1 Now Joab, the son of Zeruiah, understood that the heart of the king had been turned toward Absalom,	1 E conoscendo Ioab figliuolo di Sarvia, che il cuore di David era convertito ad Assalom,
2 so he sent to Tekoa, and he brought from there a wise woman. And he said to her: “Feign that you are in mourning, and put on the clothing of one who mourns. And do not anoint yourself with oil, so that you may be like a woman who is still grieving for someone who died some time ago.	2 mandò a Tecua, e tolse indi una savia femina, e disse a lei: infìgniti di piagnere, e vèstiti di vestimenta di pianto, e non ti ugnere d'olio, acciò che tu appari sì come femina che molto tempo pianga morto.
3 And you shall enter to the king, and you shall speak words to him in this manner.” Then Joab put the words in her mouth.	3 Ed entrerai al re, e dira'gli queste parole. E Ioab gli disse le parole.
4 And so, when the woman of Tekoa had entered to the king, she fell before him on the ground, and she reverenced, and she said, “Save me, O king.”	4 Ed essendo entrata al re quella femina di Tecua, cadde in terra dinanzi al re, e disse: salvami, re.
5 And the king said to her, “What problem do you have?” And she responded: “Alas, I am a woman who is a widow. For my husband has died.	5 E il re disse a lei che cagione n' hai (femina)? Ed ella respuose: Omè! io sono una femina vedova; il mio marito morìo.
6 And your handmaid had two sons. And they quarreled against one another in the field. And there was no one there who would be able to stop them. And one struck the other, and killed him.	6 E la serva tua avea due figliuoli, li quali s'azzuffarono nel campo, e non era persona che gli potesse dividere; onde che l'uno percosse l'altro, e ucciselo.
7 And behold, the whole family, rising up against your handmaid, said: ‘Deliver him who struck down his brother, so that we may kill him for the life of his brother, whom he killed, and so that we may do away with the heir.’ And they are seeking to extinguish my spark that is left, so that there may not survive a name for my husband, nor a remnant upon the earth.”	7 E tutto il parentado si levò contro la tua serva, e dice: dacci colui che ha morto il suo fratello, che uccidiamo lui per l'anima del fratello il quale egli uccise, e togliamo via lo erede; e cercano di spegnere quello poco lume che m' è rimaso, acciò che al mio marito non rimanga nome nè reliquia sopra la terra.
8 And the king said to the woman, “Go to your own house, and I will make a decree on your behalf.”	8 E disse il re alla femina: vattene alla tua casa, e io comanderò per te.
9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king: “May the iniquity be upon me, my lord, and upon the house of my father. But may the king and his throne be innocent.”	9 E la femina di Tecua disse al re: signore mio, questa iniquità sia in me e in casa del padre mio, e il re e la sedia sua innocente.
10 And the king said, “Whoever will contradict you, bring him to me, and he will never touch you again.”	10 E il re disse: qualunque persona ti contraddice, menala a me, e farò che non ti toccherà più.
11 And she said, “Let the king remember the Lord his God, so that close blood relatives may not be multiplied in order to take revenge, and so that they may by no means kill my son.” And he said, “As the Lord lives, not one hair from your son shall fall to the ground.”	11 Ed ella disse: ricordisi il re del suo Signore Iddio, acciò che non moltiplichinsi gli prossimi a fare la vendetta, e non uccidano il figliuolo mio. Il quale disse: vive il Signore, che de' capegli del tuo figliuolo non ne cadrà uno in terra.
12 Then the woman said, “Let your handmaid speak a word to my lord the king.” And he said, “Speak.”	12 E disse la femina: piacciati che la tua serva favelli al mio signore. E' disse: di'.
13 And the woman said: “Why have you thought such a thing against the people of God, and why has the king spoken this word, so that he sins and does not lead back the one whom he rejected?	13 E la femina disse: perchè hai tu pensata così fatta cosa contra il popolo di Dio? e ha detto il re parola di peccato, e non revoca il suo reietto?
14 We are all dying, and we are all like waters that flow into the ground and do not return. God does not will to lose a soul. Instead, he renews his efforts, thinking that what has been rejected might not perish altogether.	14 Noi moriamo tutti, e come l'acqua sopra la terra scorremo, la quale non ritorna; e non vuole Iddio, che persona perisca; ma retratta, pensando che quello che è iscacciato non perisca in tutto.
15 Therefore, now I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, in the presence of the people. And your handmaid said: I will speak to the king, for perhaps there may be some way for the king to accomplish the word of his handmaid.	15 E imperò venni, e favellerò al re mio signore, presente il popolo. E disse la serva tua: io favellarò al re, s'egli forse facesse la parola della sua ancilla.
16 And the king listened, and he freed his handmaid from the hand of all who were willing to take away me and my son together, from the inheritance of God.	16 E audì il re la serva sua, volendola liberar delle mani di tutti coloro che mi voleano togliere via della eredità di Dio, e il mio figliuolo con meco insieme.
17 Therefore, let your handmaid speak, so that the word of my lord the king may be like a sacrifice. For even like an Angel of God, so is my lord the king, so that he is moved by neither a blessing, nor a curse. Then too, the Lord your God is with you.”	17 Onde dica la tua ancilla, che la parola del signore mio re sia fatta sì come sacrificio. Però che il mio signore re si è come l'angelo di Dio, che non si muove per [benedizione nè per] maledizione; però il tuo Signore è teco.
