1 Josiah was eight years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.	1 Era Iosia, quando incominciò a regnare, di otto anni; e XXXI anno regnò in Ierusalem.
2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and he walked in the ways of his father David. He did not turn away, neither to the right, nor to the left.	2 E fece quello che era diritto nel cospetto del Signore, e andò per le vie del suo padre David; e non declinò nè a mano diritta nè a mano sinistra.
3 Now in the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David. And in the twelfth year after he had begun to reign, he cleansed Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the sacred groves, and the idols, and the graven images.	3 E l'ottavo anno del suo regno, essendo ancora fanciullo, cominciò a domandare il Signore Iddio dei padri suoi; e il XII anno, poi che cominciò [a regnare], mondò Giuda e Ierusalem degli luoghi alti e de' boschi e delle statue.
4 And in his sight, they destroyed the altars of the Baals, and they demolished the idols which had been set upon them. And then he cut down the sacred groves and crushed the graven images. And he scattered the fragments upon the tombs of those who had been accustomed to immolate to them.	4 E nel suo cospetto guastarono gli altari di Baalim; e le statue, che v'erano sopra poste, disfeceno; e tagliò i boschi, e spezzoe le statue; e i pezzi di quelle sparse sopra le sepolture di coloro li quali erano usati di sacrificare a loro.
5 And after that, he burned the bones of the priests upon the altars of the idols. And so did he cleanse Judah and Jerusalem.	5 E l'ossa de' sacerdoti arse sopra li altari degl' idoli, e mondò Giuda e Ierusalem.
6 Then too, in the cities of Manasseh, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Naphtali, he overturned everything.	6 E nelle città di Manasse e d'Efraim e di Simeon insino a Neftali tutte le disfece.
7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the sacred groves, and had broken the idols to pieces, and when all the profane shrines had been demolished from the entire land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.	7 E dissipati gli altari e i boschi, e spezzate le statue in pezzi, e disfatti tutti i luoghi degli idoli di tutta la terra d' Israel, ritornossi in Ierusalem.
8 And so, in the eighteenth year of his reign, having now cleansed the land and the temple of the Lord, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah, the ruler of the city, and Joah, the son of Joahaz, the historian, to repair the house of the Lord his God.	8 E nei XVIII anni del suo regno, purgata già la terra e il tempio del Signore, mandò Safan figliuolo di Eselia, e Maasia principe della città, e Ioa figliuolo di Ioacaz de' comentatori, che ristorassono la casa del suo Signore Iddio.
9 And they went to Hilkiah, the high priest. And having accepted from him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasseh, and Ephraim, and the entire remnant of Israel, and also from all of Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	9 Li quali vennero ad Elcia, grande sacerdote; e tolta da lui la pecunia, la qual era data alla casa di Dio, e la quale aveano raunata i Leviti e i portieri di Manasse ed Efraim, e di tutte le reliquie' d' Israel, e di tutto Giuda e Beniamin, e [degli] abitatori di Ierusalem,
10 they delivered it into the hands of those who were in charge of the workers in the house of the Lord, so that they might repair the temple, and restore whatever was weak.	10 diederla nelle mani di coloro ch' erano soprastanti degli operarii nella casa del Signore, acciò che restaurassero il tempio (di Dio), e tutto quello che fosse magagnato rimendassono.
11 And they gave it to the artisans and the stoneworkers, so that they might buy stones from the quarries, and wood for the joints of the building and for the upper floors the houses, which the kings of Judah had destroyed.	11 E quegli la diedono agli artefici e petraiuoli, che comperassero le pietre tagliate delle cave e le legna, le quali erano bisogno alle commettiture degli edificii, e a rifare le case le quali aveano disfatto i re di Giuda.
12 And they did everything faithfully. Now the overseers of the workers were Jahath and Obadiah, from the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, from the sons of Kohath, who were supervising the work. All were Levites who knew how to play musical instruments.	12 Li quali tutte le cose faceano fedelmente. E gli preposti degli operarii erano questi: cioè Iaat e Abdia de' figliuoli di Merari, Zacaria e Mosollam de' figliuoli di Caat, li quali sollecitavano l' opera; tutti Leviti che sapeano cantare con gli organi.
13 Truly, scribes and teachers, from among the Levites who were porters, were over those who were carrying burdens for various uses.	13 E sopra tutti quegli, i quali portavano pesi di diverse opere, erano li scribi e maestri de' Leviti portieri.
14 And when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord by the hand of Moses.	14 E dando egli la pecunia, la quale era offerta nel tempio del Signore, trovoe Elcia sacerdote il libro della legge di Dio (il quale era dato) per mano di Moisè.
15 And he said to Shaphan, the scribe: “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” And he delivered it to him.	15 E disse a Safan scriba: io hoe trovato nella casa del Signore il libro della legge (di Dio). E dièdeglielo.
16 Then he took the volume to the king, and he reported to him, saying: “Behold, everything that you entrusted to your servants is completed.	16 Ed egli portò il libro al re, e disse: tutto quello che tu hai posto nelle mani de' tuoi servi, si fornisce.
17 They have melted together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord. And it has been given to the overseers of the artisans and craftsmen for various works.	17 L'ariento, il quale è trovato nella casa di Dio, hannolo fonduto, e dato a' soprastanti degli artefici e di quelli che fanno diverse opere.
18 After this, Hilkiah the priest gave to me this book.” And when he had read it in the presence of the king,	18 E anche mi diede Elcia sacerdote questo libro. Il quale letto, presente il re,
19 and he had heard the words of the law, he tore his garments.	19 egli avendo udito le parole della legge, isquarciò le sue vestimenta.
