LXXNEW JERUSALEM
και εγενετο ως ηκουσεν ο βασιλευς εζεκιας και διερρηξεν τα ιματια εαυτου και περιεβαλετο σακκον και εισηλθεν εις οικον κυριου1 On hearing this, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and went to the Temple of Yahweh.
και απεστειλεν ελιακιμ τον οικονομον και σομναν τον γραμματεα και τους πρεσβυτερους των ιερεων περιβεβλημενους σακκους προς ησαιαν τον προφητην υιον αμως2 He sent Eliakim master of the palace, Shebnah the secretary and the elders of the priests, wearingsackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.
και ειπον προς αυτον ταδε λεγει εζεκιας ημερα θλιψεως και ελεγμου και παροργισμου η ημερα αυτη οτι ηλθον υιοι εως ωδινων και ισχυς ουκ εστιν τη τικτουση3 They said to him, 'This is what Hezekiah says, "Today is a day of suffering, of punishment, of disgrace.Children come to birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.
ει πως εισακουσεται κυριος ο θεος σου παντας τους λογους ραψακου ον απεστειλεν αυτον βασιλευς ασσυριων ο κυριος αυτου ονειδιζειν θεον ζωντα και βλασφημειν εν λογοις οις ηκουσεν κυριος ο θεος σου και λημψη προσευχην περι του λειμματος του ευρισκομενου4 May Yahweh your God hear the words of the cupbearer-in-chief whom his master, the king of Assyria,has sent to insult the living God, and may Yahweh your God punish the words he has heard. Offer your prayerfor the remnant stil remaining." '
και ηλθον οι παιδες του βασιλεως εζεκιου προς ησαιαν5 King Hezekiah's ministers went to Isaiah,
και ειπεν αυτοις ησαιας ταδε ερειτε προς τον κυριον υμων ταδε λεγει κυριος μη φοβηθης απο των λογων ων ηκουσας ων εβλασφημησαν τα παιδαρια βασιλεως ασσυριων6 and Isaiah said to them, 'Say to your master, "Yahweh says this: Do not be afraid of the words whichyou have heard or the blasphemies which the king of Assyria's minions have uttered against me.
ιδου εγω διδωμι εν αυτω πνευμα και ακουσεται αγγελιαν και αποστραφησεται εις την γην αυτου και καταβαλω αυτον εν ρομφαια εν τη γη αυτου7 Look, I am going to put a spirit in him and, on the strength of a rumour, he wil go back to his owncountry, and in that country I shall make him fal by the sword." '
και επεστρεψεν ραψακης και ευρεν τον βασιλεα ασσυριων πολεμουντα επι λομνα οτι ηκουσεν οτι απηρεν απο λαχις8 The cupbearer turned about and rejoined the king of Assyria, who was then attacking Libnah, as thecupbearer had learnt that the king had already left Lachish
και ηκουσεν περι θαρακα βασιλεως αιθιοπων λεγων ιδου εξηλθεν πολεμειν μετα σου και επεστρεψεν και απεστειλεν αγγελους προς εζεκιαν λεγων9 on hearing that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to attack him.
μη επαιρετω σε ο θεος σου εφ' ω συ πεποιθας επ' αυτω λεγων ου μη παραδοθη ιερουσαλημ εις χειρας βασιλεως ασσυριων10 Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 'Tel Hezekiah king of Judah this, "Do notlet your God on whom you are relying deceive you with the promise: Jerusalem wil not fal into the king ofAssyria's clutches.
ιδου συ ηκουσας παντα οσα εποιησαν βασιλεις ασσυριων πασαις ταις γαις του αναθεματισαι αυτας και συ ρυσθηση11 You have learnt by now what the kings of Assyria have done to al the other countries, devoting themto destruction. Are you likely to be saved?
μη εξειλαντο αυτους οι θεοι των εθνων ους διεφθειραν οι πατερες μου την τε γωζαν και την χαρραν και ραφες και υιους εδεμ τους εν θαεσθεν12 Did the gods of the nations whom my ancestors devastated save them-Gozan, Haran, Rezeph andthe Edenites who were in Tel Basar?
