1 Joash was seven years old when he became king.	1 Quando divenne re, Ioas aveva sette anni.
2 Joash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, who was named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.	2 Egli incominciò a regnare nell'anno settimo di Ieu e regnò quarant'anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Sibia, da Bersabea.
3 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as he lived, because the priest Jehoiada guided him.	3 Ioas fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore per tutta la sua vita, perché il sacerdote Ioiada l'aveva istruito.
4 Still, the high places did not disappear; the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense there.	4 Soltanto non furono rimosse le alture, cosicché il popolo offriva sacrifici e bruciava aromi su di esse.
5 For the priests Joash made this rule: "All the funds for sacred purposes that are brought to the temple of the LORD--the census tax, personal redemption money, and whatever funds are freely brought to the temple of the LORD--	5 Ioas disse ai sacerdoti: "Tutto il denaro consacrato che viene portato al tempio del Signore, il denaro di chi diventa maggiorenne, il denaro fissato per il riscatto delle persone e tutto il denaro che ognuno desidera portare al tempio del Signore,
6 the priests may take for themselves, each from his own clients. However, they must make whatever repairs on the temple may prove necessary."	6 i sacerdoti lo prendano, ciascuno dal proprio conoscente, e riparino i danni del tempio dovunque si trovino".
7 Nevertheless, as late as the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not made needed repairs on the temple.	7 Tuttavia nell'anno ventitreesimo del re Ioas i sacerdoti non avevano ancora riparato i danni del tempio.
8 Accordingly, King Joash summoned the priest Jehoiada and the other priests. "Why do you not repair the temple?" he asked them. "You must no longer take funds from your clients, but you shall turn them over for the repairs."	8 Allora il re Ioas convocò il sacerdote Ioiada e i sacerdoti e disse loro: "Perché non riparate i danni del tempio? D'ora innanzi non prenderete più il denaro dai vostri conoscenti, ma lo darete a me per i danni del tempio".
9 So the priests agreed that they would neither take funds from the people nor make the repairs on the temple.	9 I sacerdoti acconsentirono a non ricevere più denaro dal popolo e a non riparare i danni del tempio.
10 The priest Jehoiada then took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the stele, on the right as one entered the temple of the LORD. The priests who guarded the entry would put into it all the funds that were brought to the temple of the LORD.	10 Il sacerdote Ioiada prese una cassa, praticò un foro nel coperchio e la collocò a fianco dell'altare, alla destra di chi entra nel tempio del Signore. I sacerdoti che custodivano l'ingresso vi ponevano dentro tutto il denaro portato nel tempio del Signore.
11 When they noticed that there was a large amount of silver in the chest, the royal scribe (and the priest) would come up, and they would melt down all the funds that were in the temple of the LORD, and weigh them.	11 Quando essi vedevano che nella cassa c'era molto denaro, saliva lo scriba del re, assieme al gran sacerdote, si raccoglieva e si contava il denaro che si trovava nel tempio del Signore.
12 The amount thus realized they turned over to the master workmen in the temple of the LORD. They in turn would give it to the carpenters and builders working in the temple of the LORD,	12 Controllato che avevano il denaro, lo consegnavano nelle mani dei capomastri addetti al tempio del Signore, i quali lo passavano ai carpentieri e agli operai che riparavano il tempio del Signore,
13 and to the lumbermen and stone cutters, and for the purchase of the wood and hewn stone used in repairing the breaches, and for any other expenses that were necessary to repair the temple.	13 ai muratori, ai tagliapietre, per acquistare legname e pietre squadrate destinate a riparare i danni del tempio del Signore, e cioè per tutte le spese necessarie ai restauri del tempio.
14 None of the funds brought to the temple of the LORD were used there to make silver cups, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any gold or silver article.	14 Con il denaro portato nel tempio del Signore non si facevano né bacini d'argento, né coltelli, né aspersori, né trombe, né alcun oggetto d'oro e d'argento,
15 Instead, they were given to the workmen, and with them they repaired the temple of the LORD.	15 bensì lo si dava agli esecutori dei lavori perché restaurassero il tempio del Signore.
16 Moreover, no reckoning was asked of the men who were provided with the funds to give to the workmen, because they held positions of trust.	16 Non si controllavano neppure le persone nelle cui mani era consegnato il denaro che doveva essere trasmesso agli esecutori dei lavori, perché essi agivano con onestà.
17 The funds from guilt-offerings and from sin-offerings, however, were not brought to the temple of the LORD; they belonged to the priests.	17 Il denaro per il sacrificio di riparazione e quello per il sacrificio per il peccato non era destinato al tempio del Signore, bensì era riservato ai sacerdoti.
18 Then King Hazael of Aram mounted a siege against Gath. When he had taken it, Hazael decided to go on to attack Jerusalem.	18 In quel tempo Cazaèl, re di Aram, salì per combattere contro Gat e la espugnò; poi si accinse a salire contro Gerusalemme.
19 But King Jehoash of Judah took all the dedicated offerings presented by his forebears, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, as well as his own, and all the gold there was in the treasuries of the temple and the palace, and sent them to King Hazael of Aram, who then led his forces away from Jerusalem.	19 Ma Ioas, re di Giuda, prese tutti i doni che i re di Giuda, suoi antenati, Giosafat, Ioram e Acazia avevano consacrato, i suoi sacri donativi e tutto l'oro ritrovato nei tesori del tempio del Signore e nel palazzo reale e lo inviò a Cazaèl, re di Aram. Questi allora si allontanò da Gerusalemme.
20 The rest of the acts of Joash, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.	20 Le altre gesta di Ioas e tutte le sue azioni non sono forse descritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda?
21 Certain of his officials entered into a plot against him and killed him at Beth-millo.	21 I suoi ufficiali si sollevarono, ordirono una congiura e uccisero Ioas a Bet-Millo, dove egli era disceso.
22 Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, were the officials who killed him. He was buried in his forefathers' City of David, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.	22 Iozacàr, figlio di Simeat, e Iozabàd, figlio di Somer, suoi ufficiali, lo colpirono ed egli morì. Lo seppellirono assieme ai suoi antenati nella Città di Davide e al suo posto regnò suo figlio Amazia.