20 And he instructed Hilkiah, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Abdon, the son of Micah, and also Shaphan, the scribe, and Asaiah, the servant of the king, saying:	20 E comandò ad Elcia (sacerdote), e ad Aicam figliuolo di Safan, e ad Abdon figliuolo di Mica, e a Sefan scrivano, e ad Asaa servo del re, e disse:
21 “Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel and Judah, concerning all the words of this book, which has been found. For the great fury of the Lord has rained down upon us, because our fathers did not keep the words of the Lord, to do all that has been written in this volume.”	21 andate, e orate Iddio per me, e per le reliquie d'Israel e di Giuda, sopra tutte le parole di questo libro il quale è trovato; però che grande furore (dell' ira) di Dio istillò sopra noi, però che i nostri padri non hanno osservate le parole del Signore, facendo tutto quello che è scritto in questo volume.
22 Therefore, Hilkiah, and those who had been sent with him by the king, went to Huldah, the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the vestments. She was living in Jerusalem, in the second part. And they spoke to her the words which we explained above.	22 E andò Elcia, e quelli insieme che erano mandati dal re, ad Olda profetessa, moglie di Sellum figliuolo di Tecuat, figliuolo di Asra, guardiano delle vestimenta, la quale abitava in Ierusalem nella seconda; e dissegli le parole le quali noi abbiamo narrate di sopra.
23 And she responded to them: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Tell the man who sent you to me:	23 Ed ella rispose loro: questo dice il Signore Iddio d'Israel: dite all' uomo il quale vi mandò a me:
24 Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will lead in evils over this place, and over its inhabitants, with all the curses that have been written in this book, which they have read before the king of Judah.	24 questo dice il Signore: ecco ch' io inducerò male sopra questo luogo, e sopra i suoi abitatori [e tutte] le maledizioni le quali sono scritte in questo libro, il quale hanno letto nel cospetto del re di Giuda.
25 For they have abandoned me, and they have sacrificed to foreign gods, so that they provoked me to wrath by all the works of their hands. Therefore, my fury will rain down upon this place, and it will not be extinguished.	25 Però che hanno lasciato me, e hanno sacrificato agl' iddii altrui, per provocarmi ad iracondia in tutte l'opere delle loro mani; e però il mio furore istillerà sopra questo luogo, e non si spegnerà.
26 To the king of Judah, who sent you to petition before the Lord, so shall you speak: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Since you listened to the words of this volume,	26 E al re di Giuda, il quale v' ha mandati a pregare il Signore, direte così: questo dice il Signore Iddio d'Israel: però ch' hai udite le parole di questo volume,
27 and your heart was softened, and you humbled yourself in the sight of God concerning these things which have been said against this place and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and since, revering my face, you have torn your garments, and have wept before me: I also have heeded you, says the Lord.	27 e il tuo cuore è mollificato nel cospetto del Signore, sopra quelle cose le quali sono dette contro a questo luogo e contro agli abitatori di Ierusalem, e hai riverita la mia faccia e hai isquarciate le tue vestimenta, e hai pianto dinanzi da me; (dice il Signore) io t'hoe esaudito, dice il Signore.
28 For now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be brought into your sepulcher in peace. Neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will lead in, over this place and over its inhabitants.” And so they took back to the king all that she had said.	28 Già ti ricoglieroe a' tuoi padri, e sarai posto nella tua sepoltura in pace; e non vederanno gli occhi tuoi tutto il male, il quale io inducerò sopra questo luogo, e sopra i suoi abitatori. E rinunciarono al re tutto quello che avea detto.
29 And he, calling together all those greater by birth of Judah and Jerusalem,	29 Ed egli, convocati tutti i maggiori per nazione di Giuda e di Ierusalem,
30 ascended to the house of the Lord, united with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest. And in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, the king read all the words of the volume.	30 ascendeo nella casa di Dio, e con lui insieme tutti gli uomini di Giuda e di Ierusalem, e i sacerdoti e' Leviti e tutto il popolo, dal piccolo insino al maggiore. Li quali udendo leggere le parole di Dio, cioè del libro
31 And standing up at his tribunal, he struck a covenant before the Lord, so that he would walk after him, and would keep his precepts and testimonies and justifications, with his whole heart and with his whole soul, and so that he would do the things that were written in that volume, which he had read.	31 e istando nella sedia sua, fece patto con esso il Signore, ch' egli anderebbono dopo lui, e osserverebbono i comandamenti, i testimoni e le sue giustificazioni, con tutto il cuore suo e con tutta l'anima sua, e che farebbono quello ch' era scritto in questo libro, il quale avea letto.
32 Also, concerning this, he bound by oath all who had been found in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accord with the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers.	32 E aggiurò sopra [questo] tutti quelli i quali si ritrovarono in Ierusalem e in Beniamin; e fecero gli abitatori di Ierusalem secondo il patto del Signore Iddio de' padri loro.
33 Therefore, Josiah took away all the abominations from all the regions of the sons of Israel. And he caused all who were remaining in Israel to serve the Lord their God. During all his days, they did not withdraw from the Lord, the God of their fathers.	33 E tolse via Iosia tutte le abominazioni di tutte le contrade de' figliuoli d' Israel; e fece servire al Signore Iddio suo tutti quelli ch' erano rimasi in Israel. E tutto il tempo suo non si partirono dal Signore Iddio de' padri loro.
