1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 Kad je Roboam utvrdio kraljevstvo i ojačao, napustio je Jahvin zakon i on i sav Izrael s njim.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 Ali pete godine Roboamova kraljevanja navali egipatski kralj Šišak na Jeruzalem, koji se bijaše iznevjerio Jahvi.
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 Došao je sa tisuću i dvjesta bojnih kola i sa šezdeset tisuća konjanika, a narodu koji je došao s njim iz Egipta – Libijcima, Sukijcima i Etiopljanima – nije bilo broja.
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 Osvojivši tvrde judejske gradove, dopro je do Jeruzalema.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '	5 Tada dođe prorok Šemaja k Roboamu i judejskim knezovima, koji se bijahu skupili u Jeruzalemu bježeći od Šišaka, i reče im: »Ovako veli Jahve: ‘Vi ste ostavili mene, pa i ja ostavljam vas u ruke Šišaku.’«
6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 Tada se poniziše izraelski knezovi i kralj i rekoše: »Pravedan je Jahve!«
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 Kad ih Jahve vidje gdje se poniziše, dođe njegova riječ Šemaji: »Ponizili su se; neću ih uništiti, nego ću im uskoro dati spasenje te se moja srdžba neće oboriti na Jeruzalem preko Šišaka.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Bit će mu sluge, da vide što znači služiti meni, a što zemaljskim kraljevstvima.«
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 Tako egipatski kralj Šišak navali na Jeruzalem, opljačka blago iz doma Jahvina i riznicu kraljeva dvora; sve je uzeo; uze i zlatne štitove što ih bijaše napravio Salomon.
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 Namjesto njih kralj Roboam napravi mjedene štitove i povjeri ih zapovjednicima straže koja je čuvala vrata kraljevskoga dvora.
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 Kad je god kralj išao u dom Jahvin, stražari su ih uzimali, a poslije ih vraćali u stražaru.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Kad se, dakle, ponizio, odvratio se od njega Jahvin gnjev te ga nije sasvim uništio, jer i u Judeji bijaše dobra.
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 Potom se kralj Roboam utvrdi u Jeruzalemu i stade kraljevati. Roboamu je bila četrdeset i jedna godina kad se zakraljio, a sedamnaest je godina kraljevao u Jeruzalemu, u gradu koji Jahve izabra između svih izraelskih plemena da ondje postavi ime svoje. Majka mu se zvala Naama, a bila je Amonka.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 Činio je zlo, jer nije pregnuo srcem da traži Jahvu.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 Roboamova prva i posljednja djela – i ratovi koji su se neprestano vodili između Roboama i Jeroboama – zapisani su u povijesti proroka Šemaje i u plemenskom popisu vidioca Adona.
16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 Potom Roboam počinu sa svojim ocima i bî sahranjen u Davidovu gradu; na njegovo se mjesto zakraljio sin mu Abija.
