1 Il saggio re renderà la giustizia alsuo popolo, e il principato dell'uomo sensato sarà stabile.	1 A wise magistrate lends stability to his people, and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.
2 Quale è il giudice del popolo, tali i suoi ministri; e qual è il governatore della città, tali sono i suoi abitanti.	2 As the people's judge, so are his ministers; as the head of a city, its inhabitants.
3 Un re imprudente rovinerà il suo popolo: la prudenza de' grandi popolerà le cittadi.	3 A wanton king destroys his people, but a city grows through the wisdom of its princes.
4 Il dominio della terra è nella mano di Dio, ed egli lo darà a suo tempo a chi la governi utilmente.	4 Sovereignty over the earth is in the hand of God, who raises up on it the man of the hour;
5 La felicità dell'uomo è nelle mani di Dio, ed egli alla persona del dottor della legge fa parte della sua gloria.	5 Sovereignty over every man is in the hand of God, who imparts his majesty to the ruler.
6 Non aver memoria di alcuna delle ingiurie ricevute dal prossimo: e non far cosa veruna per nuocere altrui.	6 No matter the wrong, do no violence to your neighbor, and do not walk the path of arrogance.
7 E odiata da Dio, e dagli uomini la superbia, ed è avuta in esecrazione tutta l'iniquità delle genti.	7 Odious to the LORD and to men is arrogance, and the sin of oppression they both hate.
8 Il regno è trasportato da' una ad altra nazione a causa delle ingiustizie,e delle violenze, e degli oltraggi, e delle fraudi di molte maniere.	8 Dominion is transferred from one people to another because of the violence of the arrogant.
9 Nulla v'ha di più scellerato dell'avaro. Come mai la terra, e la cenere si leva in superbia.	9 Why are dust and ashes proud? even during life man's body decays;
10 Nulla v'ha di più iniquo, che colui, che ama il denaro; perocché questi mette in vendita anche l'anima sua; perocché egli ancor vivo si cava le proprie sue viscere.	10 A slight illness--the doctor jests, a king today--tomorrow he is dead.
11 Ogni potentato di corta vita. La lunga malattìa stanca il medico;	11 When a man dies, he inherits corruption; worms and gnats and maggots.
12 E fa breve la malattia il medico col troncarla; cosi anche il re, oggi è, e domani morrà.	12 The beginning of pride is man's stubbornness in withdrawing his heart from his Maker;
13 Or l'uomo alla sua morte avrà per suo retaggio de' sergenti, e delle bestie, e de' vermi.	13 For pride is the reservoir of sin, a source which runs over with vice; Because of it God sends unheard-of afflictions and brings men to utter ruin.
14 La prima superbia dell'uomo è di apostatare da Dio:	14 The thrones of the arrogant God overturns and establishes the lowly in their stead.
15 Mentre il cuor di lui si allontana da colui, che lò creò; onde il primo di tutti i peccati ell'è la superbia: e chi è governato da lei, sarà ricolmo di abbominazioni, ed ella alla fine lo manderà in rovina.	15 The roots of the proud God plucks up, to plant the humble in their place:
16 Per questo il Signore caricò di ignominie la razza dei malvagi, e li distrasse fino all'esterminio.	16 He breaks down their stem to the level of the ground, then digs their roots from the earth.
17 Dio gettò a terra i troni de' principi superbi, e in luogo di essi fece sedere i mansueti.	17 The traces of the proud God sweeps away and effaces the memory of them from the earth.
18 Dio fe' seccar le radici delle superbe nazioni: e piantò quelli, che tra le genti medesime erano abbietti.	18 Insolence is not allotted to a man, nor stubborn anger to one born of woman.
19 Il Signore distrusse le terre delle nazioni, e rovinolle dai fondamenti;	19 Whose offspring can be in honor? Those of men. Which offspring are in honor? Those who fear God. Whose offspring can be in disgrace? Those of men. Which offspring are in disgrace? Those who transgress the commandments.
20 Alcune di esse egli le desolò, e né sperse gli abitanti, e fece sparire dal mondo la loro memoria.	20 Among brethren their leader is in honor; he who fears God is in honor among his people.
21 Dio annichilò la memoria de' superbi, e conservò la memoria degli umili di spirito.	21 Be it tenant or wayfarer, alien or pauper, his glory is the fear of the LORD.
22 Non è ingenita agli uomini la superbia, né l'iracondia ai figliuoli delle donne.	22 It is not just to despise a man who is wise but poor, nor proper to honor any sinner.
23 Quella stirpe di uomini, che teme Dio, sarà onorata; e disonorata sarà quella stirpe, che trasgredisce i comandamenti del Signore.	23 The prince, the ruler, the judge are in honor; but none is greater than he who fears God.
24 Trai fratelli quegli, che governa è in onore; cosi dinanzi al Signore sarà di quelli, che lo temono.	24 When free men serve a prudent slave, the wise man does not complain.
25 La gloria de' ricchi, e degli uomini in dignità, e de' poveri è il timor del Signore.	25 Flaunt not your wisdom in managing your affairs, and boast not in your time of need.
26 Guardati dal disprezzare il giusto, perché povero: guardati dal far grande stima del peccatore, perché ricco.	26 Better the worker who has plenty of everything than the boaster who is without bread.
27 I grandi, i magistrati, i potenti sono onorati; ma nissuno è da più dì quello, che teme Dio.	27 My son, with humility have self-esteem; prize yourself as you deserve.
28 Al servo sapiente serviranno uomini liberi, e l'uom prudente, e disciplinato non mormorerà quando sia ripreso; ma l'imprudente non otterrà gli onori.	28 Who will acquit him who condemns himself? who will honor him who discredits himself?
29 Non vantar tua grandezza quando hai da fare il fatto tuo, e non istare a vedere nel tempo di necessità;	29 The poor man is honored for his wisdom as the rich man is honored for his wealth;
30 Perocché è più stimabile colui, che lavora, e abbonda dì tutto, che il glorioso, il quale manca di pane.	30 Honored in poverty, how much more so in wealth! Dishonored in wealth, in poverty how much the more!
31 Figliuolo custodisci colla mansuetudine l'anima tua, e onorala, secondo che ella merita.
32 Chi giustificherà colui, che pecca contro l'anima sua? e chi onorerà colui, che disonora l'anima propria?
33 Il povero arrida alla gloria per mezzo de' buoni costumi, e del timore di Dio; ed havvi chi è rispettato a motivo di sue ricchezze.
34 Ma colui, che è glorioso nella povertà, quanto più il sarebbe colle ricchezze? Ma colui, che fonda sua gloria: nelle ricchezze ha da temere là povertà.
