2 Chronicles 32

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 After these loyal actions, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced and invaded Judah, and laid siege tothe fortified towns, intending to demolish them.	1 Dopo queste cose e questa verità, venne Sennacherib re degli Assirii; ed entrando in Giuda, assediò cittadi fornite, volendole prendere.
2 Hezekiah, realising that Sennacherib's advance was the preliminary to an attack on Jerusalem,	2 La quale cosa udita Ezechia, cioè che Sennacherib era venuto, e che tutto lo impeto della battaglia si convertia inverso Ierusalem,
3 consulted his officers and warriors about sealing off the waters of the springs outside the city, and theysupported him.	3 tenuto consiglio coi principi suoi, e uomini fortissimi, di otturare il capo delle fonti, le quali erano di fuori della città, ed essendo questo confermato per sentenza di tutti,
4 So a large number of people were cal ed out to block al the springs and cut off the watercourseflowing through the country. 'Why', they said, 'should the kings of Assyria find plenty of water when they arrive?'	4 congregoe grande moltitudine, e otturarono tutte le fonti, e il rivo il quale correa per lo mezzo della terra, dicendo: acciò che non vengano i re degli Assirii, e non trovino abbondanza d' acqua.
5 Acting with determination, he also repaired al the damaged parts of the wal , built towers on it,constructed a second wal on the outer side, strengthened the Mil o of the City of David and made quantities ofmissiles and shields.	5 E industriosamente edificò tutto il muro il quale era istato disfatto, e fecevi disopra torri, e di fuori uno altro muro; e racconciò Mello nella città di David, e fece armatura di diverse generazioni, e scuda.
6 He then appointed generals to command the people, summoned them to him in the square by the citygate and spoke as fol ows to encourage them,	6 E ordinò i prìncipi de' combattitori nello esercito; e convocogli tutti nella piazza della porta della città, e favelloe al cuore di loro, dicendo:
7 'Be strong and brave; do not be afraid or tremble when you face the king of Assyria and the wholehorde he brings with him, for there are more on our side than on his.	7 valentemente fate, e confortatevi e non abbiate paura, e non temete il re degli Assirii, nè tutta la moltitudine la quale è con esso lui; però che molto più ne sono con esso noi, che con loro.
8 He has only human strength, but we have Yahweh our God to help us and fight our battles.' Thepeople took heart at the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.	8 Con loro si è braccio di carne; e con esso noi si è il nostro Signore Iddio, il quale è nostro aiutatore, e combatterà per noi. E tutto il popolo si confortò per queste parole di Ezechia re di Giuda.
9 Next, Sennacherib king of Assyria, who was then besieging Lachish with all his forces, sent hisrepresentatives to Jerusalem, to Hezekiah king of Judah, and al Judah at Jerusalem, with the fol owingmessage,	9 E dopo che queste cose furono fatte, mandò Sennacherib re degli Assirii i suoi servi in Ierusalem; ed egli con tutto il suo esercito assediavano Lachis; ad Ezechia re di Giuda, e a tutto il popolo il quale era nella città, dicendo:
10 'Sennacherib king of Assyria says this, "What gives you the confidence to remain in the fortress ofJerusalem?	10 Questo dice Sennacherib re degli Assirii: in chi avendo fidanza sedete assediati in Ierusalem?
11 Isn't Hezekiah deluding you, only to condemn you to die of famine and thirst, when he says: Yahwehour God wil save us from the King of Assyria's clutches?	11 E ingànnavi Ezechia per conducervi alla morte di fame e di sete, affermando che il vostro Signore vi libererà delle mani del re degli Assirii?
12 Isn't Hezekiah the very man who has suppressed his high places and altars, and given the order toJudah and to Jerusalem: You must worship before one altar and on that alone offer incense?	12 Non è egli questo Ezechia, il quale disfece i luoghi alti suoi e' suoi altari, e comandò a Ginda e a Ierusalem, dicendo: voi adorerete dinanzi ad uno altare, e in quello voi arderete lo incenso?
13 Don't you know what I and my ancestors have done to al the peoples of the other countries? Havethe national gods of those countries had the slightest success in saving their countries from my clutches?	13 E non sapete voi quello ch' io e i miei padri avemo fatto ai popoli di tutte le terre? Hanno egli potuto, tutti gli dii delle terre e delle genti, liberare i suoi reami della mia mano?
14 Of al the gods of those nations whom my ancestors devoted to destruction, which one has been ableto save his people from my clutches, for your god to be able to save you from my clutches?	14 Chi è di tutti gli dii delle genti, le quali i miei padri hanno disfatte, che abbia potuto liberare il suo popolo della mia mano, che possa il vostro Iddio liberare voi della mia mano?
15 Do not let Hezekiah mislead you. Do not let him delude you like this. Do not believe him, for no godof any nation or kingdom has been able to save his people from me or from my ancestors' clutches. No more wilyour god be able to save you from my clutches." '	15 Onde non v' inganni Ezechia, nè con vana suasione vi beffi, e non gli credete. S' egli non fu veruno Dio di tutte le genti, il quale potesse liberare il suo popolo della mia mano e della mano dei padri miei, sèguita anco, che il vostro Iddio non potrà (anco) liberare voi di questa mano.
16 And his representatives said a great deal more, maligning Yahweh God, and his servant Hezekiah.	16 E anche molte cose gli servi di Sennacherib dissono contro a Dio, e contro al suo servo Ezechia.
