1 Listen to this word, which I lift over you in lamentation. The house of Israel has fallen, and it will no longer rise again.	1 Écoutez cette parole que je prononce contre vous, maison d’Israël, c’est une lamentation.
2 The virgin of Israel has been thrown onto her land, there is no one who can raise her up.	2 La vierge d’Israël est tombée, elle ne se relèvera pas; elle est jetée à terre, personne ne la relèvera.
3 For thus says the Lord God: In the city from which a thousand departed, a hundred will remain, and in that from which a hundred departed, ten will remain, in the house of Israel.	3 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Dites-moi les villes en Israël qui envoyaient mille hommes en campagne: elles n’en auront plus que cent; celle qui pouvait en envoyer cent n’en aura plus que dix.
4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me and you will live.	4 Car voici ce que dit Yahvé à la maison d’Israël: Cherchez-moi et vous vivrez!
5 But do not be willing to seek Bethel, and do not be willing to enter Gilgal, and you will not cross into Beer-sheba. For Gilgal will be led into captivity, and Bethel will be useless.	5 Mais ne cherchez pas à Béthel, n’allez pas à Guilgal, ne passez pas à Bersabée, car Guilgal ira en captivité, et de Béthel il ne restera rien.
6 Seek the Lord and live. Otherwise, the house of Joseph may be destroyed with fire, and it will devour, and there will be no one who can extinguish Bethel.	6 Cherchez Yahvé et vous vivrez; voulez-vous qu’il envoie le feu contre la maison de Joseph, et qu’il la dévore sans que nul ne l’éteigne?
7 You turn judgment into wormwood, and you abandon justice on earth.	7 5:8 C’est lui qui fit les Pléiades, Orion, qui change les ténèbres en aurore et le jour en une nuit obscure, qui appelle les eaux de la mer et les répand sur toute la terre; son Nom est Yahvé.
8 The Maker of Arcturus and Orion, who turns darkness into daybreak and who changes day into night; who calls forth the waters of the sea and who pours them out over the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.	8 5:9 Il déchaîne la ruine sur les puissants, et la ruine pénètre dans la forteresse.
9 It is he who smiles destruction on the healthy, and who brings pillaging upon the powerful.	9 5:7 Malheur à qui prononce, au lieu du droit, une sentence amère, et qui piétine la justice.
10 They held hatred for the one who corrects at the gate, and they have abhorred the one who speaks perfectly.	10 Ils détestent celui qui défend le droit; ils ont en horreur celui qui dit la vérité.
11 Therefore, on his behalf, because you have torn apart the poor and stolen choice prey from him: you will build houses with square stones and you will not dwell in them; you will plant the most delightful vineyards, and you will not drink wine from them.	11 N’est-ce pas vous qui piétinez le pauvre et lui taxez son blé? Construisez donc vos maisons de pierre, vous ne les habiterez pas; plantez de bonnes vignes, vous n’en boirez pas le vin.
12 For I know your many wicked deeds and the strength of your sins, you enemies of the just, accepting bribes, and depriving the poor at the gate.	12 Car je connais vos crimes, ils sont nombreux; je connais vos péchés, ils sont énormes. Vous opprimez le juste, vous ramassez les pots-de-vin, et au tribunal vous retirez ses droits au pauvre.
13 Therefore, the prudent will be silent at that time, for it is an evil time.	13 L’homme sage aujourd’hui se tait, car c’est un temps de malheur.
14 Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. And the Lord God of hosts will be with you, just as you have asked.	14 Cherchez le bien et non le mal, et vous vivrez; alors Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, sera avec vous comme vous le dites.
15 Hate evil and love good, and establish judgment at the gate. Perhaps then the Lord God of hosts may have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Détestez le mal et aimez le bien, faites régner la justice à la porte de la ville; peut-être Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, aura-t-il pitié du reste de Joseph!
16 Therefore, thus says the Lord God of hosts, the Sovereign: In all the streets, there will be wailing. And in every place where they are outdoors, they will say, “Woe, woe!” And they will call the farmer to mourn, and those who know mourning to lamentation.	16 Voici ce que dit Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, le Seigneur: Sur toutes les places on se lamente, dans toutes les rues j’entends: Hélas, hélas! On invite les laboureurs à faire ensemble le deuil, avec des pleureurs pour les lamentations.
17 And in all the vineyards there will be wailing. For I will cross through your midst, says the Lord.	17 Car je vais passer au milieu de toi et ce seront des lamentations dans toutes les vignes: c’est le Seigneur qui le dit.
18 Woe to those who desire the day of the Lord. What is it to you? The day of the Lord is this: darkness and not light.	18 Hélas pour vous, qui soupirez après le jour de Yahvé! Que sera-t-il pour vous, le jour de Yahvé? Il sera ténèbres et non lumière.
19 It is as if a man flees from the face of a lion, only to have a bear meet him; or, he enters a house and leans with his hand against the wall, only to have a snake bite him.	19 Ce sera comme un homme qui s’enfuit devant un lion et tombe sur un ours; il se réfugie dans sa maison, s’appuie sur le mur, et un serpent le mord.
20 Will not the day of the Lord be darkness and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?	20 Le jour de Yahvé ne sera pas lumière, mais bien plutôt ténèbres, ce sera l’obscurité où plus rien ne brille.
21 I hate and have rejected your feasts; and I will not accept the odor from your gatherings.	21 Je déteste, je méprise vos fêtes, je ne supporte pas vos célébrations.
22 For if you offer me holocausts and your gifts, I will not receive them; and I will not look upon the vows of your fatness.	22 Pourquoi m’offrez-vous des holocaustes, des offrandes? Je n’y prends pas plaisir. Vos sacrifices de bêtes grasses, je ne les regarde pas.
23 Take away from me the tumult of your songs, and I will not listen to the canticles of your lyre.	23 Éloigne de moi le bruit de tes cantiques, que je n’entende plus le son de tes harpes;
24 And judgment will be revealed like water, and justice like a mighty torrent.	24 mais fais que le jugement coule comme l’eau, et la justice comme un torrent jamais à sec.
25 Was it you who offered victims and sacrifices to me in the desert for forty years, house of Israel?	25 M’offriez-vous des sacrifices et des offrandes pendant les quarante ans du désert, maison d’Israël?
26 And you carried a tabernacle for your Moloch and the image of your idols: the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.	26 Gardez donc les idoles que vous vous êtes fabriquées, Sakkout votre roi, et l’étoile de votre dieu Kévan,
27 And I will cause you to go into captivity across Damascus, says the Lord. The God of hosts is his name.	27 et moi je vous déporterai au-delà de Damas, dit Yahvé; le Dieu Sabaot est son Nom.
