1 Thus, she reaches mightily from one end all the way to the other, and she orders all things sweetly.	1 Oui, la Sagesse s’étend d’une extrémité de la terre à l’autre, et partout elle établit l’ordre.
2 I have loved her and searched for her from my youth, and have asked to take her to me as my spouse, and I became a lover of her form.	2 Je l’ai aimée et désirée dès ma jeunesse; j’ai cherché à la prendre comme épouse, car j’étais amoureux de sa beauté.
3 She glorifies her lineage by having companionship with God; yes and of all things, the Lord loves her.	3 Le fait qu’elle partage la vie de Dieu fait ressortir sa noble origine: le Maître de toutes choses l’a aimée.
4 For she teaches the teaching of God and is the chooser of his works.	4 Elle est initiée à la connaissance même de Dieu, et c’est elle qui décide des œuvres à réaliser.
5 And if riches are longed for in life, what is richer than wisdom, which is being served in all things?	5 Si la richesse est ce qu’on désire en ce monde, y a-t-il richesse plus grande que la Sagesse, la réalisatrice universelle?
6 But if the mind is to be served, who, of all that exists, is a greater artisan than she?	6 Et si l’intelligence est réalisatrice, qui donc parmi les vivants fait les choses mieux qu’elle?
7 And if anyone loves justice, her labors hold great virtues; for she teaches temperance and prudence, justice and virtue, and nothing is more useful in human life.	7 Aimez-vous la droiture? Sachez que toutes les vertus sont les fruits de son labeur; elle enseigne la prudence et l’intelligence, la justice et la vaillance: il n’y a rien dans la vie qui soit plus utile aux hommes.
8 And if one desires a multitude of knowledge, she knows the past and forecasts the future; she knows the subtleties of conversation and the response to arguments; she understands the signs and portents, before the events take place, events both of the present time and of future ages.	8 Cherche-t-on des connaissances étendues? La Sagesse connaît les choses passées et prévoit l’avenir; elle sait interpréter les discours et résoudre les énigmes, elle annonce d’avance les signes de la nature et les prodiges, la fin des âges et des temps.
9 Therefore, I resolved to take her to me to live together, knowing that she will be a good counselor and will console my thoughts and my weariness.	9 Voilà pourquoi j’ai décidé d’en faire la compagne de ma vie: je savais qu’elle me conseillerait dans les temps heureux, et me soutiendrait dans les soucis et les peines.
10 Because of her, I have clarity in the midst of confusion, and honor among the elders in my youth;	10 “Grâce à la Sagesse, me disais-je, je serai honoré par les foules et, malgré ma jeunesse, respecté des anciens.
11 and I will be found to be astute in judgment, and will be admired in the sight of the mighty, and the faces of leaders will wonder at me.	11 On me reconnaîtra un jugement pénétrant, et les puissants m’admireront.
12 When I am silent, they will wait for me; when I speak, they will respect me; and when I talk for too long, they will put their hands on their mouths.	12 Si je me tais, ils seront dans l’attente; si je parle, ils seront attentifs; même si mon discours se prolonge, ils resteront à m’écouter.
13 Thus, by means of her, I will have immortality, and I will bequeath an everlasting memorial to those who come after me.	13 Grâce à la Sagesse j’obtiendrai l’immortalité, et je laisserai un souvenir éternel à ceux qui viendront après moi.
14 I will set the peoples in order, and nations will be subject to me.	14 Je gouvernerai les peuples, et les nations me seront soumises.
15 Hearing me, terrible kings will be afraid; to the multitude, I will be seen as good and valiant in war.	15 Des souverains redoutables prendront peur en entendant parler de moi; je serai bon avec mes gens et courageux à la guerre.
16 When I go into my house, I will repose myself with her, for her conversation has no bitterness, nor her company any tediousness, but only joy and gladness.	16 De retour chez moi, je me reposerai auprès d’elle, car sa compagnie n’est pas amère; vivre avec elle n’a rien de pénible, mais apporte au contraire, joie et bonheur.”
17 Thinking these things within myself, and recalling in my heart that immortality is the intention of wisdom,	17 Voilà comment je raisonnais en moi-même. Je comprenais qu’on trouve la vie immortelle dans l’union avec la Sagesse,
18 and that in her friendship is good enjoyment, and in the works of her hands are honors without flaw, and in debate with her is understanding, and glory in sharing conversation with her; I went about seeking, so that I might take her to myself.	18 qu’on acquiert une joie supérieure grâce à son amitié, une richesse durable grâce à ses travaux, l’intelligence quand on s’exerce à l’entendre, et la renommée dans les entretiens avec elle. Je suis donc parti à sa recherche afin de la prendre chez moi.
19 For I was an ingenious boy and had been dealt a good soul.	19 J’étais de naissance un enfant bien doté, j’avais reçu en partage une âme bonne;
20 Even more so, being good, I came to have an undefiled body.	20 ou plutôt, étant bon, j’étais venu dans un corps sans défauts.
21 And since I know that it is not possible to be chaste except as a gift from God, and that it is a point of wisdom to know whose gift it is, I approached the Lord, and I besought him, and I said with my whole heart:	21 Mais j’avais compris aussi que le seul moyen pour la posséder était que Dieu me la donne, et c’était déjà un signe d’intelligence de l’avoir compris. C’est pourquoi je me suis tourné vers le Seigneur et je l’ai supplié; de tout mon cœur je lui ai dit:
