Genesis 4

1 Truly, Adam knew his wife Eve, who conceived and gave birth to Cain, saying, “I have obtained a man through God.”	1 El hombre se unió a Eva, su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Caín. Entonces dijo: «He procreado un varón, con la ayuda del Señor».
2 And again she gave birth to his brother Abel. But Abel was a pastor of sheep, and Cain was a farmer.	2 Más tarde dio a luz a Abel, el hermano de Caín, Abel fue pastor de ovejas y Caín agricultor.
3 Then it happened, after many days, that Cain offered gifts to the Lord, from the fruits of the earth.	3 Al cabo de un tiempo, Caín presentó como ofrenda al Señor algunos frutos del suelo,
4 Abel likewise offered from the firstborn of his flock, and from their fat. And the Lord looked with favor on Abel and his gifts.	4 mientras que Abel le ofreció las primicias y lo mejor de su rebaño. El Señor miró con agrado a Abel y su ofrenda,
5 Yet in truth, he did not look with favor on Cain and his gifts. And Cain was vehemently angry, and his countenance fell.	5 pero no miró a Caín ni su ofrenda. Caín se mostró muy resentido y agachó la cabeza.
6 And the Lord said to him: “Why are you angry? And why is your face fallen?	6 El Señor le dijo: «¿Por qué estás resentido y tienes la cabeza baja?
7 If you behave well, will you not receive? But if you behave badly, will not sin at once be present at the door? And so its desire will be within you, and you will be dominated by it.”	7 Si obras bien podrás mantenerla erguida; si obras mal, el pecado está agazapado a la puerta y te acecha, pero tú debes dominarlo».
8 And Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go outside.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and he put him to death.	8 Caín dijo a su hermano Abel: «Vamos afuera». Y cuando estuvieron en el campo, se abalanzó sobre su hermano y lo mató.
9 And the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he responded: “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”	9 Entonces el Señor preguntó a Caín: «¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel?». «No lo sé», respondió Caín. «¿Acaso yo soy el guardián de mi hermano?».
10 And he said to him: “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the land.	10 Pero el Señor le replicó: «¿Qué has hecho? ¡Escucha! La sangre de tu hermano grita hacia mí desde el suelo.
11 Now, therefore, you will be cursed upon the land, which opened its mouth and received the blood of your brother at your hand.	11 Por eso maldito seas lejos del suelo que abrió sus fauces para recibir la sangre de tu hermano derramada por ti.
12 When you work it, it will not give you its fruit; a vagrant and a fugitive shall you be upon the land.”	12 Cuando lo cultives, no te dará más su fruto, y andarás por la tierra errante y vagabundo».
13 And Cain said to the Lord: “My iniquity is too great to deserve kindness.	13 Caín respondió al Señor: «Mi castigo es demasiado grande para poder sobrellevarlo.
14 Behold, you have cast me out this day before the face of the earth, and from your face I will be hidden; and I will be a vagrant and a fugitive on the earth. Therefore, anyone who finds me will kill me.”	14 Hoy me arrojas lejos del suelo fértil; yo tendré que ocultarme de tu presencia y andar por la tierra errante y vagabundo, y el primero que me salga al paso me matará».
15 And the Lord said to him: “By no means will it be so; rather, whoever would kill Cain, will be punished sevenfold.” And the Lord placed a seal upon Cain, so that anyone who found him would not put him to death.	15 «Si es así, le dijo el Señor, el que mate a Caín deberá pagarlo siete veces». Y el Señor puso una marca a Caín, para que al encontrarse con él, nadie se atreviera a matarlo.
16 And so Cain, departing from the face of the Lord, lived as a fugitive on the earth, toward the eastern region of Eden.	16 Luego Caín se alejó de la presencia del Señor y fue a vivir a la región de Nod, al este de Edén.
17 Then Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And he built a city, and he called its name by the name of his son, Enoch.	17 Caín se unió a su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Henoc. Caín fue el fundador de una ciudad, a la que puso el nombre de su hijo Henoc.
18 Thereafter, Enoch conceived Irad, and Irad conceived Mahujael, and Mahujael conceived Mathusael, and Mathusael conceived Lamech.	18 A Henoc le nació Irad. Irad fue padre de Mejuíael; Mejuíael fue padre de Metusael, y Metusael fue padre de Lamec.
19 Lamech took two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the other was Zillah.	19 Lamec tuvo dos mujeres: una se llamaba Adá, y la otra, Silá.
20 And Adah conceived Jabel, who was the father of those who live in tents and are shepherds.	20 Adá fue madre de Iabal, el antepasado de los que viven en campamentos y crían ganado.
21 And the name of his brother was Jubal; he was the father of those who sing to the harp and the organ.	21 El nombre de su hermano era Iubal, el antepasado de los que tocan la lira y la flauta.
22 Zillah also conceived Tubalcain, who was a hammerer and artisan in every work of brass and iron. In fact, the sister of Tubalcain was Noema.	22 Silá, por su parte, fue madre de Tubal Caín, el antepasado de los forjadores de bronce y de los herreros. Naamá fue hermana de Tubal Caín.
23 And Lamech said to his wives Adah and Zillah: “Listen to my voice, you wives of Lamech, pay attention to my speech. For I have killed a man to my own harm, and an adolescent to my own bruising.	23 Lamec dijo a sus mujeres: «¡Adá y Silá, escuchen mi voz: mujeres de Lamec, oigan mi palabra! Yo maté a un hombre por una herida, y a un muchacho por una contusión.
24 Sevenfold vengeance will be given for Cain, but for Lamech, seventy-seven times.”	24 Porque Caín será vengado siete veces, pero Lamec lo será setenta y siete».
25 Adam also knew his wife again, and she gave birth to a son, and she called his name Seth, saying, “God has given me another offspring, in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.”	25 Adán se unió a su mujer, y ella tuvo un hijo, al que puso el nombre de Set, diciendo: «Dios me dio otro descendiente en lugar de Abel, porque Caín lo mató».
26 But to Seth also was born a son, whom he called Enos. This one began to invoke the name of the Lord.	26 También Set tuvo un hijo, al que llamó Enós. Fue entonces cuando se comenzó a invocar el nombre del Señor.
