Sirach 7

1 Do no evil, and evil will not overtake you;	1 Non fare male, e il male non ti piglierae.
2 avoid wickedness, and it will turn aside from you.	2 Pàrtiti dal malvagio, e li mali si partiranno da te.
3 Sow not in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold.	3 Non seminare mali nelli solchi d' ingiustizia, e non li mieterai sette per uno.
4 Seek not from the LORD authority, nor from the king a place of honor.	4 Non domandare dall' uomo il ducato, nè dal re la sedia dello onore.
5 Parade not your justice before the Lord, and before the king flaunt not your wisdom.	5 Non ti giustificherai dinanzi da Dio, però ch' egli è conoscitore del cuore; e non volerti mostrare savio appresso il re.
6 Seek not to become a judge if you have not strength to root out crime, Or you will show favor to the ruler and mar your integrity.	6 Non volere diventare giudice, se tu non puoi per le tue bontadi rompere le iniquitadi acciò che tu non impaurisca dalla faccia del potente, e metta scandalo nella tua levità.
7 Be guilty of no evil before the city's populace, nor disgrace yourself before the assembly.	7 E non peccare nella moltitudine della (tua) cittade, nè non ti mescolare infra il popolo.
8 Do not plot to repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished.	8 E non legare insieme doppi peccati; però che tu non saresti sanza peccato.
9 Say not: "He will appreciate my many gifts; the Most High will accept my offerings."	9 E non essere pusillanimo nell' anima tua.
10 Be not impatient in prayers, and neglect not the giving of alms.	10 Non dispregiare d' adorare e di fare limosina.
11 Laugh not at an embittered man; be mindful of him who exalts and humbles.	11 Non dire: nella moltitudine Iddio guarderà il numero de' miei meriti, e la misericordia sua riceverae me offendente a Dio altissimo.
12 Plot no mischief against your brother, nor against your friend and companion.	12 Non dileggiare l' uomo nell' amaritudine dell' anima sua; Domenedio riguardatore è colui il quale umilia ed esalta.
13 Delight not in telling lie after lie, for it never results in good.	13 Non amare la bugia contro al fratello tuo; nè contro allo amico farai lo somigliante.
14 Thrust not yourself into the deliberations of princes, and repeat not the words of your prayer.	14 Non dire ogni dì bugia; il dire continuo bugia non è buono.
15 Hate not laborious tasks, nor farming, which was ordained by the Most High.	15 Non essere pieno di parole nella moltitudine de' preti, e non reiterare la parola nel tuo dire.
16 Do not esteem yourself better than your fellows; remember, his wrath will not delay.	16 Non odiare le faticose opere, e l'agricoltura [che] fu da Dio trovata.
17 More and more, humble your pride; what awaits man is worms.	17 Non ti gittare nella moltitudine de' non ammaestrati.
18 Barter not a friend for money, nor a dear brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Ricordati dell' ira (di Dio), però che non tarderà.
19 Dismiss not a sensible wife; a gracious wife is more precious than corals.	19 Umilia molto l'animo tuo; però che la vendetta della carne ne viene incontro alli rei in fuoco e in vermi.
20 Mistreat not a servant who faithfully serves, nor a laborer who devotes himself to his task.	20 Non fallire contro allo amico che ti recherae in guardia pecunia; nè per oro ti dispartirai dal tuo fratello carissimo.
21 Let a wise servant be dear to you as your own self; refuse him not his freedom.	21 Non ti partire dalla savia femina e buona, la quale t'è venuta in parte nel timore di Dio; la grazia della onestade di colei è sopra tutto oro.
22 If you have livestock, look after them; if they are dependable, keep them.	22 Non offenderai il servo operante nella veritade, nè il mercenario dante l'anima sua.
23 If you have sons, chastise them; bend their necks from childhood.	23 Il savio servo sia amato da te, quasi come l'anima tua; non li fraudare la libertade, e non lo lasciare povero.
24 If you have daughters, keep them chaste, and be not indulgent to them.	24 Tu hai bestie? attendi a quelle; e s'elle ti sono utili, persèverino appo teszon out ah al fons)
25 Giving your daughter in marriage ends a great task; but give her to a worthy man.	25 Se tu hai figliuoli, ammaestragli (che sieno ubbidienti), e fiaccali dalla loro puerizia.
26 If you have a wife, let her not seem odious to you; but where there is ill-feeling, trust her not.	26 Se tu hai figliuole, guarda il corpo loro, e non mostrare loro la faccia tua allegra.
27 With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's birthpangs forget not.	27 Dà la figliuola tua a marito, e averai fatta grande opera; e dàlla ad uomo savio.
28 Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?	28 Se tu averai moglie secondo l'anima tua, non la cacciare; e non ti commettere tutto a quella che è da avere in odio.
29 With all your soul, fear God, revere his priests.	29 Onora il padre tuo, e non dimenticare il pianto della madre tua.
30 With all your strength, love your Creator, forsake not his ministers.	30 Ricordati che se non fosse per coloro, tu non saresti nato; e fa che tu rimeriti coloro, sì come eglino te.
31 Honor God and respect the priest; give him his portion as you have been commanded: First fruits and contributions, due sacrifices and holy offerings.	31 In tutta l'anima tua temi Iddio, e santifica li sacerdoti suoi.
32 To the poor man also extend your hand, that your blessing may be complete;	32 In ogni tua forza ama colui che fece te, e non abbandonare li ministri suoi.
33 Be generous to all the living, and withhold not your kindness from the dead.	33 Onora Iddio con tutta l'anima tua, e onora li sacerdoti (suoi); e ispurga te colla tua fatica.
34 Avoid not those who weep, but mourn with those who mourn;	34 Dà a loro la parte delle primizie, sì come è comandamento a te; e pùrgati della negligenza tua con poche cose.
35 Neglect not to visit the sick-- for these things you will be loved.	35 Offeri a Dio il frutto della tua fatica, e il sacrificio della santificazione, e' principii de' santi.
36 In whatever you do, remember your last days, and you will never sin.	36 E porgi la mano tua al povero, acciò che si compia la preghiera tua e la benedizione tua.
	37 La grazia del dato in conspetto d' ogni vivente, e non dinegare la grazia al morto.
	38 Non fallire a coloro che piangono nella consolazione, e va con coloro che amano.
	39 Non t'incresca di visitare lo infermo; con queste opere ti confermerai in dilezione.
	40 In tutte le tue opere ti ricorderai della morte tua, e in eterno non peccherai.
