1 My brothers, do not let class distinction enter into your faith in Jesus Christ, our glorified Lord.	1 - Fratelli miei, che la vostra fede nel glorioso Signor nostro Gesù Cristo non abbia riguardi personali!
2 Now suppose a man comes into your synagogue, well-dressed and with a gold ring on, and at thesame time a poor man comes in, in shabby clothes,	2 Poichè se nella vostra adunanza entrerà un uomo con un anello d'oro e un vestito splendido e vi entrerà pure un povero ricoperto di cenci;
3 and you take notice of the wel -dressed man, and say, 'Come this way to the best seats'; then you tellthe poor man, 'Stand over there' or 'You can sit on the floor by my foot-rest.'	3 se la vostra attenzione fosse rivolta a colui che è vestito sfarzosamente e diceste a lui: «Siedi qui al posto d'onore!», mentre al povero dite: «Tu sta' ritto così», oppure: «Siedi sotto lo sgabello, de' miei piedi»,
4 In making this distinction among yourselves have you not used a corrupt standard?	4 non verreste voi a far distinzione dentro di voi e non diventereste giudici di malvagi pensieri?
5 Listen, my dear brothers: it was those who were poor according to the world that God chose, to be richin faith and to be the heirs to the kingdom which he promised to those who love him.	5 Ascoltate, fratelli miei dilettissimi; non ha forse Dio scelto quelli che in questo mondo son poveri [per farli] ricchi di fede ed eredi del regno promesso da Dio a coloro che lo amano?
6 You, on the other hand, have dishonoured the poor. Is it not the rich who lord it over you?	6 Voi, [così facendo], avete disprezzato il povero. Non sono forse i ricchi che vi opprimono e vi trascinano ai tribunali?
7 Are not they the ones who drag you into court, who insult the honourable name which has beenpronounced over you?	7 Non sono essi che oltraggiano il bel nome, col quale voi siete chiamati?
8 Well, the right thing to do is to keep the supreme Law of scripture: you will love your neighbour asyourself;	8 Se però adempite la legge regia, secondo le Scritture: "Amerai il tuo prossimo come te stesso", fate bene;
9 but as soon as you make class distinctions, you are committing sin and under condemnation forbreaking the Law.	9 ma se fate distinzioni personali, commettete un peccato e la legge vi condanna come trasgressori.
10 You see, anyone who keeps the whole of the Law but trips up on a single point, is stil guilty ofbreaking it al .	10 Ora chiunque osserverà tutta la legge, ma mancherà in un punto solo, diventerà reo di tutto.
11 He who said, 'You must not commit adultery' said also, 'You must not kil .' Now if you commit murder,you need not commit adultery as wel to become a breaker of the Law.	11 Poichè chi disse: «Non fornicare», ha detto pure: «Non uccidere». Ora se tu non fornicherai, ma ucciderai, sarai trasgressore della legge.
12 Talk and behave like people who are going to be judged by the law of freedom.	12 Parlate ed agite come [persone] che stanno per essere giudicate secondo una legge di libertà;
13 Whoever acts without mercy wil be judged without mercy but mercy can afford to laugh at judgement.	13 perchè il giudizio sarà senza misericordia per chi non ha usata misericordia; ma la misericordia trionfa nel giudizio.
14 How does it help, my brothers, when someone who has never done a single good act claims to havefaith? Wil that faith bring salvation?	14 Che giova, fratelli miei, se uno dice di aver fede, ma non ha le opere? Potrà forse salvarlo la fede?
15 If one of the brothers or one of the sisters is in need of clothes and has not enough food to live on,	15 Se un fratello o una sorella sono ignudi e bisognosi del vitto quotidiano,
16 and one of you says to them, 'I wish you well; keep yourself warm and eat plenty,' without giving themthese bare necessities of life, then what good is that?	16 e uno di voi dica: «Andate in pace, riscaldatevi e satollatevi», senza dar loro le cose necessarie al corpo, che gioverà?
17 In the same way faith, if good deeds do not go with it, is quite dead.	17 Così la fede, se non ha le opere, è morta in se stessa.
18 But someone may say: So you have faith and I have good deeds? Show me this faith of yours withoutdeeds, then! It is by my deeds that I will show you my faith.	18 Ma qualcuno dirà: «Tu hai la fede ed io le opere». Mostrami la tua fede senza le opere, e io ti farò vedere con le opere la mia fede.
19 You believe in the one God -- that is creditable enough, but even the demons have the same belief,and they tremble with fear.	19 Tu credi che Dio è uno; fai bene; anche i demonii credono e tremano.
20 Fool! Would you not like to know that faith without deeds is useless?	20 Ma vuoi tu conoscere, o uomo vano, come la fede senza le opere è inefficace?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by his deed, because he offered his son Isaac on the altar?	21 Abramo, padre nostro, non è stato egli giustificato per via delle opere, quando offrì sull'altare il suo figliuolo Isacco?
22 So you can see that his faith was working together with his deeds; his faith became perfect by what hedid.	22 Vedi come la fede cooperava alle opere di lui, e per mezzo delle opere fu resa perfetta la fede?
23 In this way the scripture was fulfil ed: Abraham put his faith in God, and this was considered asmaking him upright; and he received the name 'friend of God'.	23 E si adempì la Scrittura che dice: " Abramo credette a Dio e gli fu imputato a giustizia ", e fu chiamato amico di Dio.
24 You see now that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified.	24 Vedete voi come l'uomo è giustificato per le opere e non per la fede soltanto?
25 There is another example of the same kind: Rahab the prostitute, was she not justified by her deedsbecause she welcomed the messengers and showed them a different way to leave?	25 Allo stesso modo, Raab, la meretrice, non fu anch'essa giustificata per le opere, quando accolse i messaggeri e li fece partire per un'altra strada?
26 As a body without a spirit is dead, so is faith without deeds.	26 Poichè come il corpo senza lo spirito è morto, così anche la fede senza le opere è morta.
