τοις αδελφοις τοις κατ' αιγυπτον ιουδαιοις χαιρειν οι αδελφοι οι εν ιεροσολυμοις ιουδαιοι και οι εν τη χωρα της ιουδαιας ειρηνην αγαθην | 1 To the brethren the Jews that are I throughout Egypt, the brethren, the Jews that are in Jerusalem, and in the land of Judea, send health, and good peace. |
και αγαθοποιησαι υμιν ο θεος και μνησθειη της διαθηκης αυτου της προς αβρααμ και ισαακ και ιακωβ των δουλων αυτου των πιστων | 2 May God be gracious to you, and remember his covenant that he made with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, his faithful servants: |
και δωη υμιν καρδιαν πασιν εις το σεβεσθαι αυτον και ποιειν αυτου τα θεληματα καρδια μεγαλη και ψυχη βουλομενη | 3 And give you all a heart to worship him, and to do his will with a great heart, and a willing mind. |
και διανοιξαι την καρδιαν υμων εν τω νομω αυτου και εν τοις προσταγμασιν και ειρηνην ποιησαι | 4 May he open your heart in his law, and in his commandments, and send you peace. |
και επακουσαι υμων των δεησεων και καταλλαγειη υμιν και μη υμας εγκαταλιποι εν καιρω πονηρω | 5 May he hear your prayers, and be reconciled unto you, and never forsake you in the evil time. |
και νυν ωδε εσμεν προσευχομενοι περι υμων | 6 And now here we are praying for you. |
βασιλευοντος δημητριου ετους εκατοστου εξηκοστου ενατου ημεις οι ιουδαιοι γεγραφαμεν υμιν εν τη θλιψει και εν τη ακμη τη επελθουση ημιν εν τοις ετεσιν τουτοις αφ' ου απεστη ιασων και οι μετ' αυτου απο της αγιας γης και της βασιλειας | 7 When Demetrius reigned, in the year one hundred and sixty-nine, we Jews wrote to you, in the trouble, and violence, that came upon us in those years, after Jason withdrew himself from the holy land, and from the kingdom. |
και ενεπυρισαν τον πυλωνα και εξεχεαν αιμα αθωον και εδεηθημεν του κυριου και εισηκουσθημεν και προσηνεγκαμεν θυσιαν και σεμιδαλιν και εξηψαμεν τους λυχνους και προεθηκαμεν τους αρτους | 8 They burnt the gate, and shed innocent blood: then we prayed to the Lord, and were heard, and we offered sacrifices, and fine flour, and lighted the lamps, and set forth the leaves. |
και νυν ινα αγητε τας ημερας της σκηνοπηγιας του χασελευ μηνος ετους εκατοστου ογδοηκοστου και ογδοου | 9 And now celebrate ye the days of Scenopegia in the month of Casleu. |
οι εν ιεροσολυμοις και οι εν τη ιουδαια και η γερουσια και ιουδας αριστοβουλω διδασκαλω πτολεμαιου του βασιλεως οντι δε απο του των χριστων ιερεων γενους και τοις εν αιγυπτω ιουδαιοις χαιρειν και υγιαινειν | 10 In the year Bone hundred and eightyeight, the people that is at Jerusalem, and in Judea, and the senate, and Judas, to Aristobolus, the preceptor of king Ptolemee, who is of the stock of the anointed priests, and to the Jews that are in Egypt, health and welfare. |
εκ μεγαλων κινδυνων υπο του θεου σεσωσμενοι μεγαλως ευχαριστουμεν αυτω ως αν προς βασιλεα παρατασσομενοι | 11 Having been delivered by God out of great dangers, we give him great thanks, forasmuch as we have been in war with such a king. |
αυτος γαρ εξεβρασεν τους παραταξαμενους εν τη αγια πολει | 12 For he made numbers of men swarm out of Persia that have fought against us, and the holy city. |
εις την περσιδα γενομενος γαρ ο ηγεμων και η περι αυτον ανυποστατος δοκουσα ειναι δυναμις κατεκοπησαν εν τω της ναναιας ιερω παραλογισμω χρησαμενων των περι την ναναιαν ιερεων | 13 For when the leader himself was in Persia, and with him a very great army, he fell in the temple of Nanea, being deceived by the counsel of the priests of Nanea. |
