Also, he made a brass altar of twenty cubits in length, and of twenty cubits in width, and of ten cubits in height,1 Then he made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and ten cubits high.
as well as a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in its circumference. It had five cubits in height, and a line of thirty cubits went around it on all sides.2 He also made the molten sea. It was perfectly round, ten cubits in diameter, five in depth, and thirty in circumference;
Also, under it there was the likeness of oxen. And certain engravings encircled the cavity of the sea, along ten cubits of the outside, as if in two rows. Now the oxen were molten.3 below the rim a ring of figures of oxen encircled the sea, ten to the cubit, all the way around; there were two rows of these cast in the same mold with the sea.
And the sea itself was placed upon the twelve oxen, three of which were looking toward the north, and another three toward the west, then another three toward the south, and the three that remained toward the east, having the sea imposed upon them. But the posteriors of the oxen were toward the interior, under the sea.4 It rested on twelve oxen, three facing north, three west, three south, and three east, with their haunches all toward the center; the sea rested on their backs.
Now its thickness had the measure of the palm of a hand, and its brim was like the lip of a cup, or like the outturned petal of a lily. And it held three thousand measures.5 It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like that of a cup, being lily-shaped. It had a capacity of three thousand measures.
Also, he made ten basins. And he placed five on the right, and five on the left, so that they might wash in them all the things that they were to offer as holocausts. But the priests were to be washed in the sea.6 Then he made ten basins for washing, placing five of them to the right and five to the left. Here were cleansed the victims for the holocausts; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
Then he also made ten gold lampstands, according to the form by which they had been ordered to be made. And he set them in the temple, five on the right, and five on the left.7 He made the lampstands of gold, ten of them as was prescribed, and placed them in the nave, five to the right and five to the left.
Moreover, there were also ten tables. And he placed them in the temple, five on the right, and five on the left. Also, there were one hundred gold bowls.8 He made ten tables and had them set in the nave, five to the right and five to the left; and he made a hundred golden bowls.
Then too, he made the court of the priests, and a great hall, and doors in the hall, which he covered with brass.9 He made the court of the priests and the great courtyard and the gates of the courtyard; the gates he overlaid with bronze.
Now he placed the sea on the right side, facing the east, toward the south.10 The sea was placed off to the southeast from the right side of the temple.
Then Hiram made cooking pots and hooks and bowls. And he completed every work of the king in the house of God,11 Huram also made the pots, the shovels and the bowls. Huram thus completed the work he had to do for King Solomon in the house of God:
that is, the two pillars, and the crossbeams, and the heads, and something like a little net, which would cover the heads above the crossbeams,12 two columns, two nodes for the capitals topping these two columns, and two networks covering the nodes of the capitals topping the columns;
and also four hundred pomegranates, and two little nets, so that two rows of pomegranates were joined to each net, which would cover the crossbeams and the heads of the pillars.13 also four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, with two rows of pomegranates to each network, to cover the two nodes of the capitals topping the columns.
He also made bases; and basins that he placed upon the bases;14 He made the stands, and the basins on the stands;
one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea;15 one sea, and the twelve oxen under it;
and cooking pots and hooks and bowls. Hiram, his father, made all the vessels for Solomon, in the house of the Lord, from the purest brass.16 likewise the pots, the shovels and the forks. Huram-abi made all these articles for King Solomon from polished bronze for the house of the LORD.
The king cast these in the region near the Jordan, in the clay soil between Succoth and Zeredah.17 The king had them cast in the Jordan region, in the clayey ground between Succoth and Zeredah.
Now the multitude of the vessels was innumerable, so much so that the weight of the brass was unknown.18 Solomon made all these vessels, so many in number that the weight of the bronze was not ascertained.
And Solomon made all the vessels for the house of God, and the gold altar, and the tables upon which were the bread of the presence;19 Solomon had all these articles made for the house of God: the golden altar, the tables on which the showbread lay,
and also, of the purest gold, the lampstands with their lamps, to shine before the oracle, according to the rite;20 the lampstands and their lamps of pure gold which were to burn according to prescription before the sanctuary,
and certain flowers, and lamps, and gold tongs. All these were made from the purest gold.21 flowers, lamps and gold tongs (this was the purest gold),
Also, the vessels for the perfumes, and the censers, and the bowls, and the little mortars were from the purest gold. And he engraved the doors of the inner temple, that is, for the Holy of Holies. And the doors of the outer temple were of gold. And so, every work was completed that Solomon made in the house of the Lord.22 snuffers, bowls, cups and firepans of pure gold. As for the entry to the house, its inner doors to the holy of holies, as well as the doors to the nave, were of gold.
