Jeremiah 34

1 This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD while Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and his armies and the earth's kingdoms subject to him, as well as the other peoples, were all attacking Jerusalem and all her cities:	1 Parola indirizzata dal Signore a Geremia, quando Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, còri tutto il Suo esercito, e tutti i regni della terra che eran sotto di lui e tutte le nazioni, combattevano contro Gerusalemme e contro tutte le sue città in questi termini:
2 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Go to Zedekiah, king of Judah, and tell him: Thus says the LORD: I am handing this city over to the king of Babylon; he will destroy it with fire.	2 Così parla il Signore Dio d'Israele: Va a parlare a Sedecia re di Giuda e digli: Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco che io darò questa città in potere del re di Babilonia, ed egli la darà alle fiamme.
3 Neither shall you escape his hand; rather you will be captured and fall into his hands. You shall see the king of Babylon and speak to him face to face. Then you shall be taken to Babylon.	3 Tu non sfuggirai alle sue mani, e senza dubbio sarai preso e dato in suo potere: gli occhi tuoi vedranno il re di Babilonia, parlerai con lui, bocca a bocca, ed entrerai in Babilonia.
4 But if you obey the word of the LORD, Zedekiah, king of Judah, then, says the LORD to you, you shall not die by the sword.	4 Tuttavia ascolta la parola del Signore, o Sedecia, re di Giuda; riguardo a te ecco quanto dice il Signore: Tu non morrai di spada;
5 You shall die in peace, and they will lament you as their lord, and burn spices for your burial as they did for your fathers, the kings who preceded you from the first; it is I who make this promise, says the LORD.	5 ma morrai in pace, e come furon cremati i tuoi padri, i re che furono avanti di te, così cremeranno te, e sopra te faranno i lamenti « Sventura! Signore! » perchè ho parlato io — dice il Signore. —
6 The prophet Jeremiah told all these things to Zedekiah, king of Judah, in Jerusalem,	6 E il profeta Geremia disse a Sedecia re di Giuda tutte queste cose, in Gerusalemme.
7 while the armies of the king of Babylon were attacking Jerusalem and the remaining cities of Judah, Lachish, and Azekah, since these alone were left of the fortified cities of Judah.	7 Allora l'esercito del re di Babilonia combatteva contro Gerusalemme e contro tutte le città di Giuda che restavano, Lachis e Azeca, queste due città fortificate eran le uniche che restavano ancora delle città di Giuda.
8 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after King Zedekiah had made an agreement with all the people in Jerusalem to issue an edict of emancipation.	8 Parola indirizzata dal Signore a Geremia, dopo che il re Sedecia fece il patto con tutto il popolo in Gerusalemme e fece pubblicare
9 Everyone was to free his Hebrew slaves, male and female, so that no one should hold a man of Judah, his brother, in slavery.	9 che ognuno rimandasse libero il suo servo ebreo e la sua serva ebrea, e non li trattassero più come servi, ma come Giudei loro fratelli.
10 All the princes and the others who entered the agreement consented to set free their male and female servants, so that they should be slaves no longer. But though they agreed and freed them,	10 Allora tutti i principi e tutto il popolo che avevan fatto il patto di rimetterò ciascuno in libertà il suo servo e la sua serva e di non tenerli più come servi, obbedirono e diedero la libertà;
11 afterward they took back their male and female slaves whom they had set free and again forced them into service.	11 ma poi, cambiando parere, ripresero per forza i loro servi e le loro serve a cui avevan data la libertà e li assoggettaron di nuovo come servi e serve.
12 Then this word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:	12 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata dal Signore a Geremia in questi termini:
13 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: The day I brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the place where they were slaves, I made this covenant with them:	13 Così parla il Signore, il Dio d'Israele: « Io feci un patto coi vostri padri nel giorno in cui li trassi dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù, e dissi:
14 Every seventh year each of you shall set free his Hebrew brother who has sold himself to you; six years he shall serve you, but then you shall let him go free. Your fathers, however, did not heed me or obey me.	14 Al termine di sette anni ciascuno metterà in libertà il suo fratello ebreo a lui venduto: egli ti servirà per sei anni, poi lo metterai in libertà. E i vostri padri non mi diedero ascolto, non piegarono il loro orecchio.
15 Today you indeed repented and did what is right in my eyes by proclaiming the emancipation of your brethren and making an agreement before me in the house that is named after me.	15 Ma voi oggi vi siete convertiti ed avete fatto ciò che è retto davanti a me, pubblicando ciascuno di rimettere in libertà il suo prossimo, avete fatto questo patto davanti a me, nella casa sopra la quale è invocato il mio nome.
16 But then you changed your mind and profaned my name by taking back your male and female slaves to whom you had given their freedom; you forced them once more into slavery.	16 Poi invece avete mutato parere, avete contaminato il mio nome, ciascuno ha ripreso il suo servo e la sua serva che aveva lasciati in libertà e padroni di sè, e l'avete assoggettati ad essere servi e serve.
17 Therefore, thus says the LORD: You did not obey me by proclaiming your neighbors and kinsmen free. I now proclaim you free, says the LORD, for the sword, famine, and pestilence. I will make you an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.	17 Per questo, così parla il Signore: Voi non mi siete stati a sentire per promulgare ciascuno la libertà del suo fratello, del suo amico, ed ecco io vi promulgo la libertà per la spada, per la peste, per la fame, e vi farò straziare per tutti i regni della terra.
18 The men who violated my covenant and did not observe the terms of the agreement which they made before me, I will make like the calf which they cut in two, between whose two parts they passed.	18 E quelli che non sono stati al mio patto, e non han messe in pratica le parole del patto a cui assentirono davanti a me, io li tratterò come quel vitello che essi divisero in due parti e passarono in mezzo alle parti divise.
19 The princes of Judah and of Jerusalem, the courtiers, the priests, and the common people, who passed between the parts of the calf,	19 (Cosi tratterò) i principi di Giuda, i principi di Gerusalemme, gli eunuchi, i sacerdoti, e tutto il popolo del paese che son passati in mezzo alle parti divise del vitello.
20 I will hand over, all of them, to their enemies, to those who seek their lives: their corpses shall be food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.	20 E li darò in mano dei loro nemici, in mano di quelli che cercano di toglier loro la vita, e i loro cadaveri saran pasto degli uccelli del cielo e delle bestie della terra.
21 Zedekiah, too, king of Judah, and his princes, I will hand over to their enemies, to those who seek their lives, to the soldiers of the king of Babylon who have at present withdrawn from you.	21 E Sedecia re di Giuda e i suoi principi io li darò in potere dei loro nemici, in potere di coloro che li voglion morti, in potere degli eserciti del re di Babilonia che si son ritirati da voi.
22 I will give the command, says the LORD, and bring them back to this city. They shall attack and capture it, and destroy it with fire; the cities of Judah I will turn into a desert where no man dwells.	22 Ecco io dò i miei ordini — dice il Signore — e li farò ritornare a questa città, l'attaccheranno, la prenderanno, la daranno alle fiamme, e le città di Giuda le ridurrò a un deserto tale che non vi sia chi le abiti.
