NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
'The Dwelling itself you wil make with ten sheets of finely woven linen dyed violet-purple, red-purpleand crimson. You will have them embroidered with great winged creatures.1 Habitaculum vero ita facies: decem cortinas de bysso re torta et hyacintho ac purpura coccoque cum cherubim opere polymito facies.
The length of a single sheet is to be twenty-eight cubits, its width four cubits, al the sheets to be of thesame size.2 Longitudo cortinae unius habebit viginti octo cubitos, latitudo quattuor cubitorum erit. Unius mensurae fient universae cortinae.
Five of the sheets are to be joined to one another, and the other five sheets are to be joined to oneanother.3 Quinque cortinae sibi iungentur mutuo, et aliae quinque nexu simili cohaerebunt.
You will make violet loops along the edge of the first sheet, at the end of the set, and do the samealong the edge of the last sheet in the other set.4 Ansulas hyacinthinas in latere facies cortinae unius in extremitate iuncturae et similiter facies in latere cortinae extremae in iunctura altera.
You will make fifty loops on the first sheet and fifty loops along the outer edge of the sheet of thesecond set, the loops corresponding to one another.5 Quinquaginta ansulas facies in cortina una et quinquaginta ansulas facies in summitate cortinae, quae est in iunctura altera, ita insertas, ut ansa contra ansam veniat.
You will also make fifty gold clasps, and join the sheets together with the clasps. In this way theDwelling wil be a unified whole.6 Facies et quinquaginta fibulas aureas, quibus cortinarum vela iungenda sunt, ut unum habitaculum fiat.
'You will make sheets of goats' hair to form a tent over the Dwel ing; you wil make eleven of these.7 Facies et saga cilicina undecim pro tabernaculo super habitaculum.
The length of a single sheet must be thirty cubits and its width four cubits, the eleven sheets to be alof the same size.8 Longitudo sagi unius habebit triginta cubitos et latitudo quattuor; aequa erit mensura sagorum omnium.
You will join five sheets together into one set, and six sheets into another; the sixth you wil fold doubleover the front of the tent.9 E quibus quinque iunges seorsum et sex sibi mutuo copulabis, ita ut sextum sagum in fronte tecti duplices.
You wil make fifty loops along the edge of the first sheet, at the end of the first set, and fifty loopsalong the edge of the sheet of the second set.10 Facies et quinquaginta ansas in ora sagi ultimi iuncturae unius et quinquaginta ansas in ora sagi iuncturae alterius.
You wil make fifty bronze clasps and insert the clasps into the loops, to draw the tent together and tomake it a unified whole.11 Facies et quinquaginta fibulas aeneas, quibus iungantur ansae, ut unum ex omnibus tabernaculum fiat.
'Of the extra part of the sheets that overlap, half is to hang down the back of the Dwel ing.12 Quod autem superfuerit in sagis, quae parantur tecto, id est unum sagum, quod amplius est, ex medietate eius operies posteriora habitaculi;
The extra cubit on either side along the length of the tent sheets must hang down the sides of theDwelling on either side to cover it.13 et cubitus ex una parte pendebit, et alter ex altera, qui plus est in longitudine sagorum tabernaculi utrumque latus habitaculi protegens.
'And for the tent you will make a cover of rams' skins dyed red and a cover of fine leather over that.14 Facies et operimentum aliud pro tabernaculo de pellibus arietum rubricatis et super hoc rursum aliud operimentum de pellibus delphini.
'For the Dwelling you wil make vertical frames of acacia wood.15 Facies et tabulas stantes habitaculi de lignis acaciae,
Each frame must be ten cubits long and one and a half cubits wide.16 quae singulae denos cubitos in longitudine habeant et in latitudine singulos ac semissem.
Each frame must have twin tenons; that is how al the frames for the Dwelling must be made.17 In tabula una duo pedes fient, quibus tabula alteri tabulae conectatur; atque in hunc modum cunctae tabulae habitaculi parabuntur.
