1 ויהי דבר יהוה אל יהוא בן חנני על בעשא לאמר	1 The word of Yahweh came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha:
2 יען אשר הרימתיך מן העפר ואתנך נגיד על עמי ישראל ותלך בדרך ירבעם ותחטא את עמי ישראל להכעיסני בחטאתם	2 'I raised you from the dust and made you leader of my people Israel, but you have fol owed Jeroboam'sexample and led my people Israel into sins which provoke my anger.
3 הנני מבעיר אחרי בעשא ואחרי ביתו ונתתי את ביתך כבית ירבעם בן נבט	3 Now I shal sweep away Baasha and his House; I shal make your House like the House of Jeroboamson of Nebat.
4 המת לבעשא בעיר יאכלו הכלבים והמת לו בשדה יאכלו עוף השמים	4 Those of Baasha's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the open country,the birds of the air wil eat.'
5 ויתר דברי בעשא ואשר עשה וגבורתו הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל	5 The rest of the history of Baasha, his career, his valour, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annalsof the Kings of Israel?
6 וישכב בעשא עם אבתיו ויקבר בתרצה וימלך אלה בנו תחתיו	6 When Baasha fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in Tirzah; his son Elah succeeded him.
7 וגם ביד יהוא בן חנני הנביא דבר יהוה היה אל בעשא ואל ביתו ועל כל הרעה אשר עשה בעיני יהוה להכעיסו במעשה ידיו להיות כבית ירבעם ועל אשר הכה אתו	7 Furthermore, the word of Yahweh was delivered through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani againstBaasha and his House, first because of the many ways in which he had displeased Yahweh, provoking him toanger by his actions and becoming like the House of Jeroboam; secondly because he had destroyed that House.
8 בשנת עשרים ושש שנה לאסא מלך יהודה מלך אלה בן בעשא על ישראל בתרצה שנתים	8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king of Israel at Tirzah, fortwo years.
9 ויקשר עליו עבדו זמרי שר מחצית הרכב והוא בתרצה שתה שכור בית ארצא אשר על הבית בתרצה	9 Zimri, one of his officers, captain of half his chariotry, plotted against him. While he was at Tirzah,drinking himself senseless in the house of Arza who was master of the palace in Tirzah,
10 ויבא זמרי ויכהו וימיתהו בשנת עשרים ושבע לאסא מלך יהודה וימלך תחתיו	10 Zimri came in, struck him down and kil ed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, andsucceeded him.
11 ויהי במלכו כשבתו על כסאו הכה את כל בית בעשא לא השאיר לו משתין בקיר וגאליו ורעהו	11 On his accession, as soon as he was seated on the throne, he butchered Baasha's entire family, notleaving him one manjack of them alive, neither relative nor friend.
12 וישמד זמרי את כל בית בעשא כדבר יהוה אשר דבר אל בעשא ביד יהוא הנביא	12 Zimri destroyed the whole House of Baasha, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spokenagainst Baasha through the prophet Jehu,
13 אל כל חטאות בעשא וחטאות אלה בנו אשר חטאו ואשר החטיאו את ישראל להכעיס את יהוה אלהי ישראל בהבליהם	13 because of all the sins of Baasha and his son Elah into which they had led Israel, provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of Israel, with their worthless idols.
14 ויתר דברי אלה וכל אשר עשה הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל	14 The history of Elah, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings ofIsrael?
15 בשנת עשרים ושבע שנה לאסא מלך יהודה מלך זמרי שבעת ימים בתרצה והעם חנים על גבתון אשר לפלשתים	15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri became king for seven days, at Tirzah. Thepeople were then encamped in front of Gibbethon, a Philistine town.
16 וישמע העם החנים לאמר קשר זמרי וגם הכה את המלך וימלכו כל ישראל את עמרי שר צבא על ישראל ביום ההוא במחנה	16 When news reached the camp of how Zimri had not only plotted against but actual y killed the king, alIsrael proclaimed the army commander Omri as king of Israel in the camp that very day.
17 ויעלה עמרי וכל ישראל עמו מגבתון ויצרו על תרצה	17 Omri, and all Israel with him, raised the siege of Gibbethon and laid siege to Tirzah.
