1 And the Lord spoke all these words:	1 Dann sprach Gott alle diese Worte:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, out of the house of servitude.	2 Ich bin Jahwe, dein Gott, der dich aus Ägypten geführt hat, aus dem Sklavenhaus.
3 You shall not have strange gods before me.	3 Du sollst neben mir keine anderen Götter haben.
4 You shall not make for yourself a graven image, nor a likeness of anything that is in heaven above or on earth below, nor of those things which are in the waters under the earth.	4 Du sollst dir kein Gottesbild machen und keine Darstellung von irgendetwas am Himmel droben, auf der Erde unten oder im Wasser unter der Erde.
5 You shall not adore them, nor shall you worship them. I am the Lord your God: strong, zealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,	5 Du sollst dich nicht vor anderen Göttern niederwerfen und dich nicht verpflichten, ihnen zu dienen. Denn ich, der Herr, dein Gott, bin ein eifersüchtiger Gott: Bei denen, die mir Feind sind, verfolge ich die Schuld der Väter an den Söhnen, an der dritten und vierten Generation;
6 and showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my precepts.	6 bei denen, die mich lieben und auf meine Gebote achten, erweise ich Tausenden meine Huld.
7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will not hold harmless one who takes the name of the Lord his God falsely.	7 Du sollst den Namen des Herrn, deines Gottes, nicht missbrauchen; denn der Herr lässt den nicht ungestraft, der seinen Namen missbraucht.
8 Remember that you are to sanctify the day of the Sabbath.	8 Gedenke des Sabbats: Halte ihn heilig!
9 For six days, you will work and accomplish all your tasks.	9 Sechs Tage darfst du schaffen und jede Arbeit tun.
10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work in it: you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, your beast and the newcomer who is within your gates.	10 Der siebte Tag ist ein Ruhetag, dem Herrn, deinem Gott, geweiht. An ihm darfst du keine Arbeit tun: du, dein Sohn und deine Tochter, dein Sklave und deine Sklavin, dein Vieh und der Fremde, der in deinen Stadtbereichen Wohnrecht hat.
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all the things that are in them, and so he rested on the seventh day. For this reason, the Lord has blessed the day of the Sabbath and sanctified it.	11 Denn in sechs Tagen hat der Herr Himmel, Erde und Meer gemacht und alles, was dazugehört; am siebten Tag ruhte er. Darum hat der Herr den Sabbattag gesegnet und ihn für heilig erklärt.
12 Honor your father and your mother, so that you may have a long life upon the land, which the Lord your God will give to you.	12 Ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter, damit du lange lebst in dem Land, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir gibt.
13 You shall not murder.	13 Du sollst nicht morden.
14 You shall not commit adultery.	14 Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen.
15 You shall not steal.	15 Du sollst nicht stehlen.
16 You shall not speak false testimony against your neighbor.	16 Du sollst nicht falsch gegen deinen Nächsten aussagen.
17 You shall not covet the house of your neighbor; neither shall you desire his wife, nor male servant, nor female servant, nor ox, nor donkey, nor anything that is his.”	17 Du sollst nicht nach dem Haus deines Nächsten verlangen. Du sollst nicht nach der Frau deines Nächsten verlangen, nach seinem Sklaven oder seiner Sklavin, seinem Rind oder seinem Esel oder nach irgendetwas, das deinem Nächsten gehört.
18 Then all the people considered the voices, and the lights, and the sound of the trumpet, and the smoking mountain. And being terrified and struck with fear, they stood at a distance,	18 Das ganze Volk erlebte, wie es donnerte und blitzte, wie Hörner erklangen und der Berg rauchte. Da bekam das Volk Angst, es zitterte und hielt sich in der Ferne.
19 saying to Moses: “Speak to us, and we will listen. Let not the Lord speak to us, lest perhaps we may die.”	19 Sie sagten zu Mose: Rede du mit uns, dann wollen wir hören. Gott soll nicht mit uns reden, sonst sterben wir.
20 And Moses said to the people: “Do not be afraid. For God came in order to test you, and so that the dread of him might be with you, and you would not sin.”	20 Da sagte Mose zum Volk: Fürchtet euch nicht! Gott ist gekommen, um euch auf die Probe zu stellen. Die Furcht vor ihm soll über euch kommen, damit ihr nicht sündigt.
21 And the people stood far away. But Moses approached toward the mist, in which was God.	21 Das Volk hielt sich in der Ferne und Mose näherte sich der dunklen Wolke, in der Gott war.
22 Thereafter, the Lord said to Moses: “This you shall say to the sons of Israel: You have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven.	22 Der Herr sprach zu Mose: Sag den Israeliten: Ihr habt gesehen, dass ich vom Himmel her mit euch geredet habe.
23 You shall not make gods of silver, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.	23 Ihr sollt euch neben mir keine Götter aus Silber machen, auch Götter aus Gold sollt ihr euch nicht machen.
24 You shall make an altar from the earth for me, and you shall offer upon it your holocausts and peace-offerings, your sheep and oxen, in every place where the memory of my name shall be. I will come to you, and I will bless you.	24 Du sollst mir einen Altar aus Erde errichten und darauf deine Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder als Brandopfer und Heilsopfer schlachten. An jedem Ort, an dem ich meinem Namen ein Gedächtnis stifte, will ich zu dir kommen und dich segnen.
25 And if you make an altar of stone for me, you shall not build it from cut stones; for if you lift up a tool over it, it will be defiled.	25 Wenn du mir einen Altar aus Steinen errichtest, so sollst du ihn nicht aus behauenen Quadern bauen. Du entweihst ihn, wenn du mit einem Meißel daran arbeitest.
26 You shall not ascend by steps to my altar, lest your nakedness be revealed.”	26 Du sollst nicht auf Stufen zu meinem Altar hinaufsteigen, damit deine Blöße dabei nicht zum Vorschein komme.