17 He also wrote a letter to insult Yahweh, God of Israel, maligning him as follows, 'Just as the nationalgods of the other countries could not save their peoples from my clutches, so Hezekiah's god cannot save hispeople from my clutches.'	17 E scrisse anche lettere, piene di blasfemie contro al Signore Iddio d' Israel, e favelloe contra di lui: sì come gli dii di tutte l'altre genti non hanno potuto liberare i suoi popoli della mia mano, così il Dio di Ezechia non potrà liberare il popolo suo di questa mano.
18 They then shouted loudly in the Judaean language to the people of Jerusalem on the ramparts tofrighten and confuse them, in the hope of capturing the city,	18 E sopra questo, con grande rumore, in lingua Giudea gridavano al popolo il quale sedea sopra le mura di Ierusalem, per isbigottirgli, e per prendere la città.
19 maligning the God of Jerusalem as though he were one of the man-made gods of other peoples inthe world.	19 E favelloe contro lo Iddio di Ierusalem, si come [contro] gli dii de' popoli e delle terre, li quali sono opere di mano d' uomini.
20 Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed and cried out to Heaven about this,	20 E orarono Ezechia re, e Isaia figliuolo di Amos profeta, per quella blasfemia; e gridarono insino al cielo.
21 and Yahweh sent an angel who destroyed every warrior, commander and officer in the king ofAssyria's camp. So he had to retire shamefacedly to his own country and when he went into the temple of hisgod, some of his own sons there struck him down with the sword.	21 E il Signore mandò l'angiolo, il quale percosse ogni uomo robusto e combattitore e 'l principe [dello esercito] del re degli Assirii; e ritornò con vergogna nella terra sua. Ed entrato lui nella casa del suo iddio, i suoi figliuoli, i quali erano usciti del suo ventre, sì l'uccisero di coltello.
22 So Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the clutches of Sennacherib kingof Assyria and of everyone else, and gave them peace on every side.	22 E salvò il Signore Ezechia e gli abitatori di Ierusalem delle mani di Sennacherib re degli Assirii, e delle mani di tutti (i suoi nemici), e diede loro pace dintorno.
23 Many people then brought gifts to Yahweh in Jerusalem and valuable presents to Hezekiah king ofJudah; from then on, all the other nations held him in high esteem.	23 E molti portavano ostie e sacrificii al Signore in Ierusalem, e presenti ad Ezechia re di Giuda; il quale fu esaltato, dopo questo, nel cospetto di tutte le genti.
24 About then Hezekiah fel il and was at the point of death. He prayed to Yahweh, who heard him andgranted him a sign.	24 E in quello tempo infermò Ezechia insino alla morte, e oroe al Signore; ed esaudillo, e diedegli segnale.
25 But Hezekiah made no return for the benefit which he had received; he became proud and broughtretribution on himself and on Judah and Jerusalem.	25 Ma egli non rendeo secondo i beneficii i quali avea ricevuti, però che il suo cuore si levoe; e fu fatta l'ira [contra lui, e] contra Giuda e Ierusalem.
26 Then, however, Hezekiah did humble himself in his pride, and so did the inhabitants of Jerusalem; asa result of which, Yahweh's retribution did not overtake them during Hezekiah's lifetime.	26 Ma umiliossi poi, però che [il suo cuore] s'era levato, così lui come tutti gli abitatori di Ierusalem; e però non venne sopra loro l'ira del Signore nel tempo di Ezechia.
27 Hezekiah enjoyed immense riches and honour. He built himself treasuries for gold, silver, preciousstones, spices, jewels and every kind of desirable object,	27 Ed Ezechia fu ricco e nobile molto, e congregò a sè molti tesori d' oro e d'ariento e pietre preziose, di spezie e d'armi di diverse generazioni, e di vasa di grande pregio.
28 as wel as storehouses for his returns of grain, new wine and olive oil, and stal s for al kinds of cattleand pens for the flocks.	28 E canove di grano e di vino e d' olio, e mangiatoje d' ogni generazione di giumenti, e mandrie di pecore,
29 He also provided himself with donkeys in addition to his immense wealth of flocks and herds, sinceGod had made him immensely wealthy.	29 ed edificoe a sè città; però ch' egli avea armenti, e greggie di pecore innumerabili, però che il Signore gli avea data molta sostanza.
30 It was Hezekiah who stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them straightdown on the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah succeeded in al that he undertook,	30 E questo è Ezechia, il quale otturò la fonte di sopra dell' acqua di Gion, e mandolla di sotto alla parte occidentale della città di David; in tutte le sue opere fece prosperevolmente quello che volse.
31 although when the envoys were sent to him by the rulers of Babylon to enquire about theextraordinary thing which had taken place in the country, God left him alone to test him and discover what lay inhis heart.	31 Ma nell' ambasciata de' prìncipi di Babilonia, li quali furono mandati a lui [per] domandarlo d'uno miracolo il qual era intervenuto sopra la terra, il Signore il lasciò, acciò che fosse tentato, e fossero fatte manifeste tutte le cose le quali erano nel suo cuore.
32 The rest of the history of Hezekiah, and his deeds of faithful love, are recorded in the Vision of theprophet Isaiah son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.	32 Tutte l'altre cose de' fatti di Ezechia, e delle sue misericordie, sono scritte nella visione d'Isaia figliuolo d' Amos profeta, e nel libro de' re di Giuda e d' Israel.
33 Then Hezekiah fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the upper section of the tombs of thesons of David. Al Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem paid him honours at his death. His son Manassehsucceeded him.	33 Dormio Ezechia coi padri suoi, e seppellironlo nelle sepolture de' figliuoli di David; e tutto Giuda celebroe le sue esequie, e tutti gli abitatori di Ierusalem; e regnò per lui il suo figliuolo Manasse.
