Leviticus 26

1 "Do not make false gods for yourselves. You shall not erect an idol or a sacred pillar for yourselves, nor shall you set up a stone figure for worship in your land; for I, the LORD, am your God.	1 No se fabriquen ídolos ni se erijan imágenes o piedras conmemorativas; no pongan en su tierra piedras grabadas para postrarse delante de ellas, porque yo soy el Señor, su Dios.
2 Keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary. I am the LORD.	2 Observen mis sábados y respeten mi Santuario. Yo soy el Señor.
3 "If you live in accordance with my precepts and are careful to observe my commandments,	3 Si ustedes viven conforme a mis preceptos y observan fielmente mis mandamientos,
4 I will give you rain in due season, so that the land will bear its crops, and the trees their fruit;	4 yo enviaré las lluvias a su debido tiempo, y así la tierra dará sus productos y las plantas del campo, sus frutos.
5 your threshing will last till vintage time, and your vintage till the time for sowing, and you will have food to eat in abundance, so that you may dwell securely in your land.	5 Entonces el tiempo de la trilla se prolongará hasta la vendimia y la vendimia, hasta la siembra. Comerán pan hasta saciarse y habitarán seguros en su tierra.
6 I will establish peace in the land, that you may lie down to rest without anxiety. I will rid the country of ravenous beasts, and keep the sword of war from sweeping across your land.	6 Yo aseguraré la paz en el país y ustedes descansarán sin que nadie los perturbe: alejaré del país los animales dañinos y ninguna espada asolará la tierra
7 You will rout your enemies and lay them low with your sword.	7 Perseguirán a sus enemigos, y ellos caerán bajo la espada delante de ustedes.
8 Five of you will put a hundred of your foes to flight, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand of them, till they are cut down by your sword.	8 Cinco de ustedes perseguirán a cien, y cien a diez mil; y sus enemigos caerán bajo la espada delante de ustedes.
9 I will look with favor upon you, and make you fruitful and numerous, as I carry out my covenant with you.	9 Yo los miraré con bondad, los haré fecundos y numerosos, y mantendré mi alianza con ustedes.
10 So much of the old crops will you have stored up for food that you will have to discard them to make room for the new.	10 Comerán grano viejo largamente almacenado, y tendrán que tirar el grano viejo para dar lugar al nuevo.
11 I will set my Dwelling among you, and will not disdain you.	11 Yo pondré mi Morada en medio de ustedes y no les tendré aversión;
12 Ever present in your midst, I will be your God, and you will be my people;	12 siempre estaré presente entre ustedes: ustedes serán mi Pueblo y yo seré su Dios.
13 for it is I, the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of the Egyptians and freed you from their slavery, breaking the yoke they had laid upon you and letting you walk erect.	13 Yo soy el Señor, su Dios, el que los hice salir de Egipto para que no fueran más sus esclavos. Yo rompí las barras de su yugo y los hice caminar con la cabeza erguida.
14 "But if you do not heed me and do not keep all these commandments,	14 Pero si no me obedecen y no cumplen todos estos mandamientos;
15 if you reject my precepts and spurn my decrees, refusing to obey all my commandments and breaking my covenant,	15 si desprecian mis preceptos y muestran aversión por mis leyes; si dejan de practicar mis mandamientos y quebrantan mi alianza,
16 then I, in turn, will give you your deserts. I will punish you with terrible woes--with wasting and fever to dim the eyes and sap the life. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will consume the crop.	16 yo, a mi vez, los trataré de la misma manera: haré que el terror los domine –la debilidad y la fiebre que consumen los ojos y desgastan la vida–. En vano plantarán sus semillas, porque las comerán sus enemigos.
17 I will turn against you, till you are beaten down before your enemies and lorded over by your foes. You will take to flight though no one pursues you.	17 Yo volveré mi rostro contra ustedes y serán derrotados por sus enemigos; quedarán sometidos a sus adversarios y huirán aunque nadie los persiga.
18 "If even after this you do not obey me, I will increase the chastisement for your sins sevenfold,	18 Y si pesar de esto no me obedecen, seguiré corrigiéndolos siete veces más a causa de sus pecados.
19 to break your haughty confidence. I will make the sky above you as hard as iron, and your soil as hard as bronze,	19 Humillaré esa enorme soberbia, haciendo que el cielo sea para ustedes como hierro y la tierra como bronce.
20 so that your strength will be spent in vain; your land will bear no crops, and its trees no fruit.	20 Entonces agotarán sus fuerzas en vano, porque la tierra no dará sus productos ni las plantas del campo, sus frutos.
21 "If then you become defiant in your unwillingness to obey me, I will multiply my blows another sevenfold, as your sins deserve.	21 Y si me siguen contrariando y rehúsan obedecerme, volveré a castigarlos siete veces más a causa de sus pecados.
22 I will unleash the wild beasts against you, to rob you of your children and wipe out your livestock, till your population dwindles away and your roads become deserted.	22 Enviaré contra ustedes las fieras del campo, para que les arrebaten a sus hijos y exterminen su ganado. Ellas las diezmarán, y los caminos de ustedes quedarán desiertos.
23 "If, with all this, you still refuse to be chastened by me and continue to defy me,	23 Y si a pesar de eso no se corrigen y me siguen contrariando,
24 I, too, will defy you and will smite you for your sins seven times harder than before.	24 yo también me pondré contra ustedes y los castigaré siete veces más a causa de sus pecados.