ως γαρ συνοικησων αυτη παρεγενετο εις τον τοπον ο τε αντιοχος και οι συν αυτω φιλοι χαριν του λαβειν τα χρηματα πλειονα εις φερνης λογον | 14 For Antiochus, with his friends, came to the place as though he would marry her, and that he might receive great sums of money under the title of a dowry. |
και προθεντων αυτα των ιερεων του ναναιου κακεινου προσελθοντος μετ' ολιγων εις τον περιβολον του τεμενους συγκλεισαντες το ιερον ως εισηλθεν αντιοχος | 15 And when the priests of Nanea had set it forth, and he with a small company had entered into the compass of the temple, they shut the temple, |
ανοιξαντες την του φατνωματος κρυπτην θυραν βαλλοντες πετρους συνεκεραυνωσαν τον ηγεμονα και μελη ποιησαντες και τας κεφαλας αφελοντες τοις εξω παρερριψαν | 16 When Antiochus was came in: and opening a secret entrance of the temple, they cast stones and slew the leader, and them that were with him, and hewed them in pieces, and cutting off their heads they threw them forth. |
κατα παντα ευλογητος ημων ο θεος ος παρεδωκεν τους ασεβησαντας | 17 Blessed be God in all things, who hath delivered up the wicked. |
μελλοντες αγειν εν τω χασελευ πεμπτη και εικαδι τον καθαρισμον του ιερου δεον ηγησαμεθα διασαφησαι υμιν ινα και αυτοι αγητε σκηνοπηγιας και του πυρος οτε νεεμιας ο οικοδομησας το τε ιερον και το θυσιαστηριον ανηνεγκεν θυσιας | 18 Therefore whereas we purpose to keep the purification of the temple on the five and twentieth day of the month of Casleu, we thought it necessary to signify it to you: that you also may keep the day of Scenopegia, and the day of the fire, that was given when Nehemias offered sacrifice, after the temple and the altar was built. |
και γαρ οτε εις την περσικην ηγοντο ημων οι πατερες οι τοτε ευσεβεις ιερεις λαβοντες απο του πυρος του θυσιαστηριου λαθραιως κατεκρυψαν εν κοιλωματι φρεατος ταξιν εχοντος ανυδρον εν ω κατησφαλισαντο ωστε πασιν αγνωστον ειναι τον τοπον | 19 For when our fathers were led in Persia, the priests that then were worshippers of God took privately the fire from the altar, and hid it in a valley where there was a deep pit without water, and there they kept it safe, |
διελθοντων δε ετων ικανων οτε εδοξεν τω θεω αποσταλεις νεεμιας υπο του βασιλεως της περσιδος τους εκγονους των ιερεων των αποκρυψαντων επεμψεν επι το πυρ ως δε διεσαφησαν ημιν μη ευρηκεναι πυρ αλλα υδωρ παχυ εκελευσεν αυτους αποβαψαντας φερειν | 20 But when many years had passed, and it pleased God that Nehemias should be sent by the king of Persia, he sent some of the posterity of those priests that had hid it, to seek for the fire: and as they told us, they found no fire, but thick water. |
ως δε ανηνεχθη τα των θυσιων εκελευσεν τους ιερεις νεεμιας επιρραναι τω υδατι τα τε ξυλα και τα επικειμενα | 21 Then he bade them draw it up, and bring it to him: and the priest Nehemias commanded the sacrifices that were laid on, to be sprinkled with the same water, both the wood, and the things that were laid upon it. |
ως δε εγενετο τουτο και χρονος διηλθεν ο τε ηλιος ανελαμψεν προτερον επινεφης ων ανηφθη πυρα μεγαλη ωστε θαυμασαι παντας | 22 And when this was done, and the time came that the sun shone out, which before was in a cloud, there was a great fire kindled, so that all wondered. |
