1 The LORD said to Moses,	1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:
2 "Tell Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, to remove the censers from the embers; and scatter the fire some distance away,	2 «Di a Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, que saque los incensarios de entre las cenizas y esparza el fuego a distancia,
3 for these sinners have consecrated the censers at the cost of their lives. Have them hammered into plates to cover the altar, because in being presented before the LORD they have become sacred. In this way they shall serve as a sign to the Israelites."	3 porque esos incensarios de pecado están consagrados a precio de la vida de esos hombres. Haced con ellos láminas de metal, para cubrir el altar, pues fueron presentados a Yahveh y consagrados. Serán una señal para los israelitas.»
4 So Eleazar the priest had the bronze censers of those burned during the offering hammered into a covering for the altar,	4 Tomó el sacerdote Eleazar los incensarios de bronce que habían presentado los que fueron abrasados, y los laminó con destino al altar.
5 in keeping with the orders which the LORD had given him through Moses. This cover was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no layman, no one who was not a descendant of Aaron, should approach the altar to offer incense before the LORD, lest he meet the fate of Korah and his band.	5 Sirven para recordar a los israelitas que no se acerque ningún laico, que no sea de la descendencia de Aarón, a ofrecer el incienso delante de Yahveh; no le ocurra lo que a Coré y a su cuadrilla, según se lo había dicho Yahveh por medio de Moisés.
6 The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, "It is you who have slain the LORD'S people."	6 Al día siguiente, murmuró toda la comunidad de los israelitas contra Moisés y Aarón, diciendo: «Vosotros habéis matado al pueblo de Yahveh.»
7 But while the community was deliberating against them, Moses and Aaron turned toward the meeting tent, and the cloud now covered it and the glory of the LORD appeared.	7 Como se amotinaba la comunidad contra Moisés y Aarón, se volvieron éstos hacia la Tienda del Encuentro. Y vieron que la Nube la había cubierto y se había aparecido la gloria de Yahveh.
8 Then Moses and Aaron came to the front of the meeting tent,	8 Moisés y Aarón se llegaron hasta delante de la Tienda del Encuentro.
9 and the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,	9 Yahveh habló a Moisés y le dijo:
10 "Depart from this community, that I may consume them at once." But they fell prostrate.	10 «Alejaos de esa comunidad, que voy a consumirlos en un instante.» Ellos cayeron rostro en tierra.
11 Then Moses said to Aaron, "Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, and bring it quickly to the community to make atonement for them; for wrath has come forth from the LORD and the blow is falling."	11 Dijo entonces Moisés a Aarón: «Toma el incensario, ponle fuego del que hay sobre el altar, echa incienso y vete rápidamente donde la comunidad a expiar por ellos. Porque ha salido ya la Cólera de la presencia de Yahveh y ha comenzado la Plaga.»
12 Obeying the orders of Moses, Aaron took his censer and ran in among the community, where the blow was already falling on the people. Then, as he offered the incense and made atonement for the people,	12 Aarón lo tomó como le había dicho Moisés y corrió a ponerse en medio de la asamblea; la Plaga había comenzado ya en el pueblo. Echó el incienso e hizo la expiación por el pueblo.
13 standing there between the living and the dead, the scourge was checked.	13 Se plantó entre los muertos y los vivos, y la Plaga se detuvo.
14 Yet fourteen thousand seven hundred died from the scourge, in addition to those who died because of Korah.	14 Los muertos por aquella plaga fueron 14.700, sin contar los que murieron por causa de Coré.
15 When the scourge had been checked, Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance of the meeting tent.	15 Luego Aarón se volvió donde Moisés a la puerta de la Tienda del Encuentro: había cesado ya la Plaga.
16 The LORD now said to Moses,	16 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:
17 "Speak to the Israelites and get one staff from them for each ancestral house, twelve staffs in all, one from each of their tribal princes. Mark each man's name on his staff;	17 «Habla a los israelitas. Que te den una rama por cada familia paterna: que entre todos los principales, en representación de sus familias paternas, de den doce ramas. Y escribe el nombre de cada uno en su rama.
18 and mark Aaron's name on Levi's staff, for the head of Levi's ancestral house shall also have a staff.	18 En la rama de Leví escribe el nombre de Aarón, pues ha de haber también una rama para el jefe de la familia de Leví.
19 Then lay them down in the meeting tent, in front of the commandments, where I meet you.	19 Las depositarás en la Tienda del Encuentro, delante del Testimonio, donde me suelo manifestar a ti.
20 There the staff of the man of my choice shall sprout. Thus will I suppress from my presence the Israelites' grumbling against you."	20 El hombre cuya rama retoñe, será el que yo elijo. Así dejarán de llegar hasta mí las murmuraciones que los israelitas profieren contra vosotros.»
21 So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their princes gave him staffs, twelve in all, one from each tribal prince; and Aaron's staff was with them.	21 Moisés habló a los israelitas, y cada uno de los principales le dio una rama, doce ramas, en representación de todas las familias paternas. Entre sus ramas estaba también la rama de Aarón.
22 Then Moses laid the staffs down before the LORD in the tent of the commandments.	22 Moisés depositó las ramas delante de Yahveh en la Tienda del Testimonio.
23 The next day, when Moses entered the tent, Aaron's staff, representing the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth not only shoots, but blossoms as well, and even bore ripe almonds!	23 Al día siguiente, cuando entró Moisés en la Tienda del Testimonio, vio que había retoñado la rama de Aarón, por la casa de Leví: le habían brotado yemas, había florecido y había producido almendras.
24 Moses thereupon brought out all the staffs from the LORD'S presence to the Israelites. After each prince identified his own staff and took it,	24 Moisés sacó todas las ramas de la presencia de Yahveh, ante los israelitas; las vieron, y tomaron cada uno su rama.
25 the LORD said to Moses, "Put back Aaron's staff in front of the commandments, to be kept there as a warning to the rebellious, so that their grumbling may cease before me; if it does not, they will die."	25 Entonces dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «Vuelve a poner la rama de Aarón delante del Testimonio, para guardarla como señal para los rebeldes: acabará con las murmuraciones, que no llegarán ya hasta mí, y así no morirán.»
26 And Moses did as the LORD had commanded him.	26 Moisés lo hizo así; como le había mandado Yahveh lo hizo.
27 Then the Israelites cried out to Moses, "We are perishing; we are lost, we are all lost!	27 Dijeron los israelitas a Moisés: «¡Estamos perdidos! ¡Hemos perecido! ¡Todos hemos perecido!
28 Every time anyone approaches the Dwelling of the LORD, he dies! Are we to perish to the last man?"	28 Cualquiera que se acerca a la Morada de Yahveh, muere. ¿Es que vamos a perecer hasta no quedar uno?»
