Exodus 23

1 "You shall not repeat a false report. Do not join the wicked in putting your hand, as an unjust witness, upon anyone.	1 Non spargerai false dicerie; non presterai mano al colpevole per far da testimone in favore di un’ingiustizia.
2 Neither shall you allege the example of the many as an excuse for doing wrong, nor shall you, when testifying in a lawsuit, side with the many in perverting justice.	2 Non seguirai la maggioranza per agire male e non deporrai in processo così da stare con la maggioranza, per ledere il diritto.
3 You shall not favor a poor man in his lawsuit.	3 Non favorirai nemmeno il debole nel suo processo.
4 "When you come upon your enemy's ox or ass going astray, see to it that it is returned to him.	4 Quando incontrerai il bue del tuo nemico o il suo asino dispersi, glieli dovrai ricondurre.
5 When you notice the ass of one who hates you lying prostrate under its burden, by no means desert him; help him, rather, to raise it up.	5 Quando vedrai l’asino del tuo nemico accasciarsi sotto il carico, non abbandonarlo a se stesso: mettiti con lui a scioglierlo dal carico.
6 "You shall not deny one of your needy fellow men his rights in his lawsuit.	6 Non ledere il diritto del tuo povero nel suo processo.
7 You shall keep away from anything dishonest. The innocent and the just you shall not put to death, nor shall you acquit the guilty.	7 Ti terrai lontano da parola menzognera. Non far morire l’innocente e il giusto, perché io non assolvo il colpevole.
8 Never take a bribe, for a bribe blinds even the most clear-sighted and twists the words even of the just.	8 Non accetterai doni, perché il dono acceca chi ha gli occhi aperti e perverte anche le parole dei giusti.
9 You shall not oppress an alien; you well know how it feels to be an alien, since you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.	9 Non opprimerai il forestiero: anche voi conoscete la vita del forestiero, perché siete stati forestieri in terra d’Egitto.
10 "For six years you may sow your land and gather in its produce.	10 Per sei anni seminerai la tua terra e ne raccoglierai il prodotto,
11 But the seventh year you shall let the land lie untilled and unharvested, that the poor among you may eat of it and the beasts of the field may eat what the poor leave. So also shall you do in regard to your vineyard and your olive grove.	11 ma nel settimo anno non la sfrutterai e la lascerai incolta: ne mangeranno gli indigenti del tuo popolo e ciò che lasceranno sarà consumato dalle bestie selvatiche. Così farai per la tua vigna e per il tuo oliveto.
12 "For six days you may do your work, but on the seventh day you must rest, that your ox and your ass may also have rest, and that the son of your maidservant and the alien may be refreshed.	12 Per sei giorni farai i tuoi lavori, ma nel settimo giorno farai riposo, perché possano godere quiete il tuo bue e il tuo asino e possano respirare i figli della tua schiava e il forestiero.
13 Give heed to all that I have told you. "Never mention the name of any other god; it shall not be heard from your lips.	13 Farete attenzione a quanto vi ho detto: non pronunciate il nome di altri dèi; non si senta sulla tua bocca!
14 "Three times a year you shall celebrate a pilgrim feast to me.	14 Tre volte all’anno farai festa in mio onore.
15 You shall keep the feast of Unleavened Bread. As I have commanded you, you must eat unleavened bread for seven days at the prescribed time in the month of Abib, for it was then that you came out of Egypt. No one shall appear before me empty-handed.	15 Osserverai la festa degli Azzimi: per sette giorni mangerai azzimi, come ti ho ordinato, nella ricorrenza del mese di Abìb, perché in esso sei uscito dall’Egitto. Non si dovrà comparire davanti a me a mani vuote.
16 You shall also keep the feast of the grain harvest with the first of the crop that you have sown in the field; and finally, the feast at the fruit harvest at the end of the year, when you gather in the produce from the fields.	16 Osserverai la festa della mietitura, cioè dei primi frutti dei tuoi lavori di semina nei campi, e poi, al termine dell’anno, la festa del raccolto, quando raccoglierai il frutto dei tuoi lavori nei campi.
