Joshua 20

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Yahweh said to Joshua,	1 Il Signore così parlò a Giosuè:
2 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them, "Choose yourselves the cities of refuge of which I spoke toyou through Moses,	2 "Rivolgi la parola ai figli d'Israele e di' loro: "Sceglietevi le città di rifugio, delle quali vi ho parlato per mezzo di Mosè,
3 to which anyone who has accidental y (unintentional y) kil ed someone else may flee, and which wilserve you as refuge from the avenger of blood.	3 in modo che vi si possa rifugiare l'omicida che ha ucciso per inavvertenza, senza accorgersene; esse saranno di rifugio contro il vendicatore del sangue,
4 (The kil er must flee to one of these towns. He will stop at the entrance to the town gate and explain hiscase to the town elders. These wil admit him to their town and assign him a place to live among them.	4 e quando sarà fuggito in una di queste città, si fermerà all'ingresso della porta della città ed esporrà il suo caso agli anziani di quella città. Essi lo riceveranno nella loro città, gli assegneranno un posto, sì ch'egli possa abitare con essi.
5 If the avenger of blood pursues him, they must not hand the kil er over to him, since he has kil ed hisfel ow unintentionally and was not motivated by long-standing hatred for him.	5 Se il vendicatore del sangue lo inseguirà, non gli consegneranno in mano l'omicida, perché egli ha percosso il suo vicino senza accorgersene, né prima gli ha portato odio.
6 He must stay in this town) until he is brought to trial before the community (until the death of the highpriest then in office. Only then may the kil er go back to his own town and to his own house in the town fromwhich he has fled)."	6 Egli rimarrà nella città fino alla morte del sommo sacerdote che sarà in carica in quel tempo e dopo essere comparso in giudizio davanti all'assemblea. Allora l'uccisore potrà tornare e andare alla sua città, nella sua casa, nella città cioè dalla quale era fuggito".
7 For this purpose they designated Kedesh in Galilee, in the highlands of Naphtali, Shechem in thehighlands of Ephraim, and Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah.	7 Essi scelsero Kades in Galilea, sulle montagne di Neftali, Sichem sulle montagne di Efraim e Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, sui monti di Giuda.
8 On the other, eastern, side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, in the desert of the tableland, they choseBezer of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe ofManasseh.	8 Oltre il Giordano, a oriente di Gerico, scelsero Bezer nella regione desertica dell'altipiano della tribù di Ruben; Ramot nel Gàlaad della tribù di Gad e Golan nel Basan, nella tribù di Manasse.
9 Such were the towns designated for al the Israelites and for foreigners living among them, so thatanyone who had accidental y kil ed someone could flee there and might escape the hand of the avenger ofblood, until brought to trial before the community.	9 Queste furono le città stabilite per tutti i figli d'Israele e gli stranieri che abitavano in mezzo a loro, perché potesse rifugiarvisi chiunque avesse ucciso per inavvertenza e non essere ucciso dal vendicatore del sangue, prima di essere comparso davanti all'assemblea.
