Genesis 47

1 And so Joseph entered and reported to Pharaoh, saying: “My father and brothers, their sheep and herds, and everything that they possess, have arrived from the land of Canaan. And behold, they stand together in the land of Goshen.”	1 Donc Joseph alla avertir Pharaon: "Mon père et mes frères, dit-il, sont arrivés du pays de Canaanavec leur petit et leur gros bétail et tout ce qui leur appartient; les voici dans la terre de Goshèn."
2 Likewise, he stood in the sight of the king five men, the last of his brothers.	2 Il avait pris cinq de ses frères, qu'il présenta à Pharaon.
3 And he questioned them, “What do you have for work?” They responded: “Your servants are pastors of sheep, both we and our fathers.	3 Celui-ci demanda à ses frères: "Quel est votre métier", et ils répondirent: "Tes serviteurs sont desbergers, nous-mêmes comme déjà nos pères."
4 We came to sojourn in your land, because there is no grass for the flocks of your servants, the famine being very grievous in the land of Canaan. And we petition you that you may order us, your servants, to be in the land of Goshen.”	4 Ils dirent aussi à Pharaon: "Nous sommes venus séjourner dans le pays, car il n'y a plus de pâturepour les troupeaux de tes serviteurs: la famine, en effet, accable le pays de Canaan. Permets maintenant que tesserviteurs demeurent dans la terre de Goshèn."
5 And so the king said to Joseph: “Your father and brothers have come to you.	5 Alors Pharaon dit à Joseph: Jacob et ses fils vinrent en Egypte auprès de Joseph. Pharaon, roid'Egypte, l'apprit et il dit à Joseph: "Ton père et tes frères sont arrivés près de toi. Le pays d'Egypte est à tadisposition: établis ton père et tes frères dans la meilleure région."
6 The land of Egypt is in your sight. Cause them to live in the best place, and deliver to them the land of Goshen. And if you know there to be industrious men among them, appoint these as foremen over my cattle.”	6 "Qu'ils habitent la terre de Goshèn et, si tu sais qu'il y a parmi eux des hommes capables, place-lescomme régisseurs de mes propres troupeaux."
7 After this, Joseph brought in his father to the king, and he stood him in his sight. He blessed him,	7 Alors Joseph introduisit son père Jacob et le présenta à Pharaon, et Jacob salua Pharaon.
8 and he questioned him: “How many are the days of the years of your life?”	8 Pharaon demanda à Jacob: "Combien comptes-tu d'années de vie?"
9 He responded, “The days of my sojourn are one hundred and thirty years, few and unworthy, and they do not reach even to the days of the sojourning of my fathers.”	9 Et Jacob répondit à Pharaon: "Les années de mon séjour sur terre ont été de 13 0 ans, mes annéesont été brèves et malheureuses et n'ont pas atteint l'âge de mes pères, les années de leur séjour."
10 And blessing the king, he went outside.	10 Jacob salua Pharaon et prit congé de lui.
11 Truly, Joseph gave his father and brothers a possession in Egypt, in the best place of the land, in Rameses, as Pharaoh had instructed.	11 Joseph établit son père et ses frères et il leur donna une propriété au pays d'Egypte, dans lameilleure région, la terre de Ramsès, comme l'avait ordonné Pharaon.
12 And he fed them, along with all his father’s house, providing portions of food to each one.	12 Joseph procura du pain à son père, à ses frères et à toute la famille de son père, selon le nombredes personnes à leur charge.
13 For in the whole world there was a lack of bread, and a famine had oppressed the land, most of all Egypt and Canaan,	13 Il n'y avait pas de pain sur toute la terre, car la famine était devenue très dure et le pays d'Egypteet le pays de Canaan languissaient de faim.
14 from which he gathered together all the money for the grain that they bought, and he took it into the treasury of the king.	14 Joseph ramassa tout l'argent qui se trouvait au pays d'Egypte et au pays de Canaan en échange dugrain qu'on achetait et il livra cet argent au palais de Pharaon.
15 And when the buyers had run out of money, all Egypt came to Joseph, saying: “Give us bread. Why should we die in your sight, lacking money?”	15 Lorsque fut épuisé l'argent du pays d'Egypte et du pays de Canaan, tous les Egyptiens vinrent àJoseph en disant:"Donne-nous du pain! Pourquoi devrions-nous mourir sous tesyeux? Car il n'y a plus d'argent."
16 And he responded to them: “Bring me your cattle, and I will give food to you in exchange for them, if you do not have money.”	16 Alors Joseph leur dit: "Livrez vos troupeaux et je vous donnerai du pain en échange de vostroupeaux, s'il n'y a plus d'argent."
17 And when they had brought them, he gave them food for their horses, and sheep, and oxen, and donkeys. And he sustained them in that year in exchange for their cattle.	17 Ils amenèrent leurs troupeaux à Joseph et celui-ci leur donna du pain pour prix des chevaux, dupetit et du gros bétail et des ânes; il les nourrit de pain, cette année-là, en échange de leurs troupeaux.
