1 Then shall the just one with great assurance confront his oppressors who set at nought his labors.	1 Allora staranno li giusti in grande fermezza contro a coloro che sì angosciarono e che tolsono fatiche a coloro.
2 Seeing this, they shall be shaken with dreadful fear, and amazed at the unlooked-for salvation.	2 Coloro che vede ranno si turberanno per paura orribile, e maraviglierannosi nella subitezza della non sperata salute.
3 They shall say among themselves, rueful and groaning through anguish of spirit: "This is he whom once we held as a laughingstock and as a type for mockery,	3 Piangendo per l'angoscia del spirito, diranno tra loro, coloro che faranno penitenza: costoro sono quelli, li quali alcuna volta noi schernimmo, e avemmoli con una somiglianza di rimproperio.
4 fools that we were! His life we accounted madness, and his death dishonored.	4 Noi insensati estimavamo la loro vita una pazzia, e che il loro fine fosse sanza onore.
5 See how he is accounted among the sons of God; how his lot is with the saints!	5 Or come sono elli computati tra li figliuoli di Dio, e la parte loro (come è numerata) tra li santi?
6 We, then, have strayed from the way of truth, and the light of justice did not shine for us, and the sun did not rise for us.	6 Adunque errammo noi dalla via della veritade, e della giustizia il lume non lucè a noi; il sole della intelligenza non ci apparve.
7 We had our fill of the ways of mischief and of ruin; we journeyed through impassable deserts, but the way of the LORD we knew not.	7 Noi siamo rimasti nella via della iniquitade e della perdizione, e andassimo per malagevole via; ma noi non conoscemmo la via del Signore.
8 What did our pride avail us? What have wealth and its boastfulness afforded us?	8 Che ci giovoe la superbia? che prode ci fece la vanagloria delle ricchezze?
9 All of them passed like a shadow and like a fleeting rumor;	9 Tutte quelle cose trapassarono sì come ombra, e sì come uno messo corriere;
10 Like a ship traversing the heaving water, of which, when it has passed, no trace can be found, no path of its keel in the waves.	10 e sì come nave che trapassa la tempesta, lo vestigio della quale non si puote trovare quando ella è trapassata, nè la via del suo fondo si trova nell' onde;
11 Or like a bird flying through the air; no evidence of its course is to be found- But the fluid air, lashed by the beat of pinions, and cleft by the rushing force Of speeding wings, is traversed: and afterward no mark of passage can be found in it.	11 o come l'uccello che vola per l'aere; nullo indizio si trova del suo viaggio, na solo il strepito dell' ale verberanti il lieve vento; e scinde per forza del suo cammin l'aere, e transvoloe commovendo l'ale; e dopo questo niuno segno si trova del suo cammino;
12 Or as, when an arrow has been shot at a mark, the parted air straightway flows together again so that none discerns the way it went through-	12 o come la saetta mandata nel luogo assegnato; l'aere diviso da lei incontinente si è racchiuso, acciò che non si sappia ond' ella è passata.
13 Even so we, once born, abruptly came to nought and held no sign of virtue to display, but were consumed in our wickedness."	13 E così noi nati immantinenti cessiamo d'essere, e nullo segno di virtude possiamo mostrare: noi siamo consunti nella malvagitade nostra.
14 Yes, the hope of the wicked is like thistledown borne on the wind, and like fine, tempest-driven foam; Like smoke scattered by the wind, and like the passing memory of the nomad camping for a single day.	14 E cotali cose dissono in inferno coloro che peccarono.
15 But the just live forever, and in the LORD is their recompense, and the thought of them is with the Most High.	15 Però che cotale speranza del crudele è come la polvere che è levata dal vento; e come sottile schiuma che è sparta dall' onda, e come fumo che è spirato dal vento, e sì come la memoria dell' ospite trapassante uno die.
16 Therefore shall they receive the splendid crown, the beauteous diadem, from the hand of the LORD- For he shall shelter them with his right hand, and protect them with his arm.	16 Ma li giusti viveranno in perpetuo, e il merito loro si è appo Dio, e il loro pensiero si è appo l'Altissimo.
17 He shall take his zeal for armor and he shall arm creation to requite the enemy;	17 E però prendono regno di bellezza e corona bella di mano del Signore; però che la destra sua copre loro, e col suo braccio santo difende loro.
18 He shall don justice for a breastplate and shall wear sure judgment for a helmet;	18 E l'amore di Dio prenderae l'armadura, e armerae la creatura a vendetta de' nimici.
19 He shall take invincible rectitude as a shield	19 Vestirassi per la corazza, la giustizia; e in luogo di elmo prenderà il diritto giudicio.
20 and whet his sudden anger for a sword, And the universe shall war with him against the foolhardy.	20 Prenderae la equitade, la quale è scudo che non puote essere vinto.
21 Well-aimed shafts of lightnings shall go forth and from the clouds as from a well-drawn bow shall leap to the mark;	21 Aguzzerae crudele ira per lancia; il mondo con lui insieme combatterae contra li insensati.
22 and as from his sling, wrathful hailstones shall be hurled. The water of the sea shall be enraged against them and the streams shall abruptly overflow;	22 Anderanno diritto le lance de' folgori, e sì come da bene piegato arco de' nuvoli fieno disfatti; a certo luogo sì deveneranno.
23 A mighty wind shall confront them and a tempest winnow them out; Thus lawlessness shall lay the whole earth waste and evildoing overturn the thrones of potentates.	23 E dell' ira petrosa come sassi di gragnuola fieno gettati; e l'acqua del mare infiammerà contro a loro, e li fiumi duramente insieme correranno.
