CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINLXX
Then Job, answering, said:1 υπολαβων δε ιωβ λεγει
Are you, therefore, alone among men, and will wisdom die with you?2 ειτα υμεις εστε ανθρωποι η μεθ' υμων τελευτησει σοφια
And I have a heart just as you also do, and I am not inferior to you. For who is ignorant of these things, which you know?3 καμοι μεν καρδια καθ' υμας εστιν
He who is mocked by his friends as I am, will call upon God, and he will listen to him because it is the sincerity of the just that is being mocked.4 δικαιος γαρ ανηρ και αμεμπτος εγενηθη εις χλευασμα
The lamp that is despised in the thoughts of the rich is ready for the appointed time.5 εις χρονον γαρ τακτον ητοιμαστο πεσειν υπο αλλους οικους τε αυτου εκπορθεισθαι υπο ανομων
The tabernacles of robbers are numerous, and they provoke God boldly; whereas, it is he who has given all things into their hands.6 ου μην δε αλλα μηδεις πεποιθετω πονηρος ων αθωος εσεσθαι οσοι παροργιζουσιν τον κυριον ως ουχι και ετασις αυτων εσται
In truth, ask the mules, and they will teach you, and the birds of the sky, and they will reveal to you.7 αλλα δη επερωτησον τετραποδα εαν σοι ειπωσιν πετεινα δε ουρανου εαν σοι απαγγειλωσιν
Speak with the earth, and it will respond to you, and the fish of the sea will explain.8 εκδιηγησαι δε γη εαν σοι φραση και εξηγησονται σοι οι ιχθυες της θαλασσης
Who is ignorant that the hand of the Lord has made all these things?9 τις ουκ εγνω εν πασι τουτοις οτι χειρ κυριου εποιησεν ταυτα
In his hand is the soul of all the living and the spirit of all the flesh of mankind.10 ει μη εν χειρι αυτου ψυχη παντων των ζωντων και πνευμα παντος ανθρωπου
Does not the ear perceive words, and the palate, when eating, perceive flavor?11 ους μεν γαρ ρηματα διακρινει λαρυγξ δε σιτα γευεται
In old age is wisdom, and in length of days is prudence.12 εν πολλω χρονω σοφια εν δε πολλω βιω επιστημη
With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.13 παρ' αυτω σοφια και δυναμις αυτω βουλη και συνεσις
If he tears down, there is no one who can build up; if he encloses a man, there is no one who can open.14 εαν καταβαλη τις οικοδομησει εαν κλειση κατα ανθρωπων τις ανοιξει
If he restrains the waters, everything will dry up; and if he sends them forth, they will subdue the land.15 εαν κωλυση το ωδωρ ξηρανει την γην εαν δε επαφη απωλεσεν αυτην καταστρεψας
With him is strength and wisdom; he knows both the deceiver and he who is deceived.16 παρ' αυτω κρατος και ισχυς αυτω επιστημη και συνεσις
He leads advisors to a foolish end and judges to stupidity.17 διαγων βουλευτας αιχμαλωτους κριτας δε γης εξεστησεν
He removes the belt of kings and encircles their waist with a rope.18 καθιζανων βασιλεις επι θρονους και περιεδησεν ζωνη οσφυας αυτων
He leads away priests in dishonor and displaces nobles,19 εξαποστελλων ιερεις αιχμαλωτους δυναστας δε γης κατεστρεψεν
altering the lips of those who speak the truth and sweeping away the teaching of the aged.20 διαλλασσων χειλη πιστων συνεσιν δε πρεσβυτερων εγνω
He pours distain upon the leaders, relieving those who had been oppressed.21 εκχεων ατιμιαν επ' αρχοντας ταπεινους δε ιασατο
He reveals the depths of the darkness, and he brings the shadow of death into the light.22 ανακαλυπτων βαθεα εκ σκοτους εξηγαγεν δε εις φως σκιαν θανατου
He multiplies peoples, and destroys them, and, having been overthrown, he restores them anew.23 πλανων εθνη και απολλυων αυτα καταστρωννυων εθνη και καθοδηγων αυτα
He transforms the heart of the leaders of the people on earth, and misleads those who in vain advance upon the inviolable.24 διαλλασσων καρδιας αρχοντων γης επλανησεν δε αυτους οδω η ουκ ηδεισαν
They will grope as in the darkness, not the light, and he will make them stagger like drunkards.25 ψηλαφησαισαν σκοτος και μη φως πλανηθειησαν δε ωσπερ ο μεθυων