18 And in response, the king said to the woman, “You shall not conceal from me a word of what I ask you.” And the woman said to him, “Speak, my lord the king.”	18 E respondendo il re, disse alla femina: non mi celare quello di che io ti addimanderò. Ed ella disse: [parla], signore mio.
19 And the king said, “Is not the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman answered and said: “By the welfare of your soul, my lord the king, it is neither to the left, nor to the right, in all these things that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab himself instructed me, and he himself placed all these words in the mouth of your handmaid.	19 E il re disse: è la mano di Joab teco in tutte queste cose? E quella respuose, e disse: per la salute dell' anima tua, signore mio re, che nè da parte sinistra nè diritta è nulla di quello che detto ha il mio signore; però che il servo tuo Ioab mi comandò, ed egli puose nella bocca della tua serva tutte queste parole.
20 Thus did I turn to this figure of speech, because your servant Joab instructed it. But you, my lord the king, are wise, just as an Angel of God has wisdom, so that you understand all that is upon the earth.”	20 Ch'io volgessi la figura di questo sermone, il servo tuo Ioab comandò questo: e tu re, signore mio, se'savio, come ha sapienza l'angelo di Dio, a conoscere tutte le cose sopra la terra.
21 And the king said to Joab: “Behold, your word has succeeded in appeasing me. Therefore, go and call back the boy Absalom.”	21 E disse il re a Ioab: ecco ch' io, riposato, hoe udite ed esaudite le tue parole; e però va e revoca il giovane Assalom.
22 And falling to the ground upon his face, Joab reverenced, and he blessed the king. And Joab said: “Today your servant has understood that I have found grace in your sight, my lord the king. For you have accomplished the word of your servant.”	22 E cadendo Ioab sopra il suo viso in terra, adorò e benedisse il re; e disse Ioab: oggi ha conosciuto il tuo servo, ch' io hoe trovata grazia negli occhii tuoi, signore mio re; perchè hae esaudita la parola del tuo servo.
23 Then Joab rose up, and he went away to Geshur. And he brought Absalom into Jerusalem.	23 E levossi Ioab, e andossene in Gessur, e rimenò Assalom in Ierusalem.
24 But the king said, “Let him return to his own house, but let him not see my face.” And so, Absalom returned to his own house, but he did not see the face of the king.	24 E disse il re: ritornisi in casa sua, e non veggia il mio viso. E Assalom ritornò in casa sua, e non vidde la faccia del re.
25 Now in all of Israel, there was no man so handsome, and so very stately as Absalom. From the sole of the foot to the top of the head, there was no blemish in him.	25 E in tutto Israel non era così bello uomo come Assalom, e formoso troppo, dalla pianta del piede insino. alla sommità del capo; e non era in lui alcuna macula.
26 And when he shaved off his hair, for he shaved it off once a year, because his long hair was burdensome to him, he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, by the public weights.	26 E quando si tondea i capegli, li quali tondea una volta l'anno, però che gli aggravava la zazzera, pesavano i suoi capegli a pubblico peso ducento sicli.
27 Then three sons were born to Absalom, and one daughter, of elegant form, whose name was Tamar.	27 E nacquero ad Assalom tre figliuoli; e una figliuola, la quale ebbe nome Tamar, di bella forma.
28 And Absalom remained for two years in Jerusalem, and he did not see the face of the king.	28 E istette Assalom in Ierusalem due anni, e non vidde la faccia del re.
29 And so, he sent to Joab, so that he might send him to the king. But he refused to come to him. And when he had sent a second time, and he had refused to come to him,	29 E mandò a Ioab per mandarlo al re, il quale non volse andare a lui; e mandato la seconda volta per lui, ed eglì non andò a lui.
30 he said to his servants: “You know that the field of Joab, the one that is near my field, has a harvest of barley. Therefore, go and set it on fire.” And so, the servants of Absalom set fire to the grain field. And the servants of Joab, arriving with their garments torn, said, “The servants of Absalom have set fire to part of the field!”	30 Disse ai servi suoi: sapete voi il campo di Ioab presso al campo mio, il quale è pieno d' orzo? andate, e ardetelo. E arsero gli servi di Assalom quella biada. E vennero gli servi di Ioab colle vestimenta squarciate, e dissero: gli servi di Assalom hanno arso una parte del campo.
31 And Joab rose up, and he went to Absalom at his house, and he said, “Why have your servants set fire to my grain field?”	31 E Ioab si levò, e andò a casa di Assalom, e disse a lui perchè gli servi tuoi hanno arso il mio biado?
32 And Absalom responded to Joab: “I sent to you, begging that you might come to me, and that I might send you to the king, and that you might say to him: ‘Why was I brought from Geshur? It would have been better for me to be there.’ I beg you, therefore, that I may see the face of the king. And if he is mindful of my iniquity, let him put me to death.”	32 E respuose Assalom a Ioab: io ti mandai pregando che tu venissi a me per mandarti al re, e perchè tu dicesti a lui; perchè venni io di Gessur? egli m'era meglio essere ivi; onde io priego ch' io possa vedere la faccia del re; e s' egli si ricorda della mia iniquità, uccidami.
33 And so, Joab, entering to the king, reported everything to him. And Absalom was summoned. And he entered to the king, and he reverenced on the face of the earth. And the king kissed Absalom.	33 Ed entrato Ioab al re, dissegli queste cose; e chiamato Assalom, entrò al re, e adorò in terra dinanzi a lui; e il re basciò Assalom.
