And as they were returning, they came through to Haran, which is in the middle of the journey, opposite Nineveh, on the eleventh day.1 They were nearly at Kaserin, opposite Nineveh,
And the Angel said: “Brother Tobias, you know how you left behind your father.2 when Raphael said, 'You know the plight in which we left your father;
And so, if it pleases you, let us go on ahead, and let the family follow after us with a slower step, together with your bride, and with the animals.”3 let us go on ahead of your wife and prepare the house ourselves while she travels behind with theothers.'
And since it pleased him to go on in this way, Raphael said to Tobias, “Take with you from the gall of the fish, for it will be necessary.” And so, Tobias took from its gall, and he went ahead.4 They went on together (Raphael warned Tobias to take the gal with him) and the dog followed them.
But Anna sat beside the way every day, on the top of a hill, from where she would be able to see for a long distance.5 Anna was sitting, watching the road by which her son would come.
And while she was watching for his arrival from that place, she looked far off, and soon she realized that her son was approaching. And running, she reported it to her husband, saying: “Behold, your son arrives.”6 She was sure at once it must be he and said to the father, 'Here comes your son, with his companion.'
And Raphael said to Tobias: “As soon as you enter into your house, immediately adore the Lord your God. And, giving thanks to him, approach your father, and kiss him.7 Raphael said to Tobias before he reached his father, 'I give you my word that your father's eyes wil open.
And immediately anoint his eyes from this gall of the fish, which you carry with you. For you should know that his eyes will soon be opened, and your father will see the light of heaven, and he will rejoice at the sight of you.”8 You must put the fish's gal to his eyes; the medicine wil smart and wil draw a filmy white skin off hiseyes. And your father wil no more be blind but will be able to see the light.'
Then the dog, which had been with them in the way, ran ahead, and, arriving like a messenger, he showed his joy by fawning and wagging his tail.9 The mother ran forward and threw her arms round her son's neck. 'Now I can die,' she said, 'I haveseen you again.' And she wept.
And rising up, his blind father began to run, stumbling with his feet. And giving his hand to a servant, he ran on to meet his son.10 Tobit rose to his feet and stumbled across the courtyard through the door. Tobias came on towardshim
And receiving him, he kissed him, as did his wife, and they both began to weep for joy.11 (he had the fish's gal in his hand). He blew into his eyes and said, steadying him, 'Take courage, father!' With this he applied the medicine, left it there a while,
And when they had adored God and had given thanks, they sat down together.12 then with both hands peeled away a filmy skin from the corners of his eyes.
Then Tobias, taking from the gall of the fish, anointed his father’s eyes.13 Then his father fel on his neck
And about half an hour passed, and then a white film began to come out of his eyes, like the membrane of an egg.14 and wept. He exclaimed, 'I can see you, my son, the light of my eyes!' And he said: Blessed be God!Blessed be his great name! Blessed be all his holy angels! Blessed be his great name for evermore!
So, taking hold of it, Tobias pulled it away from his eyes, and immediately he received his sight.15 For, having afflicted me, he has had pity on me and now I see my son Tobias! Tobias went indoors, joyfully blessing God at the top of his voice. Then he told his father everything; how his journey had beensuccessful and he had brought the silver back; how he had married Sarah the daughter of Raguel; how she wasfol owing him now, close behind, and could not be far from the gates of Nineveh.
And they glorified God: Tobit especially, and his wife, and all those who knew him.16 Tobit set off to the gates of Nineveh to meet his daughter-in-law, giving joyful praise to God as hewent. When the people of Nineveh saw him walking without a guide and stepping forward as briskly as of old, they were astonished.
And Tobit said, “I bless you, O Lord God of Israel, because you have chastised me, and you have saved me, and behold, I see my son Tobias.”17 Tobit described to them how God had taken pity on him and had opened his eyes. Then Tobit metSarah the bride of his son Tobias, and blessed her in these words. 'Welcome, daughter! Blessed be your God forsending you to us, my daughter. Blessings on your father, blessings on my son Tobias, blessings on yourself,my daughter. Welcome now to your own house in joyfulness and in blessedness. Come in, my daughter.' Thatday brought joy to the Jews of Nineveh,
And then, after seven days, Sarah, the wife of his son, and all the family arrived safely, along with the sheep, and the camels, and much money from his wife, but also with that money which he had received from Gabael.18 and his cousins Ahikar and Nadab came to share in Tobit's happiness.
And he explained to his parents all the benefits from God, which he had produced all around him, by means of the man who had led him.
And then Ahikar and Nadab arrived, the maternal first cousins of Tobias, rejoicing for Tobias, and congratulating with him for all the good things that God had revealed all around him.
And for seven days they feasted, and all were rejoicing with great joy.