25 I will make the sword, the avenger of my covenant, sweep over you. Though you then huddle together in your walled cities, I will send in pestilence among you, till you are forced to surrender to the enemy.	25 Atraeré contra ustedes una espada que vengará la transgresión de la alianza. Entonces buscarán refugio en sus ciudades, pero les enviaré la peste y caerán en poder del enemigo.
26 And as I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will need but one oven for baking all the bread they dole out to you in rations--not enough food to still your hunger.	26 Cuando los prive del sustento diario, diez mujeres cocerán su pan en su horno, y lo distribuirán tan bien medido, que ustedes comerán pero no se saciarán.
27 "If, despite all this, you still persist in disobeying and defying me,	27 Y si a pesar de eso no me obedecen y continúan contrariándome,
28 I, also, will meet you with fiery defiance and will chastise you with sevenfold fiercer punishment for your sins,	28 yo los trataré con indignación y los reprenderé severamente siete veces más, a causa de sus pecados.
29 till you begin to eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.	29 Comerán la carne de sus hijos y de sus hijas,
30 I will demolish your high places, overthrow your incense stands, and cast your corpses on those of your idols. In my abhorrence of you,	30 y yo destruiré sus lugares altos, derribaré los altares donde ofrecen incienso, y arrojaré los cadáveres de ustedes sobre sus ídolos inertes. Les tendré aversión,
31 I will lay waste your cities and devastate your sanctuaries, refusing to accept your sweet-smelling offerings.	31 convertiré sus ciudades en ruinas, asolaré sus santuarios, y ya no aspiraré el aroma de sus sacrificios.
32 So devastated will I leave the land that your very enemies who come to live there will stand aghast at the sight of it.	32 Devastaré la tierra, hasta tal punto que sus mismos enemigos quedarán espantados cuando vengan a ocuparla.
33 You yourselves I will scatter among the nations at the point of my drawn sword, leaving your countryside desolate and your cities deserted.	33 Los dispersaré entre las naciones y desenvainaré la espada detrás de ustedes. Así el país se convertirá en un desierto y sus ciudades, en ruinas.
34 Then shall the land retrieve its lost sabbaths during all the time it lies waste, while you are in the land of your enemies; then shall the land have rest and make up for its sabbaths	34 Y durante todo el tiempo en que estará desolada, mientras ustedes vivan en el país de sus enemigos, la tierra pagará los años sabáticos que adeuda.
35 during all the time that it lies desolate, enjoying the rest that you would not let it have on the sabbaths when you lived there.	35 En todo el tiempo de la desolación, ella observará por fin el descanso que no observó en sus años sabáticos, cuando ustedes la habitaban.
36 "Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies I will make so fainthearted that, if leaves rustle behind them, they will flee headlong, as if from the sword, though no one pursues them;	36 A los sobrevivientes los llenaré de pánico en la tierra de sus enemigos: el ruido que produce una hoja al caer, los ahuyentará: huirán como quien huye de la espada, y caerán aunque nadie los persiga.
37 stumbling over one another as if to escape a weapon, while no one is after them--so helpless will you be to take a stand against your foes!	37 Sin ser perseguidos, se atropellarán unos a otros como si tuvieran delante una espada. Ustedes no podrán sostenerse en pie delante de sus adversarios,
38 You will be lost among the Gentiles, swallowed up in your enemies' country.	38 sino que perecerán entre las naciones y se los tragará la tierra de sus enemigos.
39 Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies will waste away for their own and their fathers' guilt.	39 Y aquellos que sobrevivan aún, se consumirán en la tierra de sus enemigos, a causa de sus propias culpas, y también a causa de las culpas de sus padres.
40 "Thus they will have to confess that they and their fathers were guilty of having rebelled against me and of having defied me,	40 Entonces confesarán las culpas, que ellos y sus padres cometieron por haberme sido infieles, y sobre todo, por haberse puesto contra mí.
41 so that I, too, had to defy them and bring them into their enemies' land. Then, when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their guilt,	41 Pero yo también me pondré contra ellos y los llevaré al país de sus enemigos. Así se humillará su corazón incircunciso y pagarán sus culpas.
42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob, my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham; and of the land, too, I will be mindful.	42 Yo me acordaré de mi alianza con Jacob, con Isaac y con Abraham, y me acordaré de la tierra.
43 But the land must first be rid of them, that in its desolation it may make up its lost sabbaths, and that they, too, may make good the debt of their guilt for having spurned my precepts and abhorred my statutes.	43 Pero antes, la tierra quedará abandonada y pagará los años sabáticos que adeuda, mientras esté desolada por la ausencia de ellos; y también pagarán sus culpas, ya que despreciaron mis leyes y sintieron aversión por mis preceptos.
44 Yet even so, even while they are in their enemies' land, I will not reject or spurn them, lest, by wiping them out, I make void my covenant with them; for I, the LORD, am their God.	44 Pero aún entonces, cuando estén en la tierra de sus enemigos, yo no los rechazaré ni sentiré aversión por ellos hasta el punto de aniquilarlos y de anular mi alianza con ellos: porque yo soy el Señor, su Dios.
45 I will remember them because of the covenant I made with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt under the very eyes of the Gentiles, that I, the LORD, might be their God."	45 Me acordaré en favor de ellos de la alianza que establecí con sus antepasados, con los que hice salir de Egipto a la vista de las naciones para ser su Dios. Yo, el Señor.
46 These are the precepts, decrees and laws which the LORD had Moses promulgate on Mount Sinai in the pact between himself and the Israelites.	46 Estos son los preceptos, las leyes y las instrucciones que el Señor estableció entre él y los israelitas sobre la montaña del Sinaí, por intermedio de Moisés.
