BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E i figliuoli d'Israele, e tutta la moltitudine arrivarono al deserto di Sin il mese primo,e il popolo si fermò a Cades. E quivi si mori Maria, e fu sepolta nel medesimo luogo.	1 The Israelites, the whole community, arrived in the first month at the desert of Zin. The people settledat Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.
2 E penuriando di acque il popolo, si raunarono contro Mosé ed Aronne:	2 There was no water for the community, so they banded together against Moses and Aaron.
3 E levatisi a sedizione dissero: Fossimo noi periti insieme co' nostri fratelli dinanzi alSignore!	3 The people laid the blame on Moses. 'We would rather have died', they said, 'as our brothers diedbefore Yahweh!
4 Per qual ragione avete voi condotta la gente del Signore in una solitudine, affinché muoiannoi, e i nostri giumenti?	4 Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this desert, for us and our livestock to die here?
5 Perché ci avete fatti partir dall'Egitto, e condotti in questo luogo miserabile, dove non sipuò seminare, e il quale non produce né fichi, né viti, né melagrane, e oltre a ciò non dàacqua da bere?	5 Why did you lead us out of Egypt, only to bring us to this wretched place? It is a place unfit forsowing, it has no figs, no vines, no pomegranates, and there is not even water to drink!'
6 E Mosè ed Aronne, rimandata la moltitudine, entraron nel tabernacolo dell'alleanza, eprostrati boccone per terra alzaron le voci dinanzi al Signore, e dissero: Signore Dio,ascolta i clamori di questo popolo, e apri loro i tuoi tesori, una fontana di acqua viva,affinché si dissetino, e abbian fine le loro mormorazioni. E la gloria del Signore si fevedere sopra di essi	6 Leaving the assembly, Moses and Aaron went to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. They threwthemselves on their faces, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.
7 E il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:	7 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
8 Prendi la verga, e raduna il popolo tu, e Aronne tuo fratello, e alla loro presenza parlatealla pietra, ed ella darà dell'acque. E quando avrai cavata l'acqua dalla pietra, berà tuttoil popolo, e i suoi giumenti.	8 'Take the branch and call the community together, you and your brother Aaron. Then, in full view ofthem, order this rock to release its water. You wil release water from the rock for them and provide drink for thecommunity and their livestock.'
9 Prese adunque Mosè la verga, che era tenuta nel cospetto del Signore, come questi gli aveaordinato,	9 Moses took up the branch from before Yahweh, as he had directed him.
10 E raunata la moltitudine davanti a un masso, disse loro: Udite voi, ribelli e increduli:Potrem noi forse cavare a voi dell'acqua da questo masso?	10 Moses and Aaron then cal ed the assembly together in front of the rock. He then said to them,'Listen now, you rebels. Shall we make water gush from this rock for you?'
11 E avendo Mosè alzata la mano, e avendo percossa due volte colla verga la pietra, nescaturirono acque in grandissima copia, talmente che bevve il popolo, e i suoi bestiami.	11 Moses then raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the branch; water gushed out inabundance, and the community and their livestock drank.
12 E il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: Perché voi non avete creduto a me per far conoscerela mia santità dinanzi a' figliuoli d'Israele, voi non introdurrete questi popoli nellaterra, che io darò loro.	12 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not believe that I could assert my holinessbefore the Israelites' eyes, you wil not lead this assembly into the country which I am giving them.'
13 Questa è l'acqua di contraddizione, dove i figliuoli d'Israele altercarono contro ilSignore, ed egli fece conoscere ad essi la sua santità.	13 These were the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites laid the blame on Yahweh and where, bytheir means, he asserted his holiness.
14 Frattanto Mosè spedì da Cades degli ambasciatori al re di Edom, perché gli dicessero: Questecose ti fa sapere Israele tuo fratello: Tu sai tutti i travagli, che abbiam sofferto:	14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh: 'To the king of Edom. Your brother Israel says this: You areaware of the great hardships we have encountered.