προσευχην δε εποιησαντο οι ιερεις δαπανωμενης της θυσιας οι τε ιερεις και παντες καταρχομενου ιωναθου των δε λοιπων επιφωνουντων ως νεεμιου | 23 And all the priests made prayer, while the sacrifice was consuming, Jonathan beginning, and the rest answering. |
ην δε η προσευχη τον τροπον εχουσα τουτον κυριε κυριε ο θεος ο παντων κτιστης ο φοβερος και ισχυρος και δικαιος και ελεημων ο μονος βασιλευς και χρηστος | 24 And the prayer of Nehemias was after this manner: 0 Lord God, Creator of all things, dreadful and strong, just and merciful, who alone art the goad king, |
ο μονος χορηγος ο μονος δικαιος και παντοκρατωρ και αιωνιος ο διασωζων τον ισραηλ εκ παντος κακου ο ποιησας τους πατερας εκλεκτους και αγιασας αυτους | 25 Who alone art gracious, who alone art just, and almighty, and eternal, who deliverest Israel from all evil, who didst choose the fathers and didst sanctify them : |
προσδεξαι την θυσιαν υπερ παντος του λαου σου ισραηλ και διαφυλαξον την μεριδα σου και καθαγιασον | 26 Receive the sacrifice for all thy people Israel, and preserve thy own portion, and sanctify it. |
επισυναγαγε την διασποραν ημων ελευθερωσον τους δουλευοντας εν τοις εθνεσιν τους εξουθενημενους και βδελυκτους επιδε και γνωτωσαν τα εθνη οτι συ ει ο θεος ημων | 27 Gather together our scattered people, deliver them that are slaves to the Gentiles, and look upon them that are despised and abhorred: that the Gentiles may know that thou art our God. |
βασανισον τους καταδυναστευοντας και εξυβριζοντας εν υπερηφανια | 28 Punish them that oppress us, and that treat us injuriously with pride. |
καταφυτευσον τον λαον σου εις τον τοπον τον αγιον σου καθως ειπεν μωυσης | 29 Establish thy people in thy holy place, as Moses hath spoken. |
οι δε ιερεις επεψαλλον τους υμνους | 30 And the priests sung hymns till the sacrifice was consumed. |
καθως δε ανηλωθη τα της θυσιας και το περιλειπομενον υδωρ ο νεεμιας εκελευσεν λιθους μειζονας καταχειν | 31 And when the sacrifice was consumed, Nehemias commanded the water that was left to be poured out upon the great stones. |
ως δε τουτο εγενηθη φλοξ ανηφθη του δε απο του θυσιαστηριου αντιλαμψαντος φωτος εδαπανηθη | 32 Which being done, there -was kindled a dame from them: but it was consumed by the light that shined from the altar. |
ως δε φανερον εγενηθη το πραγμα και διηγγελη τω βασιλει των περσων οτι εις τον τοπον ου το πυρ εκρυψαν οι μεταχθεντες ιερεις το υδωρ εφανη αφ' ου και οι περι τον νεεμιαν ηγνισαν τα της θυσιας | 33 And when this matter became public, it was told to the king of Persia, that in the place where the priests that were led away, had hid the fire, there appeared water, with which Nehemias and they that were with him had purified the sacrifices. |
περιφραξας δε ο βασιλευς ιερον εποιησεν δοκιμασας το πραγμα | 34 And the king considering, and diligently examining the matter, made a temple for it, that he might prove what had happened. |
και οις εχαριζετο ο βασιλευς πολλα διαφορα ελαμβανεν και μετεδιδου | 35 And when he had proved it, he gave the priests many goods, and divers presents, and he took end distributed them to them with his own hand. |
προσηγορευσαν δε οι περι τον νεεμιαν τουτο νεφθαρ ο διερμηνευεται καθαρισμος καλειται δε παρα τοις πολλοις νεφθαι | 36 And Nehemias called this place Nephthar, which is interpreted purification. But many call it Nephi. |