18 Likewise, they came the second year, and they said to him: “We will not conceal from our lord that our money is gone; likewise our cattle are gone. Neither are you unaware that we have nothing left but our bodies and our land.	18 Lorsque fut écoulée cette année-là, ils revinrent vers lui l'année suivante et lui dirent: "Nous nepouvons le cacher à Monseigneur: vraiment l'argent est épuisé et les bestiaux sont déjà à Monseigneur, il ne resteà la disposition de Monseigneur que notre corps et notre terroir.
19 Therefore, why should you watch us die? Both we and our land will be yours. Buy us into royal servitude, but provide seed, lest by the dying off of cultivators the land be reduced to a wilderness.”	19 Pourquoi devrions-nous mourir sous tes yeux, nous et notre terroir? Acquiers donc nos personneset notre terroir pour du pain, et nous serons, avec notre terroir, les serfs de Pharaon. Mais donne-nous de quoisemer pour que nous restions en vie et ne mourions pas et que notre terroir ne soit pas désolé."
20 Therefore, Joseph bought all the land of Egypt, each one selling his possessions because of the magnitude of the famine. And he subjected it to Pharaoh,	20 Ainsi Joseph acquit pour Pharaon tout le terroir d'Egypte, car les Egyptiens vendirent chacun sonchamp, tant les pressait la famine, et le pays passa aux mains de Pharaon.
21 along with all of its people, from the newest borders of Egypt, even to its furthest limits,	21 Quant aux gens, il les réduisit en servage, d'un bout à l'autre du territoire égyptien.
22 except the land of the priests, which had been delivered to them by the king. To these also a portion of food was supplied out of the public storehouses, and, for this reason, they were not compelled to sell their possessions.	22 Il n'y eut que le terroir des prêtres qu'il n'acquit pas, car les prêtres recevaient une rente dePharaon et vivaient de la rente qu'ils recevaient de Pharaon. Aussi n'eurent-ils pas à vendre leur terroir.
23 Therefore, Joseph said to the people: “So, as you discern, both you and your lands are possessed by Pharaoh; take seed and sow the fields,	23 Puis Joseph dit au peuple: "Donc, je vous ai maintenant acquis pour Pharaon, avec votre terroir.Voici pour vous de la semence, pour ensemencer votre terroir.
24 so that you may be able to have grain. One fifth part you will give to the king; the remaining four I permit to you, as seed and as food for your families and children.	24 Mais, sur la récolte, vous devrez donner un cinquième à Pharaon, et les quatre autres parts serontà vous, pour la semence du champ, pour votre nourriture et celle de votre famille, pour la nourriture despersonnes à votre charge."
25 And they responded: “Our health is in your hand; only let our lord look kindly upon us, and we will serve the king with gladness.”	25 Ils répondirent: "Tu nous as sauvé la vie! Puissions-nous seulement trouver grâce aux yeux deMonseigneur, et nous serons les serfs de Pharaon."
26 From that time, even to the present day, in the entire land of Egypt, the fifth part is turned over to the kings, and it has become like a law, except in the land of the priests, which was free from this condition.	26 De cela, Joseph fit une règle, qui vaut encore aujourd'hui pour le terroir d'Egypte: on verse lecinquième à Pharaon. Seul le terroir des prêtres ne fut pas à Pharaon.
27 And so, Israel lived in Egypt, that is, in the land of Goshen, and he possessed it. And he increased and was multiplied exceedingly.	27 Ainsi Israël s'établit au pays d'Egypte dans la terre de Goshèn. Ils y acquirent des propriétés,furent féconds et devinrent très nombreux.
28 And he lived in it seventeen years. And all the days of his life that passed were one hundred and forty-seven years.	28 Jacob vécut dix-sept ans au pays d'Egypte et la durée de la vie de Jacob fut de 14 7 ans.
29 And when he discerned that the day of his death was approaching, he called his son Joseph, and he said to him: “If I have found favor in your sight, place your hand under my thigh. And you shall show me mercy and truth, not to bury me in Egypt.	29 Lorsqu'approcha pour Israël le temps de sa mort, il appela son fils Joseph et lui dit: "Si j'ai tonaffection, mets ta main sous ma cuisse, montre-moi bienveillance et bonté: ne m'enterre pas en Egypte!
30 But I shall sleep with my fathers, and you will carry me from this land and bury me in the sepulcher of my ancestors.” And Joseph answered him, “I will do what you have ordered.”	30 Quand je serai couché avec mes pères, tu m'emporteras d'Egypte et tu m'enterreras dans leurtombeau." Il répondit: "Je ferai comme tu as dit."
31 And he said, “Then swear it to me.” And as he was swearing, Israel adored God, turning to the head of his resting place.	31 Mais son père insista: "Prête-moi serment", et il lui prêta serment, pendant qu'Israël se prosternaitsur le chevet de son lit.