18 ויהי כראות זמרי כי נלכדה העיר ויבא אל ארמון בית המלך וישרף עליו את בית מלך באש וימת	18 When Zimri saw that the town had been captured, he went into the keep of the royal palace, burnedthe palace over his own head, and died.
19 על חטאתיו אשר חטא לעשות הרע בעיני יהוה ללכת בדרך ירבעם ובחטאתו אשר עשה להחטיא את ישראל	19 This was because of the sin which he had committed in doing what is displeasing to Yahweh, bycopying the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which he had led Israel.
20 ויתר דברי זמרי וקשרו אשר קשר הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל	20 The rest of the history of Zimri and of his conspiracy, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Israel?
21 אז יחלק העם ישראל לחצי חצי העם היה אחרי תבני בן גינת להמליכו והחצי אחרי עמרי	21 The people of Israel then split into two factions: one half fol owing Tibni son of Ginath to make himking, the other half fol owing Omri.
22 ויחזק העם אשר אחרי עמרי את העם אשר אחרי תבני בן גינת וימת תבני וימלך עמרי	22 But the faction of Omri proved stronger than that of Tibni son of Ginath; thus Tibni lost his life andOmri became king.
23 בשנת שלשים ואחת שנה לאסא מלך יהודה מלך עמרי על ישראל שתים עשרה שנה בתרצה מלך שש שנים	23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king of Israel and reigned for twelve years.He reigned for six years at Tirzah.
24 ויקן את ההר שמרון מאת שמר בככרים כסף ויבן את ההר ויקרא את שם העיר אשר בנה על שם שמר אדני ההר שמרון	24 Then for two talents of silver he bought the hil of Samaria from Shemer and on it built a town whichhe named Samaria after Shemer who had owned the hil .
25 ויעשה עמרי הרע בעיני יהוה וירע מכל אשר לפניו	25 Omri did what is displeasing to Yahweh, and was worse than al his predecessors.
26 וילך בכל דרך ירבעם בן נבט ובחטאתיו אשר החטיא את ישראל להכעיס את יהוה אלהי ישראל בהבליהם	26 In every way he copied the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the sins into which he had ledIsrael, provoking the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel, with their worthless idols.
27 ויתר דברי עמרי אשר עשה וגבורתו אשר עשה הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל	27 The rest of the history of Omri, his career, his valour, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Israel?
28 וישכב עמרי עם אבתיו ויקבר בשמרון וימלך אחאב בנו תחתיו	28 When Omri fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in Samaria; his son Ahab succeeded him.
29 ואחאב בן עמרי מלך על ישראל בשנת שלשים ושמנה שנה לאסא מלך יהודה וימלך אחאב בן עמרי על ישראל בשמרון עשרים ושתים שנה	29 Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and reignedover Israel for twenty-two years in Samaria.
30 ויעש אחאב בן עמרי הרע בעיני יהוה מכל אשר לפניו	30 Ahab son of Omri did what is displeasing to Yahweh, and was worse than al his predecessors.
31 ויהי הנקל לכתו בחטאות ירבעם בן נבט ויקח אשה את איזבל בת אתבעל מלך צידנים וילך ויעבד את הבעל וישתחו לו	31 The least that he did was to fol ow the sinful example of Jeroboam son of Nebat: he married Jezebeldaughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and then proceeded to serve Baal and worship him.
32 ויקם מזבח לבעל בית הבעל אשר בנה בשמרון	32 He erected an altar to him in the temple of Baal which he built in Samaria.
33 ויעש אחאב את האשרה ויוסף אחאב לעשות להכעיס את יהוה אלהי ישראל מכל מלכי ישראל אשר היו לפניו	33 Ahab also put up a sacred pole and committed other crimes as well, provoking the anger of Yahweh,God of Israel, more than all the kings of Israel his predecessors.
34 בימיו בנה חיאל בית האלי את יריחה באבירם בכרו יסדה ובשגיב צעירו הציב דלתיה כדבר יהוה אשר דבר ביד יהושע בן נון	34 It was in his time that Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. Laying its foundations cost him his eldest sonAbiram and erecting its gates cost him his youngest son Segub, just as Yahweh had foretold through Joshua sonof Nun.
