Job 18

But Baldad the Suhite responded by saying:1 Bildad de Shuah prit la parole et dit:
How long will you throw around words? Understand first, and then let us speak.2 Jusqu'à quand mettrez-vous des entraves aux discours? Réfléchissez, puis nous parlerons.
Why have we been treated like mules, as if we were unworthy before you?3 Pourquoi nous considères-tu comme des bêtes, passons-nous pour des brutes à tes yeux?
You, who ruins your own soul in your fury, will the earth be forsaken because of you, and will the cliffs be moved from their place?4 O toi qui te déchires dans ta fureur, la terre à cause de toi sera-t-elle abandonnée et les rochersquitteront-ils leur place?
Will not the light of the impious be put out, and the flame of his fire refuse to shine?5 La lumière du méchant doit s'éteindre, sa flamme ardente ne plus briller.
Light will become darkness in his tabernacle, and the lamp that is over him will be extinguished.6 La lumière s'assombrit sous sa tente, la lampe qui l'éclairait s'éteint.
His strong steps will be constrained, and his own counsel will cast him down uncontrollably.7 Ses pas vigoureux se rétrécissent, il trébuche dans ses propres desseins.
For he has caused his own feet to go into a net, and he has walked into its web.8 Car ses pieds le jettent dans un filet et il avance parmi les rets.
His heel will be held in a snare, and thirst will rage against him.9 Un lacet le saisit au talon et le piège se referme sur lui.
A trap has been hidden for him in the earth, and a decoy, along his path.10 Le noeud pour le prendre est caché en terre, une trappe l'attend sur le sentier.
Horrifying things will terrify him everywhere and will entangle his feet.11 De toutes parts des terreurs l'épouvantent et elles le suivent pas à pas.
Let his strength be diminished by famine, and let starvation invade his ribs.12 La faim devient sa compagne, le malheur se tient à ses côtés.
Let it devour the beauty of his skin; let the ancient death consume his arms.13 Le mal dévore sa peau, le Premier-né de la Mort ronge ses membres.
Let his confidence be torn away from his tabernacle, and let ruin trample over him like a king.14 On l'arrache à l'abri de sa tente, et tu le traîneras vers le Roi des frayeurs.
Let the companions of he who is not, dwell in his tabernacle; let brimstone rain down upon his tabernacle.15 Tu peux habiter la tente qui n'est plus la sienne, et l'on répand du soufre sur son bercail.
Let his roots be dried up from beneath him, and his harvest be crushed from above.16 En bas ses racines se dessèchent, en haut se flétrit sa ramure.
Let the memory of him perish from the earth, and let not his name be celebrated in the streets.17 Son souvenir disparaît du pays, son nom s'efface dans la contrée.
He will expel him from light into darkness, and he will remove him from the world.18 Poussé de la lumière aux ténèbres, il se voit banni de la terre.
Neither his offspring, nor his descendents, will exist among his people, nor will there be any remnants in his country.19 Il n'a ni lignée ni postérité parmi son peuple, aucun survivant en ses lieux de séjour.
The last will be astonished at his day, and the first will be overcome with horror.20 Sa fin frappe de stupeur l'Occident et l'Orient est saisi d'effroi.
And so, these are the tabernacles of the sinful, and this the place of he who does not know God.21 Point d'autre sort pour les demeures de l'injustice. Voilà ce que devient le lieu de quiconqueméconnaît Dieu.