15 Come i padri nostri andarono in Egitto e ivi abbiam dimorato per lungo tempo, e gli Egizianistraziaron noi e i padri nostri:	15 Our ancestors went down to Egypt and there we stayed for a long time. But the Egyptians treated usbadly, as they had our ancestors.
16 E come noi alzammo le voci al Signore, ed egli ci esaudì, e mandò un Angelo a condurci fuordell'Egitto: ecco che adesso trovandoci nella città di Cades, che è agli ultimi tuoiconfini,	16 When we appealed to Yahweh, he heard our cry and, sending an angel, brought us out of Egypt,and here we are, now, at Kadesh, a town on the borders of your territory.
17 Preghiam che siaci permesso il passaggio per le tue terre. Noi non cammineremo pe' campi, néper le vigne, non beveremo acqua de' tuoi pozzi, ma anderemo per la pubblica strada senzavolgere né a destra, né a sinistra, fino a tanto che non siamo fuori del tuo dominio.	17 We ask permission to pass through your country. We shall not go through the fields or vineyards; weshall not drink the water from the wel s; we shal keep to the king's highway without turning to right or left until wehave passed through your territory.'
18 Risposegli Edom: Tu non passerai sul mio, altrimenti verrò armato ad incontrarti.	18 To which, Edom replied, 'You wil not pass through my country; if you do, I shal oppose you by forceof arms.'
19 Dissero a lui i figliuoli d'Israele: Noi anderemo per la strada battuta: e se beremo delletue acque noi, e i nostri bestiami, pagheremo quel che è giusto: non saravvi difficoltà sulprezzo, purché abbiamo spedito il transito.	19 To which the Israelites replied, 'We shal keep to the high road; if I and my flocks drink any of yourwater, I am wil ing to pay for it. Al I am asking is to pass through on foot.'
20 Ma quegli rispose: Non passerai. E tosto si mosse contro di essi con infinita moltitudine, egente valorosa:	20 Edom replied: 'You shal not pass,' and Edom opposed them in great numbers and great force.
21 Ei non volle condescendere alle preghiere, né dare il transito pe' suoi confini. Per la qualcosa Israele girò lontano da lui.	21 At Edom's refusal to grant Israel passage through his territory, Israel turned away.
22 E mosso il campo da Cades giunsero al monte Hor, che è a' confini della terra di Edom:	22 They set out from Kadesh, and the Israelites, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.
23 Dove il Signore parlò a Mosè,	23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the frontier of Edom, and said,
24 E disse: Vada Aronne a riunirsi al suo popolo: perocché egli non entrerà nella terra data dame ai figliuoli d'Israele, perché fu incredulo alle mie parole alle acque di contraddizione	24 'Aaron is to be gathered to his people; he will not enter the country which I have given to theIsraelites, since you both disobeyed my order at the Waters of Meribah.
25 Prendi Aronne, e con lui il suo figliuolo, e menali sul monte Hor.	25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up Mount Hor.
26 E spogliato il padre della sua veste, ne rivestirai il suo figliuolo Eleazaro: Aronne siriunirà (ai padri suoi), e ivi morrà.	26 Then take Aaron's robes off him and dress his son Eleazar in them. Aaron wil then be gathered tohis people; that is where he will die.'
27 Fece Mosè come aveva ordinato il Signore: e salirono al monte Hor, veggendoli tutto ilpopolo.	27 Moses did as Yahweh ordered. With the whole community watching, they went up Mount Hor.
28 E dopo ch'egli ebbe spogliato Aronne delle sue vesti, ne rivesti Eleazaro suo figliuolo.	28 Moses took Aaron's robes off him and dressed his son Eleazar in them, and there Aaron died, onthe mountain-top. Moses and Eleazar then came back down the mountain.
29 E morto che fu Aronne sulla cima del monte, (Mosè) discese con Eleazaro:	29 The whole community saw that Aaron had died, and for thirty days the whole House of Israelmourned for Aaron.
30 E tutta la moltitudine avendo udito come Aronne era morto, lo piansero in tutte le case pertrenta giorni.