17 Thrice a year shall all your men appear before the Lord GOD.	17 Tre volte all’anno ogni tuo maschio comparirà alla presenza del Signore Dio.
18 "You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; nor shall the fat of my feast be kept overnight till the next day.	18 Non offrirai con pane lievitato il sangue del sacrificio in mio onore, e il grasso della vittima per la mia festa non dovrà restare fino al mattino.
19 The choicest first fruits of your soil you shall bring to the house of the LORD, your God. "You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk.	19 Il meglio delle primizie del tuo suolo lo porterai alla casa del Signore, tuo Dio. Non farai cuocere un capretto nel latte di sua madre.
20 "See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.	20 Ecco, io mando un angelo davanti a te per custodirti sul cammino e per farti entrare nel luogo che ho preparato.
21 Be attentive to him and heed his voice. Do not rebel against him, for he will not forgive your sin. My authority resides in him.	21 Abbi rispetto della sua presenza, da’ ascolto alla sua voce e non ribellarti a lui; egli infatti non perdonerebbe la vostra trasgressione, perché il mio nome è in lui.
22 If you heed his voice and carry out all I tell you, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes.	22 Se tu dai ascolto alla sua voce e fai quanto ti dirò, io sarò il nemico dei tuoi nemici e l’avversario dei tuoi avversari.
23 "My angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites; and I will wipe them out.	23 Quando il mio angelo camminerà alla tua testa e ti farà entrare presso l’Amorreo, l’Ittita, il Perizzita, il Cananeo, l’Eveo e il Gebuseo e io li distruggerò,
24 Therefore, you shall not bow down in worship before their gods, nor shall you make anything like them; rather, you must demolish them and smash their sacred pillars.	24 tu non ti prostrerai davanti ai loro dèi e non li servirai; tu non ti comporterai secondo le loro opere, ma dovrai demolire e frantumare le loro stele.
25 The LORD, your God, you shall worship; then I will bless your food and drink, and I will remove all sickness from your midst;	25 Voi servirete il Signore, vostro Dio. Egli benedirà il tuo pane e la tua acqua. Terrò lontana da te la malattia.
26 no woman in your land will be barren or miscarry; and I will give you a full span of life.	26 Non vi sarà nella tua terra donna che abortisca o che sia sterile. Ti farò giungere al numero completo dei tuoi giorni.
27 "I will have the fear of me precede you, so that I will throw into panic every nation you reach. I will make all your enemies turn from you in flight,	27 Manderò il mio terrore davanti a te e metterò in rotta ogni popolo in mezzo al quale entrerai; farò voltare le spalle a tutti i tuoi nemici davanti a te.
28 and ahead of you I will send hornets to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.	28 Manderò i calabroni davanti a te ed essi scacceranno dalla tua presenza l’Eveo, il Cananeo e l’Ittita.
29 But not in one year will I drive them all out before you; else the land will become so desolate that the wild beasts will multiply against you.	29 Non li scaccerò dalla tua presenza in un solo anno, perché non resti deserta la terra e le bestie selvatiche si moltiplichino contro di te.
30 Instead, I will drive them out little by little before you, until you have grown numerous enough to take possession of the land.	30 Li scaccerò dalla tua presenza a poco a poco, finché non avrai tanti discendenti da occupare la terra.
31 I will set your boundaries from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the River; all who dwell in this land I will hand over to you to be driven out of your way.	31 Stabilirò il tuo confine dal Mar Rosso fino al mare dei Filistei e dal deserto fino al Fiume, perché ti consegnerò in mano gli abitanti della terra e li scaccerò dalla tua presenza.
32 You shall not make a covenant with them or their gods.	32 Ma tu non farai alleanza con loro e con i loro dèi;
33 They must not abide in your land, lest they make you sin against me by ensnaring you into worshiping their gods."	33 essi non abiteranno più nella tua terra, altrimenti ti farebbero peccare contro di me, perché tu serviresti i loro dèi e ciò diventerebbe una trappola per te».
