.’	12 dicendo: "Questi ultimi hanno lavorato per un'ora sola e tu li hai equiparati a noi che abbiamo sopportato il peso e il caldo della giornata".
13 But responding to one of them, he said: ‘Friend, I caused you no injury. Did you not agree with me to one denarius?	13 Egli rispose ad uno di loro: "Amico, non sono ingiusto con te: non hai fatto il patto con me per un denaro?
14 Take what is yours and go. But it is my will to give to this last, just as to you.	14 Prendi ciò che è tuo e vattene. Voglio dare a quest'ultimo proprio quanto ho dato a te;
15 And is it not lawful for me to do what I will? Or is your eye wicked because I am good?’	15 che forse non mi è lecito disporre dei miei beni come voglio? O non sarà il tuo occhio che si fa cattivo dal momento che io sono buono?".
16 So then, the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. For many are called, but few are chosen.”	16 In questa maniera gli ultimi saranno primi e i primi saranno ultimi".
17 And Jesus, ascending to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside in private and said to them:	17 Mentre saliva a Gerusalemme, Gesù prese i Dodici in disparte e, cammin facendo, disse loro:
18 “Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be handed over to the leaders of the priests and to the scribes. And they shall condemn him to death.	18 "Ecco, saliamo a Gerusalemme e il Figlio dell'uomo sarà consegnato ai sommi sacerdoti e agli scribi che lo condanneranno a morte
19 And they shall hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified. And on the third day, he shall rise again.”	19 e lo consegneranno ai gentili, perché sia schernito, flagellato e crocifisso; ma il terzo giorno risorgerà".
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached him, with her sons, adoring him, and petitioning something from him.	20 Si avvicinò a lui la madre dei figli di Zebedeo insieme con i suoi figli e si prostrò per chiedergli qualcosa;
21 And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Declare that these, my two sons, may sit, one at your right hand, and the other at your left, in your kingdom.”	21 egli le domandò: "Che cosa vuoi?". Ed ella a lui: "Ordina che questi due miei figli siedano uno alla destra e l'altro alla tua sinistra nel tuo regno".
22 But Jesus, responding, said: “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink from the chalice, from which I will drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”	22 Gesù rispose: "Non sapete quello che chiedete; potete bere il calice che io sto per bere?". Gli rispondono: "Lo possiamo".
23 He said to them: “From my chalice, indeed, you shall drink. But to sit at my right or my left is not mine to give to you, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”	23 Dice loro: "Il mio calice, sì, lo berrete; ma sedere alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non sta a me concederlo, ma è riservato a coloro ai quali è stato assegnato dal Padre mio".
24 And the ten, upon hearing this, became indignant with the two brothers.	24 All'udir ciò gli altri dieci s'indignarono contro i due fratelli;
25 But Jesus called them to himself and said: “You know that the first ones among the Gentiles are their rulers, and that those who are greater exercise power among them.	25 Gesù, chiamatili a sé, disse: "Voi sapete che i capi delle nazioni esercitano la loro signoria su di esse, e i grandi sono quelli che fanno sentire su di esse la loro potenza.
26 It shall not be this way among you. But whoever will want to be greater among you, let him be your minister.	26 Non sarà così fra voi; ma chi fra voi vuol diventare grande sarà vostro servo,
27 And whoever will want to be first among you, he shall be your servant,	27 e chi fra voi vorrà essere al primo posto si farà vostro schiavo,
28 even as the Son of man has not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a redemption for many.”	28 come il Figlio dell'uomo che non è venuto ad essere servito, ma a servire e dare la propria vita in riscatto di molti".
29 And as they were departing from Jericho, a great crowd followed him.	29 Mentre essi uscivano da Gerico, gli andò dietro molta gente.
30 And behold, two blind men, sitting by the way, heard that Jesus was passing by; and they cried out, saying, “Lord, Son of David, take pity on us.”	30 Ed ecco, due ciechi stavano seduti lungo la via; saputo che passava Gesù, si misero a gridare: "Signore, abbi pietà di noi, Figlio di Davide!".
31 But the crowd rebuked them to be quiet. But they cried out all the more, saying, “Lord, Son of David, take pity on us.”	31 La folla cominciò a sgridarli perché tacessero; ma essi gridavano ancora più forte: "Signore, abbi pietà di noi, Figlio di Davide!".
32 And Jesus stood still, and he called them and said, “What do you want, that I might do for you?”	32 Gesù, fermatosi, li chiamò e disse: "Cosa volete che io vi faccia?".
33 They said to him, “Lord, that our eyes be opened.”	33 Gli risposero: "Signore, che si aprano i nostri occhi!".
34 Then Jesus, taking pity on them, touched their eyes. And immediately they saw, and they followed him.	34 Mosso a pietà, Gesù toccò i loro occhi e subito ricuperarono la vista e si misero a seguirlo.