που εστιν ο βασιλευς αιμαθ και ο βασιλευς αρφαδ και που εστιν σεπφαρουαιν ανα και αυα13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of Lair, of Sepharvaim, of Hena, of Ivvah?" '
και ελαβεν εζεκιας τα βιβλια εκ χειρος των αγγελων και ανεγνω αυτα και ανεβη εις οικον κυριου και ανεπτυξεν αυτα εζεκιας εναντιον κυριου14 Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands and read it; he then went up to the Temple ofYahweh and spread it out before Yahweh.
και ειπεν κυριε ο θεος ισραηλ ο καθημενος επι των χερουβιν συ ει ο θεος μονος εν πασαις ταις βασιλειαις της γης συ εποιησας τον ουρανον και την γην15 Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh, 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned onthe winged creatures, you alone are God of al the kingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth.
κλινον κυριε το ους σου και ακουσον ανοιξον κυριε τους οφθαλμους σου και ιδε και ακουσον τους λογους σενναχηριμ ους απεστειλεν ονειδιζειν θεον ζωντα16 Give ear, Yahweh, and listen; open your eyes, Yahweh, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib,who has sent to insult the living God.
οτι αληθεια κυριε ηρημωσαν βασιλεις ασσυριων τα εθνη17 It is true, Yahweh, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations,
και εδωκαν τους θεους αυτων εις το πυρ οτι ου θεοι εισιν αλλ' η εργα χειρων ανθρωπων ξυλα και λιθοι και απωλεσαν αυτους18 they have thrown their gods on the fire, for these were not gods but human artefacts -- wood andstone -- and hence they have destroyed them.
και νυν κυριε ο θεος ημων σωσον ημας εκ χειρος αυτου και γνωσονται πασαι αι βασιλειαι της γης οτι συ κυριος ο θεος μονος19 But now, Yahweh our God, save us from his clutches, I beg you, and let all the kingdoms of the worldknow that you alone are God, Yahweh.'
και απεστειλεν ησαιας υιος αμως προς εζεκιαν λεγων ταδε λεγει κυριος ο θεος των δυναμεων ο θεος ισραηλ α προσηυξω προς με περι σενναχηριμ βασιλεως ασσυριων ηκουσα20 Isaiah son of Amoz then sent the fol owing message to Hezekiah, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "Ihave heard the prayer which you have addressed to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria."
ουτος ο λογος ον ελαλησεν κυριος επ' αυτον εξουδενησεν σε και εμυκτηρισεν σε παρθενος θυγατηρ σιων επι σοι κεφαλην αυτης εκινησεν θυγατηρ ιερουσαλημ21 Here is the pronouncement which Yahweh has made about him: "She despises you, she scorns you,the virgin daughter of Zion; she tosses her head at you, the daughter of Jerusalem!
τινα ωνειδισας και εβλασφημησας και επι τινα υψωσας φωνην και ηρας εις υψος τους οφθαλμους σου εις τον αγιον του ισραηλ22 Whom have you insulted, whom have you blasphemed? Against whom raised your voice and liftedyour haughty eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!
εν χειρι αγγελων σου ωνειδισας κυριον και ειπας εν τω πληθει των αρματων μου εγω αναβησομαι εις υψος ορεων μηρους του λιβανου και εκοψα το μεγεθος της κεδρου αυτου τα εκλεκτα κυπαρισσων αυτου και ηλθον εις μελον τελους αυτου δρυμου καρμηλου αυτου23 Through your envoys you have insulted the Lord, thinking: With my many chariots I have climbed themountain-tops, the utmost peaks of Lebanon. I have fel ed its mighty cedars, its finest cypresses, have reachedits furthest recesses, its forest garden.
εγω εψυξα και επιον υδατα αλλοτρια και εξηρημωσα τω ιχνει του ποδος μου παντας ποταμους περιοχης24 Yes, I have dug and drunk of foreign waters; under the soles of my feet I have dried up al Egypt'srivers.
