1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,	1 Jesus erfuhr, dass die Pharisäer gehört hatten, er gewinne und taufe mehr Jünger als Johannes -
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)	2 allerdings taufte nicht Jesus selbst, sondern seine Jünger -;
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.	3 daraufhin verließ er Judäa und ging wieder nach Galiläa.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.	4 Er musste aber den Weg durch Samarien nehmen.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.	5 So kam er zu einem Ort in Samarien, der Sychar hieß und nahe bei dem Grundstück lag, das Jakob seinem Sohn Josef vermacht hatte.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.	6 Dort befand sich der Jakobsbrunnen. Jesus war müde von der Reise und setzte sich daher an den Brunnen; es war um die sechste Stunde.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.	7 Da kam eine samaritische Frau, um Wasser zu schöpfen. Jesus sagte zu ihr: Gib mir zu trinken!
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)	8 Seine Jünger waren nämlich in den Ort gegangen, um etwas zum Essen zu kaufen.
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.	9 Die samaritische Frau sagte zu ihm: Wie kannst du als Jude mich, eine Samariterin, um Wasser bitten? Die Juden verkehren nämlich nicht mit den Samaritern.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.	10 Jesus antwortete ihr: Wenn du wüsstest, worin die Gabe Gottes besteht und wer es ist, der zu dir sagt: Gib mir zu trinken!, dann hättest du ihn gebeten, und er hätte dir lebendiges Wasser gegeben.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?	11 Sie sagte zu ihm: Herr, du hast kein Schöpfgefäß, und der Brunnen ist tief; woher hast du also das lebendige Wasser?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?	12 Bist du etwa größer als unser Vater Jakob, der uns den Brunnen gegeben und selbst daraus getrunken hat, wie seine Söhne und seine Herden?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:	13 Jesus antwortete ihr: Wer von diesem Wasser trinkt, wird wieder Durst bekommen;
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.	14 wer aber von dem Wasser trinkt, das ich ihm geben werde, wird niemals mehr Durst haben; vielmehr wird das Wasser, das ich ihm gebe, in ihm zur sprudelnden Quelle werden, deren Wasser ewiges Leben schenkt.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.	15 Da sagte die Frau zu ihm: Herr, gib mir dieses Wasser, damit ich keinen Durst mehr habe und nicht mehr hierher kommen muss, um Wasser zu schöpfen.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.	16 Er sagte zu ihr: Geh, ruf deinen Mann und komm wieder her!
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:	17 Die Frau antwortete: Ich habe keinen Mann. Jesus sagte zu ihr: Du hast richtig gesagt: Ich habe keinen Mann.
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.	18 Denn fünf Männer hast du gehabt und der, den du jetzt hast, ist nicht dein Mann. Damit hast du die Wahrheit gesagt.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.	19 Die Frau sagte zu ihm: Herr, ich sehe, dass du ein Prophet bist.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.	20 Unsere Väter haben auf diesem Berg Gott angebetet; ihr aber sagt, in Jerusalem sei die Stätte, wo man anbeten muss.
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.	21 Jesus sprach zu ihr: Glaube mir, Frau, die Stunde kommt, zu der ihr weder auf diesem Berg noch in Jerusalem den Vater anbeten werdet.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.	22 Ihr betet an, was ihr nicht kennt, wir beten an, was wir kennen; denn das Heil kommt von den Juden.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.	23 Aber die Stunde kommt und sie ist schon da, zu der die wahren Beter den Vater anbeten werden im Geist und in der Wahrheit; denn so will der Vater angebetet werden.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.	24 Gott ist Geist und alle, die ihn anbeten, müssen im Geist und in der Wahrheit anbeten.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.	25 Die Frau sagte zu ihm: Ich weiß, dass der Messias kommt, das ist: der Gesalbte (Christus). Wenn er kommt, wird er uns alles verkünden.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.	26 Da sagte Jesus zu ihr: Ich bin es, ich, der mit dir spricht.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?	27 Inzwischen waren seine Jünger zurückgekommen. Sie wunderten sich, dass er mit einer Frau sprach, aber keiner sagte: Was willst du?, oder: Was redest du mit ihr?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,	28 Da ließ die Frau ihren Wasserkrug stehen, eilte in den Ort und sagte zu den Leuten:
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?	29 Kommt her, seht, da ist ein Mann, der mir alles gesagt hat, was ich getan habe: Ist er vielleicht der Messias?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.	30 Da liefen sie hinaus aus dem Ort und gingen zu Jesus.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.	31 Währenddessen drängten ihn seine Jünger: Rabbi, iss!