You wil make frames for the Dwel ing: twenty frames for the south side, to the south,18 Quarum viginti erunt in latere meridiano, quod vergit ad austrum;
and make forty silver sockets under the twenty frames, two sockets under one frame for its twotenons, two sockets under the next frame for its two tenons;19 quibus quadraginta bases argenteas fundes, ut binae bases singulis pedibus singularum tabularum subiciantur.
and for the other side of the Dwel ing, the north side, twenty frames20 In latere quoque secundo habitaculi, quod vergit ad aquilonem, viginti tabulae erunt,
and forty silver sockets, two sockets under one frame, two sockets under the next frame.21 quadraginta habentes bases argenteas; binae bases singulis tabulis supponentur.
For the back of the Dwel ing, on the west, you wil make six frames,22 Ad occidentalem vero plagam in tergo habitaculi facies sex tabulas;
and make two frames for the corners at the back of the Dwel ing;23 et rursum alias duas, quae in angulis erigantur, post tergum habitaculi.
these must be coupled together at the bottom, and right up to the top, to the level of the first ring; thisfor the two frames that must form the two corners.24 Eruntque geminae a deorsum usque sursum in compaginem unam; ita erit duabus istis, pro duabus angulis erunt.
Thus there wil be eight frames with their silver sockets: sixteen sockets; two sockets under oneframe and two sockets under the next frame.25 Et erunt simul tabulae octo, bases earum argenteae sedecim, duabus basibus per unam tabulam supputatis.
'You wil make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames of the first side of the Dwelling,26 Facies et vectes de lignis acaciae, quinque ad continendas tabulas in uno latere habitaculi
five crossbars for the frames of the opposite side of the Dwel ing, and five crossbars for the frameswhich form the back of the Dwel ing, to the west.27 et quinque alios in altero et eiusdem numeri in tergo ad occidentalem plagam;
The middle bar must join the frames from one end to the other, halfway up.28 vectis autem medius transibit per medias tabulas a summo usque ad summum.
You wil overlay the frames with gold, make gold rings for them, through which to place thecrossbars, and overlay the crossbars with gold.29 Ipsasque tabulas deaurabis et fundes eis anulos aureos, per quos vectes tabulata contineant, quos operies laminis aureis.
This is how you must erect the Dwel ing, fol owing the design shown you on the mountain.30 Et eriges habitaculum iuxta exemplar, quod tibi in monte monstratum est.
'You wil make a curtain of finely woven linen, dyed violet-purple, red-purple and crimson, andembroidered with great winged creatures,31 Facies et velum de hyacintho et purpura coccoque et bysso retorta, opere polymito, cum cherubim intextis.
and put it on four poles of acacia wood overlaid with gold, with golden hooks for them, set in foursockets of silver.32 Quod appendes in quattuor columnis de lignis acaciae, quae ipsae quidem deauratae erunt et habebunt uncos aureos, sed bases argenteas.
You wil put the curtain below the clasps, so that inside behind the curtain, you can place the ark ofthe Testimony, and the curtain wil mark the division for you between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies.33 Inseres autem velum subter fibulas, intra quod pones arcam testimonii et quo sanctum et sanctum sanctorum dividentur.
You wil put the mercy-seat on the ark of the Testimony in the Holy of Holies.34 Pones et propitiatorium super arcam testimonii in sancto sanctorum
You wil place the table outside the curtain, and the lamp-stand on the south side of the Dwel ing,opposite the table; you will put the table on the north side.35 mensamque extra velum et contra mensam candelabrum in latere habitaculi meridiano; mensa enim stabit in parte aquilonis.
For the entrance to the tent you wil make a screen of finely woven linen embroidered with violet-purple, red-purple and crimson,36 Facies et velum in introitu tabernaculi de hyacintho et purpura coccoque et bysso retorta opere plumarii.
and for the screen you wil make five poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, with goldenhooks, and for them you wil cast five sockets of bronze.'37 Et quinque columnas deaurabis lignorum acaciae, ante quas ducetur velum, quarum erunt unci aurei et bases aeneae.