επλασα αυτην νυν ηγαγον αυτην και εγενηθη εις επαρσεις αποικεσιων μαχιμων πολεις οχυρας25 "Do you hear? Long ago I prepared this, from days of old I actual y planned it, now I carry it out. Youwere to lay walled cities in heaps of ruins;
και οι ενοικουντες εν αυταις ησθενησαν τη χειρι επτηξαν και κατησχυνθησαν εγενοντο χορτος αγρου η χλωρα βοτανη χλοη δωματων και πατημα απεναντι εστηκοτος26 that was why their inhabitants, feeble of hand, were dismayed and discomfited, were weak as grass,were frail as plants, were like grass of housetop and meadow under the east wind.
και την καθεδραν σου και την εξοδον σου και την εισοδον σου εγνων και τον θυμον σου επ' εμε27 But whether you stand up or you sit down, whether you go out or you come in, I know it.
δια το οργισθηναι σε επ' εμε και το στρηνος σου ανεβη εν τοις ωσιν μου και θησω τα αγκιστρα μου εν τοις μυκτηρσιν σου και χαλινον εν τοις χειλεσιν σου και αποστρεψω σε εν τη οδω η ηλθες εν αυτη28 Because you have raved against me, and your arrogance has reached my ears, I shal put a hookthrough your nostrils and a muzzle on your lips, and make you return by the road by which you came.
και τουτο σοι το σημειον φαγη τουτον τον ενιαυτον αυτοματα και τω ετει τω δευτερω τα ανατελλοντα και ετι τριτω σπορα και αμητος και φυτεια αμπελωνων και φαγεσθε τον καρπον αυτων29 "And this wil be the sign for you: this year wil be eaten the self-sown grain, next year what sprouts inthe fallow; but in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
και προσθησει το διασεσωσμενον οικου ιουδα το υπολειφθεν ριζαν κατω και ποιησει καρπον ανω30 The surviving remnant of the House of Judah wil bring forth new roots below and fruits above;
οτι εξ ιερουσαλημ εξελευσεται καταλειμμα και ανασωζομενος εξ ορους σιων ο ζηλος κυριου των δυναμεων ποιησει τουτο31 for a remnant wil issue from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. Yahweh Sabaoth's jealouslove wil accomplish this.
ουχ ουτως ταδε λεγει κυριος προς βασιλεα ασσυριων ουκ εισελευσεται εις την πολιν ταυτην και ου τοξευσει εκει βελος και ου προφθασει αυτην θυρεος και ου μη εκχεη προς αυτην προσχωμα32 "This, then, is what Yahweh says about the king of Assyria: "He wil not enter this city, wil shoot noarrow at it, confront it with no shield, throw up no earthwork against it.
τη οδω η ηλθεν εν αυτη αποστραφησεται και εις την πολιν ταυτην ουκ εισελευσεται λεγει κυριος33 By the road by which he came, by that he wil return; he wil not enter this city, declares Yahweh.
και υπερασπιω υπερ της πολεως ταυτης δι' εμε και δια δαυιδ τον δουλον μου34 I shal protect this city and save it for my sake and my servant David's sake." '
και εγενετο εως νυκτος και εξηλθεν αγγελος κυριου και επαταξεν εν τη παρεμβολη των ασσυριων εκατον ογδοηκοντα πεντε χιλιαδας και ωρθρισαν το πρωι και ιδου παντες σωματα νεκρα35 That same night the angel of Yahweh went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousandmen in the Assyrian camp. In the early morning when it was time to get up, there they lay, so many corpses.
και απηρεν και επορευθη και απεστρεψεν σενναχηριμ βασιλευς ασσυριων και ωκησεν εν νινευη36 Sennacherib struck camp and left; he returned home and stayed in Nineveh.
και εγενετο αυτου προσκυνουντος εν οικω νεσεραχ θεου αυτου και αδραμελεχ και σαρασαρ οι υιοι αυτου επαταξαν αυτον εν μαχαιρα και αυτοι εσωθησαν εις γην αραρατ και εβασιλευσεν ασορδαν ο υιος αυτου αντ' αυτου37 One day when he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech andSharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped into the territory of Ararat. His son Esarhaddonsucceeded him.
