1 The Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall take away from Jerusalem and from Judah support and prop (all supplies of bread and water):	1 Sì, ecco il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, rimuove da Gerusalemme e da Giuda sostegno e appoggio, ogni sostegno di pane e ogni appoggio d'acqua:
2 Hero and warrior, judge and prophet, fortune-teller and elder,	2 l'eroe e il guerriero, il giudice ed il profeta, l'indovino e l'anziano,
3 The captain of fifty and the nobleman, counselor, skilled magician, and expert charmer.	3 il comandante di cinquanta, e i notabili e il consigliere, l'abile mago e l'incantatore.
4 I will make striplings their princes; the fickle shall govern them,	4 "Darò loro dei giovani come prìncipi e dei capricciosi li domineranno".
5 And the people shall oppress one another, yes, every man his neighbor. The child shall be bold toward the elder, and the base toward the honorable.	5 Nel popolo l'uno opprimerà l'altro, ognuno il suo prossimo, il giovane s'inorgoglirà contro l'anziano e l'abietto contro il nobile.
6 When a man seizes his brother in his father's house, saying, "You have clothes! Be our ruler, and take in hand this ruin!"--	6 Uno afferrerà il fratello suo nella casa paterna: "Tu hai un mantello, sii nostro capo e prendi in mano questa rovina".
7 Then shall he answer in that day: "I will not undertake to cure this, when in my own house there is no bread or clothing! You shall not make me ruler of the people."	7 In quel giorno l'altro risponderà: "Io non sono un medico: in casa mia non c'è pane né mantello, non fatemi capo del popolo".
8 Jerusalem is crumbling, Judah is falling; for their speech and their deeds are before the LORD, a provocation in the sight of his majesty.	8 Gerusalemme è inciampata e Giuda è caduta, poiché le loro parole e le loro azioni sono contro il Signore, irritando lo sguardo della sua maestà.
9 Their very look bears witness against them; their sin like Sodom they vaunt, They hide it not. Woe to them! they deal out evil to themselves.	9 Il loro sguardo testimonia contro di essi; proclamano i loro peccati come Sodoma, non lo nascondono; guai a loro, poiché preparano la loro rovina.
10 Happy the just, for it will be well with them, the fruit of their works they will eat.	10 Dite: "Il giusto, sì, è felice", poiché godrà del frutto delle sue opere.
11 Woe to the wicked man! All goes ill, with the work of his hands he will be repaid.	11 Guai all'empio! Lo coglierà la sventura, poiché gli capiterà secondo l'opera delle sue mani.
12 My people--a babe in arms will be their tyrant, and women will rule them! O my people, your leaders mislead, they destroy the paths you should follow.	12 O mio popolo! un fanciullo l'opprime e donne dominano sopra di lui! Popolo mio, i tuoi condottieri ti traviano, rovinano la strada che tu percorri.
13 The LORD rises to accuse, standing to try his people.	13 Il Signore si erge ad accusare, si presenta a giudicare il suo popolo.
14 The Lord enters into judgment with his people's elders and princes: It is you who have devoured the vineyard; the loot wrested from the poor is in your houses.	14 Il Signore entra in giudizio con gli anziani e con i prìncipi: "Siete voi che avete guastato la vigna, le spoglie del povero si trovano nelle vostre case.
15 What do you mean by crushing my people, and grinding down the poor when they look to you? says the Lord, the GOD of hosts.	15 Perché calpestate il mio popolo e pestate la faccia dei poveri?". Oracolo del Signore, Dio degli eserciti.
16 The LORD said: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with necks outstretched Ogling and mincing as they go, their anklets tinkling with every step,	16 Il Signore dice: "Poiché sono orgogliose le figlie di Sion, camminano con il collo teso e con occhi provocatori, camminano a piccoli passi e ai loro piedi fanno tintinnare gli anelli,

19 the pendants, bracelets, and veils;	19 orecchini, braccialetti e veli,
20 the headdresses, bangles, cinctures, perfume boxes, and amulets;	20 turbanti, catenelle ai piedi, cinture, vasetti di profumo e amuleti,
21 the signet rings, and the nose rings;	21 anelli e monili da naso,
22 the court dresses, wraps, cloaks, and purses;	22 stoffe preziose, mantellette, scialli e borsette,
23 the mirrors, linen tunics, turbans, and shawls.	23 specchi, tuniche, tiare e vestaglie.
24 Instead of perfume there will be stench, instead of the girdle, a rope, And for the coiffure, baldness; for the rich gown, a sackcloth skirt.