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.	32 Er aber sagte zu ihnen: Ich lebe von einer Speise, die ihr nicht kennt.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?	33 Da sagten die Jünger zueinander: Hat ihm jemand etwas zu essen gebracht?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.	34 Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Meine Speise ist es, den Willen dessen zu tun, der mich gesandt hat, und sein Werk zu Ende zu führen.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.	35 Sagt ihr nicht: Noch vier Monate dauert es bis zur Ernte? Ich aber sage euch: Blickt umher und seht, dass die Felder weiß sind, reif zur Ernte.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.	36 Schon empfängt der Schnitter seinen Lohn und sammelt Frucht für das ewige Leben, so dass sich der Sämann und der Schnitter gemeinsam freuen.
37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.	37 Denn hier hat das Sprichwort recht: Einer sät und ein anderer erntet.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.	38 Ich habe euch gesandt zu ernten, wofür ihr nicht gearbeitet habt; andere haben gearbeitet und ihr erntet die Frucht ihrer Arbeit.
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.	39 Viele Samariter aus jenem Ort kamen zum Glauben an Jesus auf das Wort der Frau hin, die bezeugt hatte: Er hat mir alles gesagt, was ich getan habe.
40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.	40 Als die Samariter zu ihm kamen, baten sie ihn, bei ihnen zu bleiben; und er blieb dort zwei Tage.
41 And many more believed because of his own word;	41 Und noch viel mehr Leute kamen zum Glauben an ihn aufgrund seiner eigenen Worte.
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.	42 Und zu der Frau sagten sie: Nicht mehr aufgrund deiner Aussage glauben wir, sondern weil wir ihn selbst gehört haben und nun wissen: Er ist wirklich der Retter der Welt.
43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.	43 Nach diesen beiden Tagen ging er von dort nach Galiläa.
44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.	44 Jesus selbst hatte nämlich bestätigt: Ein Prophet wird in seiner eigenen Heimat nicht geehrt.
45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.	45 Als er nun nach Galiläa kam, nahmen ihn die Galiläer auf, weil sie alles gesehen hatten, was er in Jerusalem während des Festes getan hatte; denn auch sie waren zum Fest gekommen.
46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.	46 Jesus kam wieder nach Kana in Galiläa, wo er das Wasser in Wein verwandelt hatte. In Kafarnaum lebte ein königlicher Beamter; dessen Sohn war krank.
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.	47 Als er hörte, dass Jesus von Judäa nach Galiläa gekommen war, suchte er ihn auf und bat ihn, herabzukommen und seinen Sohn zu heilen; denn er lag im Sterben.
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.	48 Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Wenn ihr nicht Zeichen und Wunder seht, glaubt ihr nicht.
49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.	49 Der Beamte bat ihn: Herr, komm herab, ehe mein Kind stirbt.
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.	50 Jesus erwiderte ihm: Geh, dein Sohn lebt! Der Mann glaubte dem Wort, das Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte, und machte sich auf den Weg.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.	51 Noch während er unterwegs war, kamen ihm seine Diener entgegen und sagten: Dein Junge lebt.
52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.	52 Da fragte er sie genau nach der Stunde, in der die Besserung eingetreten war. Sie antworteten: Gestern in der siebten Stunde ist das Fieber von ihm gewichen.
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.	53 Da erkannte der Vater, dass es genau zu der Stunde war, als Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte: Dein Sohn lebt. Und er wurde gläubig mit seinem ganzen Haus.
	54 So tat Jesus sein zweites Zeichen, und zwar nachdem er von Judäa nach Galiläa gekommen war.
