Proverbs 19

1 Better is the poor who walks in his simplicity, than the rich who twists his lips and is unwise.	1 Meglio un povero di condotta intemerata che un ricco il quale torce i labbri ed è stolto.
2 Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good. And whoever hurries with his feet will stumble.	2 Dove non c'è la scienza dell'anima non c'è alcun bene, e chi ha la fretta nei piedi inciamperà.
3 The foolishness of a man undermines his steps. And then he seethes in his soul against God.	3 La stoltezza dell'uomo ne rovina gli affari, ed egli poi s'arrabbia contro Dio.
4 Riches adds many friends. But from the pauper, even those whom he had become separated.	4 Le ricchezze procurano gran numero d'amici; dal povero se ne vanno anche quelli che aveva.
5 A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will not escape.	5 Il falso testimonio non rimarrà impunito, e chi spaccia menzogne non avrà scampo.
6 Many honor the character of one who is powerful, and there are friends for a giver of gifts.	6 Stolti onorano la persona del potente e sono amici di chi dà regali.
7 The brothers of the poor man hate him. Moreover, even his friends have withdrawn far from him. Whoever pursues only words shall have nothing.	7 Gli stessi fratelli hanno a noia il povero, e molto più i suoi amici s'allontanan da lui. Chi va dietro alle parole non avrà nulla.
8 But whoever possesses reason loves his own soul. And one who guards prudence shall discover good things.	8 Chi acquista senno ama la sua anima, e chi fa tesoro della prudenza si troverà bene.
9 A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will perish.	9 Il falso testimonio non rimarrà impunito, e chi spaccia menzogne perirà.
10 Fine things are not fitting for the foolish, nor is it fitting for a servant to rule over princes.	10 Non sta bene che lo stolto sia in delizie, nè che il servo comandi ai principi.
11 The doctrine of a man is known through patience. And his glory is to pass beyond iniquities.	11 La saggezza dell'uomo si conosce dalla pazienza, ed è sua gloria passar sopra le offese.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, so also is the wrath of a king. And his cheerfulness is like the dew upon the grass.	12 Come ruggito di leone è l'ira del re, ma ìa sua ilarità è come rugiada sull'erba.
13 A foolish son is the grief of his father. And an argumentative wife is like a roof that is continually leaking.	13 Il figliolo stolto è la sventura del padre, e la donna litigiosa è un tetto che sgocciola continuamente.
14 A house and its riches are given by parents. But a prudent wife is particularly from the Lord.	14 La casa e le ricchezze vengono dai parenti, ma la moglie prudente è un dono speciale del Signore.
15 Laziness sends one into a deep sleep, and a dissolute soul will go hungry.	15 La pigrizia fa venire il sonno e la persona indolente patirà la fame.
16 Whoever guards a commandment guards his own soul. But whoever neglects his own way will die.	16 Chi osserva, il comandamento conserva la sua anima, ma chi è trascurato nella sua condotta troverà la morte.
17 Whoever is merciful to the poor lends to the Lord. And he will repay him for his efforts.	17 Presta al Signore chi ha pietà del povero, ed Egli gliene renderà il contraccambio.
18 Teach your son; do not despair. But do not set your soul toward putting him to death.	18 Correggi il tuo figliolo, non disperare; guardati dal farlo morire.
19 Whoever is impatient will sustain damage. And when it has been taken away, he will set up another.	19 Chi è impaziente ne porterà il danno, e se farà violenza aggiungerà danno a danno.
20 Listen to counsel and take up discipline, so that you may be wise in your latter days.	20 Ascolta i consigli, accetta la correzione, per esser sapiente in avvenire.
21 There are many intentions in the heart of a man. But the will of the Lord shall stand firm.	21 Molti sono i disegni nel cuore dell'uomo, ma è la volontà del Signore quella che prevale.
22 An indigent man is merciful. And a pauper is better than a deceitful man.	22 L'uomo (che è stato) indigente è misericordioso; meglio povero che bugiardo.
23 The fear of the Lord is unto life. And he shall linger in plentitude, without being visited by disaster.	23 Il timor del Signore mena alla vita, chi ne avrà molto non sarà visitato dalla sventura.
24 The lazy conceals his hand under his arm, and he will not so much as bring it to his mouth.	24 Il pigro nasconde la sua mano sotto l'ascella, nè sa portarla fino alla bocca.
25 When the pestilent are scourged, the foolish will become wiser. But if you chastise the wise, he will understand discipline.	25 Flagellato che sia l'empio, metterà giudizio lo stolto, se invece correggi il sapiente, imparerà la disciplina.
26 Whoever afflicts his father and flees from his mother is disreputable and unhappy.	26 Chi affligge il padre e fa fuggire la madre è infame e infelice.
27 Son, do not cease listening to doctrine, and do not be ignorant of the sermons of knowledge.	27 Figliolo, non ti stancare di udire avvertimenti, non volere ignorare le parole della scienza.
28 An unjust witness ridicules judgment. And the mouth of the impious devours iniquity.	28 IUl testimone iniquo si burla della giustizia, e la bocca degli stolti divora l'iniquità.
29 Judgments are prepared for those who ridicule. And striking hammers are prepared for the bodies of the foolish.	29 E' preparato per i beffardi il giudizio, i martelli per battere i corpi degli stolti.
