1 Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;	1 Voici le texte de la lettre que le prophète Jérémie envoya de Jérusalem aux Anciens qui avaient survécu et qui avaient été déportés, ainsi qu’aux prêtres, aux prophètes et à tous les gens que Nabukodonozor avait déportés de Jérusalem vers Babylone.
2 (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)	2 À ce moment-là, le roi Jékonias avait déjà quitté Jérusalem avec la reine-mère, ses serviteurs, les princes de Juda et de Jérusalem, les forgerons et les serruriers.
3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,	3 La lettre fut portée par Éléasa fils de Chafan, et Guémaryas fils de Hilkiyas, car Sédécias roi de Juda les envoyait à Babylone auprès du roi Nabukodonozor. Cette lettre disait:
4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;	4 “Voici ce que Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël, dit à l’ensemble des déportés de Jérusalem à Babylone:
5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;	5 Construisez des maisons et installez-vous. Plantez des jardins et mangez-en les fruits.
6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.	6 Mariez-vous, ayez des fils et des filles, prenez des femmes pour vos fils et donnez vos filles en mariage; qu’elles aient des fils et des filles. Multipliez-vous là-bas et ne diminuez pas.
7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.	7 Recherchez la prospérité du pays où je vous ai exilés, priez Yahvé pour lui, car votre prospérité dépend de la sienne.
8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.	8 “Car voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Ne vous laissez pas tromper par vos prophètes qui sont au milieu de vous, ou par vos magiciens; n’écoutez pas leurs songes,
9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.	9 car ce qu’ils vous annoncent de ma part n’est que mensonge: je ne les ai pas envoyés.
10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.	10 “Oui, voici ce que dit Yahvé: Lorsque vous serez restés 70 ans à Babylone, je vous visiterai et je réaliserai ma promesse de vous ramener ici.
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.	11 Car je sais bien ce que j’ai l’intention de faire pour vous: c’est la paix et non le malheur. Je veux vous donner un avenir et une espérance.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.	12 Vous vous tournerez vers moi, vous me prierez et je vous écouterai.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.	13 Vous me chercherez et vous me trouverez, car alors vous me rechercherez de tout votre cœur.
14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.	14 Aussi je me laisserai trouver par vous. Je ramènerai vos prisonniers et je vous rassemblerai de toutes les nations, de tous les lieux où je vous avais chassés - parole de Yahvé. Et je vous ramènerai en ce lieu d’où je vous ai exilés.”
15 Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;	15 29:16 “Mais voici ce que dit Yahvé à propos du roi qui est assis sur le trône de David et de tout le peuple qui habite cette ville, à propos de tous vos frères qui ne vous ont pas accompagnés en déportation.
16 Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;	16 29:17 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot: Je vais envoyer sur eux l’épée, la famine et la peste; à la fin ils seront comme des figues pourries, si pourries qu’on ne peut même plus les manger.
17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.	17 29:18 Je les poursuivrai par l’épée, la famine et la peste; je ferai d’eux un objet d’épouvante pour tous les royaumes de la terre, une honte, un objet d’étonnement, de dérision et de moquerie pour toutes les nations où je les disperserai.
18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:	18 29:19 Car ils n’ont pas écouté mes paroles - parole de Yahvé. Sans me lasser je leur avais envoyé mes serviteurs les prophètes, mais ils n’ont pas écouté - parole de Yahvé.
19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.	19 29:20 “Quant à vous, les déportés que j’ai envoyés de Jérusalem à Babylone, écoutez tous la parole de Yahvé!
20 Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:	20 29:15 “Vous dites: ‘Yahvé nous a donné des prophètes à Babylone.’
21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;	21 “Mais voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël, au sujet d’Ahab fils de Kolaya, et de Sidkiyas fils de Maaséyas: ‘Ils vous disent en mon nom des mensonges! C’est pourquoi je vais les livrer entre les mains de Nabukodonozor roi de Babylone, qui les fera mourir sous vos yeux.’
22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;	22 “Les déportés de Judée qui sont à Babylone ne l’oublieront pas, et on répétera parmi vous: “Que Yahvé te traite comme Sidkiyas et Ahab que le roi de Babylone a fait rôtir au feu.”
23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.	23 C’est qu’ils ont accompli une chose ignoble en Israël: ils ont commis l’adultère avec la femme de leur prochain, et ils ont parlé faussement en mon nom alors que je ne leur avais rien commandé. Oui, je le sais et j’en suis le témoin - parole de Yahvé.
24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,	24 “Tu diras à Chémayas de Nahlam
25 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,	25 de la part de Yahvé Sabaot Dieu d’Israël: “Tu as envoyé en ton nom des lettres à tout le peuple de Jérusalem, au prêtre Séfanyas fils de Maaséyas, et à tous les autres prêtres. Tu disais ceci:
26 The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.	26 Puisque Yahvé t’a choisi comme prêtre à la place du prêtre Yoyada pour assurer l’ordre dans la Maison de Yahvé, tu dois faire arrêter et enchaîner tout excité qui joue au prophète.
27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?	27 Alors, pourquoi n’as-tu pas corrigé Jérémie d’Anatot qui fait le prophète au milieu de vous?
28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.	28 Il vient de nous envoyer à Babylone ce message: Ce sera long, construisez des maisons, installez-vous, plantez des jardins et mangez-en les fruits.”
29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.	29 Le prêtre Séfanyas avait lu cette lettre de Chémayas au prophète Jérémie.
30 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,	30 Une parole de Yahvé fut alors adressée à Jérémie:
31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:	31 “Tu enverras ce message à tous les déportés: Voici ce que dit Yahvé à propos de Chémayas de Nahlam: Chémayas a parlé comme un prophète alors que je ne l’avais pas envoyé, et il vous a fait croire des choses qui ne sont pas vraies.
32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.	32 C’est pourquoi Yahvé déclare: Je vais faire payer Chémayas de Nahlam et sa descendance; aucun de sa famille n’habitera au milieu de ce peuple, aucun ne profitera du bonheur que je veux donner à mon peuple.”
